The OS cost a whopping $40.00. It has Start8 on it, so it's pretty nice. The best $

It seems that HP agrees that the Win8 UI is problematic. http://www.pcworld.com/article/2089403/ouch-hp-brings-windows-7-back-by-popular-demand.html Sure, MS is rumored to be perhaps thinking about maybe bringing the start button back. I wonder if this might open their eyes a bit. :)

Some of us have used Skype for gaming chat on Demigod, Evony and such. It should work fine for GalCiv3 as well. I'd assume that MP users will probably know each other to some extent and you can set up a separate group for each gaming group.

I don't understand the problem. You'll need an internet connection to download, but the FAQ clearly says you don't need it to play. That is, you'll be able to deselect it or some such thing. If you lose your machine to an asteroid strike or something, you can always hop online and download at the hospital while they're sewing in that new spleen. If you do, in fact, move to Pluto, you can be sure there's a Starbucks with free wifi there.

I grabbed the "Complete Edition" along with Endless Space Gold. I tried out Endless Space last night and it seems like a nice game. A tad slow in the beginning, but that's pretty normal for a 4x game. I should be able to waste quite a few hours on it.

Asynchronous can also be simultaneous play. In that case, it can go much faster than hotseat. Let's say there are 4 human players. All players can take their turns at the same time and the game is resolved once all players have submitted their turns. The wait time would be significantly reduced. It would be a better way of playing IMO, especially if there was a "drop dead" timer that would resolve the turn after a set amount of time with the AI taking over

I don't care for hotseat mode, but I'd probably play a few asynchronous multiplayer games before reverting to single player mode. To me, the multiplayer part is just a side item that won't have staying power. Single player mode should be good for a long time though.

I wouldn't go as far as Jafo, but pit bulls and kids are a bad mix. Kids > dogs, so the dog would have to go. There's too much evidence that pits can turn on kids. Don't get me wrong. I'm not against pit bulls. We have two, but we also don't have any kids in the house. When we have company over, we put the dogs in the back yard and lock the doggie door. If the dog has snapped and growled at you and your children, it r

Windows 7 was a de-kludged Vista... the point is that what's really missing from W8/8.1 is the "windows for apps", being able to work side-by-side and the functional start menu. That is W8 + Start8 and ModernMix equivalents. You can call that W8 SP2, or W8.1 SP2, or Windows 9. The semantics are immaterial. At least I'm defining what it

Have you ever registered it with Stardock? If so, you can log on with the same email you used to register it and get the updates from them. Have you ever played a Metaverse game? If so, you can go to your endgame.sav and open it with a text editor. Manually scan for your Metaverse name and your serial number will be close by. Otherwise, you might be able to email Stardock Support and send them a saved game and they might be able to retrieve the serial number

I like her. She looks more updated and believable than Elyes. As far as her angry look goes, In GalCiv2, they'd look angry-ish if they weren't getting along with you for whatever reason. It could be the look of disdain owing to being disturbed by a less than relevant leader. If Elsys is to be disposed of because of naming issues, perhaps her updated graphics can be reborn under a different name.
