You guys that are finding the AI Thalans to be a threat, what difficulty are you playing on? It must be really high or really low, because at Tough and Painful the AI Thalans are absolutely useless. Even with embassies everywhere their influence isn't great because their morale is terrible and their population never grows. They don't have the economy to build up a military and anyone with Planetary Invasion can just walk right over them.

There's a Radeon 3870 X2 coming out soon (next week I think) that looks interesting -- two 3870 GPUs on one card. MSRP is $449 and early previews say the performance is about 25% better than an 8800 Ultra.

I hope so. My new Logitech G15 keyboard and 24" Samsung LCD will be here this morning and a new beta would be perfect for breaking them in :D
Negative creativity. I can just see the pop ups now. "Your civilization has lost 5 weeks of research due to the new fad belief that 2+2=5."
As a cutscene, it should play the scene from Family Guy where the Irish scientist invents whiskey. :D
I just wanted the TA Thalans to be good at -something-. There hasn't even been a balance patch since they were implemented. This isn't the release candidate. I mean, jeez, problems with what is the first release of a product in a beta? :O
Even with so much wrong with the Thalans, I've found them interesting enough to play them through several games. So perversely, they will probably seem
Plus, how would you have a negative War Profiteering ability? It seems like it would be something that you're either good at or you're not.
Maybe it would make more sense to implement a big hit to tourism during wartime.

I think it can be justified by saying that invading with troops, rather than sporing, will damage the terraforming infrastructure even if it doesn't destroy the factories and whatnot. Maybe we need an Extreme Environment invasion tactic that doesn't give a soldiering bonus, but instead allows a successful invasion to keep whatever level of environmental adaptation the planet had under the old regime.
Without having hybrid worlds, I don't see how you could have it accomplished 'logically'. The spore module shouldn't be a module to change ANY non toxic world into a toxic world. None the less it should make it toxic...but it should still hold any requirements as before. Ok, so the air is toxic...how did that evaporate the water? How did it lessen the gravity? How did it grow more plants (ok this can be twisted to work lol)? How did it lessen the radioactivity?

In TA, most races don't have minisoldiers anymore. I think the only time I've ever had them in TA was when I stole Ultimate Shock Troops from the Drengin. Here's an idea -- how about after using extreme invasion tactics, the ruined tiles show up with a big red X on them, and can be repaired by building some kind of improvement on them (like an extension of the terraforming techs). Kind of like the pollution/cleanup in Civ.

So what is the benefit of having a large amount of money saved up (beyond the obvious -- you have lots of money!), and how does it compare to the advantages of having less than 20k -- higher cash flow, and the use of whatever ships/improvements/projects you've spent the money on instead of saving it?

So instead of letting it slowly grind down, spend it until you get down to 20k again. Buy some warships or Galactic Achievements, or max out your espionage spending and cripple everyone with spies.

In my current game I decided to not build any colony ships at all, since it would be a long time until I could build anything worthwhile on them. Instead, I built the Hyperion Matrix on my first colony world to give me 2 worlds with a decent pop cap, then poured everything into research and rushed Planetary Invasion. I was lucky enough to have a morale bonus on Thala and with the Temporal Entertainment built there I was able to keep morale at 100% so the population grew fast enough to fill tra
I've yet to play Thalans, but I've noticed every game against them, they have a military 2x bigger than anyone else, at any given time.
I haven't seen the Thalans do anything but build embassies, and their colonies never even get close to a billion pop. If they've built a single warship since they arrived in TA I haven't seen it.

I think I'm going to try building the Hyperion Thingy on a colony next time. A 16B planet and a 14B should be more useful than a single planet with 24B.
2. Is it possible to have a switch so that you can drop into Windows temporarily and then back into the game?
You can do this already, just alt+tab or use the Windows key. I can also do it with the QuickFlip function on my mouse :D
