nice to hear my idea is positively reflected. about the GRG and CB: what about the dmg going something like 500/1000/1500 but also with increasing cooldown and am cost? with the highest level being somewhat closer to CB? dmg. 500 - 1000 - 1500 am 75 - 110- 150 CD 20 - 35 - 45 (rough values) even with the synergy from FF you couldn't fire it all the time due to CD and it does only do dmg to a single target.

@ aroddo: hm, yes, that was about what I expected. the private insurers to pick only those that have few conditions and thus cost little whereas the public ones get a disproportionate amount of costlier people. which would not be that bad if those costs were distributed over a wider basis or could be compensated by more 'cost-effective' customers. actually, there is a phenomenon like that in economics literature: adverse selection. you can look it up if you want, quite interesting stuff. can
no real news yet. it's by now been the topic of much discussion, but so far we know only that it deals with enhanced diplomacy and possible some non-military aspects of the game. and pirates apparently get some workover. no details though or dates or screens or names. a site has reported that the expansion will be shown at PAX, which would be early september. let's just hope they finally show us something.
pretty nice changes. I'd also have liked the high dmg, high cd grg, but it might be too powerful. I also though: should the antorak get immunity from the starbases jump destebalisation? it would accentuate its role as a fast strike and return vessel and unless it takes support craft with it (which would not benefit from this anyway), I don't think it would be too overpowered, it's not like this thing is a dmg dealer nightmare. still, the combination of relatively easy bypass and plane

That's why other countries are able to have a healthier populace while spending less money. There are so many things wrong with the inherent (and erroneous) assumptions in both these statements. My fingers being sore from trying to explain elsewhere, I'll just suggest you pursue some further
[quote who="CaptainAanderson" reply="3" id="2342142"]I was actually thinking of a suicide ship along the lines of the ones the OP mentioned, except that it would be a frigate with a small damage radius. I'd say that as long as a person works hard, a decent standard of living must be assured and that really includes comprehensive health care. I don't care how much they earn and could pay, they deserve it, period. society is not there for the strong, the intelligent. those can fend for themselves. just view it as in investment in security and internal stabilisation. content citizens are peaceful citizens. as for the 4th basic reason that <a id="ctl00__Content__RepeaterReplies_ctl16__Li
I'd say in the game you tend to have relatively few fleets and those are pretty big. maybe an occasional smaller fleetlet to protect a cluster of planets, some few times for pronged attacks, but more often than not you're better off keeping your ships together. but that forces all players to equally have main fleet, which I think just does not fit too much to a 4x game (ok, RT4X). so I though of a few sort of soft ways to put a price tag to a big fleet (other than it not being at multiple pla
can you actually put in formulae here instead of just plain numbers? I thought I'd take some ideas from an old thread and rebuild mitigation. basically just for my private mod. you know, make it scale more exponentially and not that it easily reaches its cap with relatively few ships.
now here is an intersting discussion and another one to highlight the quite fundamental cultural differences between north america and large parts of europe. from the numbers I read, the US spends about 16%* of their GDP in health care. this is far, far higher than here. France for example spends 11.0%, Germany 10.4 and GB 8.4%. I don't have the numbers for my country at hand and though it is a sizable part, it certainly isn't 16%. also the coverage is higher here as far as I know, i.

well, we heard basically the same a month ago (actually a bit more), plus the hint of a dev blog or preview or whatever going up soon. yeah. right. we saw what came of that. yes, we get a lifesign, but it's really nothing more and for such a long period this rather sparse. I'll resevre further verdict until the plans are finally revealed, maybe then a reason for secrecy will be obvious. otherwise I will certainly feel free to criticse the information policy here. of course it's their business

oh ok, I thought it couldn't hurt. so you probaly also checked whether it's a vanilla vs entrenchment mod. well, the other balancers may address capships too eventuall, so let's see what they come up with. probably not what I'd have in mind, but then I'd likely go more for flavour than for balance.

aside from the glaring, unnecessary profanity which may be intended to be funny, I have a question: what they hell does it do? I guess it's a slightly older mod that was released in another thread, where you documented your changes. so, care to include a link to that old thread? sure, I could search, but rather than every person reading this having to search, a direct link in the op is much smarter.
just a little extra in case anyone is interested. with a few balance mods developing I also played around with capships, gave them some ridiculous stats and level increases and among others, I saw that shield mitigation really does go up, and way up, quite easily. I set maximum capship mitigation to 95% (the start value) and during a battle with some ice planet militia it almost reached this level. it in fact climbed to a whopping 92% at the highest. and that was against just a handfu

B5 hands down. the epic story, the build up, the character chemistry and a bunch of cool space fights. but new bsg and ds9 are also pretty good, along with TNG and outer limits. stargate is nice, but - I hate to say it - sometimes a bit more of a mindless 'sit back and enjoy' experience than true greatness.
I can't give an answer, maybe you could endow a regular planet with a wormhole tag or sth, but it sounds like something that requires more enhanced modding, if it is even possible by non-devs. but I'd like to bring up something related ( ie I do some threadjacking) is it possible to have dedicated star to star connections (again)? in some beta, there were phase lines even between stars, so you could not jump from any star to any other, but just to some specific ones. if that were poss
