Don't know if this is a bug or not, but I just won a Small/Simple game via Military Conquest. I never captured a planet with attacking troops, and mostly just defended myself. Since I had Cultural victory turned off, it may have been that the game was scoring my planetary "conquests' as if they were Military takeovers
That's by design. If the Terrans have culturally absorbed all other star systems but cultural victory has been disabled the game _has_ to end in

"Today, loaded up the save game, and for some odd reason the TerrorStar now had a move of 17" Cataphasis: This is a known bug that I thought had been fixed. :)
Ironrod1: The disappearing graphics item is a known bug. The interface color change you describe means that your in-game morality changed to "good". When that happens the background music and interface change. Also different areas of the tech tree open up for research. Duglis: There are some shifts that the game doesn't properly process until the End-of-Turn button has been pressed. If one of your planets defects to another race they game doesn't really acknowledge i
Continuing my earlier list: 7. At the beginning of the game, just after meeting them, the Yor popped up with an offer to trade technology but their were no techs listed for trade on either side. Presumably because there weren't any techs that I had that they didn't have. 8. Whenever the espionage report, the one that comes when your level of infiltration has gone up, comes by it repeats the same sequence of popups on the very next turn. 9. Music and effects sounds dro
Andre 0: Is your desktop set to 16-bit color? If it isn't windowed mode will not work.
1. After spending enough on espionage to get "Advanced" infiltration status if you go to the stats for that empire in the diplomacy screen - Misc section - Espionage spending: the value there is 128850021 (seems to be an overflow somewhere) 2. Same area as above - if you toggle between the different race's stats there were two races where the game stated they were 5th overall and no one was in third. 3. If a ship is on top of a mini-freighter you can not click on it to take it
To take over a planet: 1. Research the tech that lets you build transports (Impulse Drive) 2. Build one or more transports 3. When you try to launch the transport it will prompt you for how many troops to load onto the transport. 4. Move the transport to the system you wish to assault. 5. Move the transport on to the system. 6. Choose the type of assault (every type other than traditional costs money) 7. Repeat until you have worn down the planetary defenders. <br
1. Start SDC 2. In the lower right corner are the words "Registration Info"...click on the words. 3. You should now see a tabbed window with blanks for all the registration info. 4. You need to enter your GalCiv serial number and all other requested info on the Drengin.net tab. Make sure the dropdown holds the correct info for the type of serial number you have (Drengin or GalCiv). 5. On the Wincustomize tab you have to enter the name and e-mail address
Attack something. There is no diplomacy screen option.
They are also rare.
Ralegh, The feature you describe, the quick access to the planetary build queues, has been around for a while. I don't remember exactly when it appeared it was either something that the bonus pack added or it came into being just before the game went "gold".
There definitely seems to be something out-of-whack with the scoring algorithm in 1.04.
Vorlin: I don't think it's an issue with starting the game in one version and then finishing it in another. I started a new game under 1.04 and for a cultural win with the AI races on normal intelligence, tiny galaxy, I got a score of 26. Previous games, under the same win conditions resulted in scores of between 300 - 500 points. Something is wrong somewhere. Cheers
Actually I can now answer you first question as well. :) I just had a chat with the developer responsible for the Metaverse and he said "there is more involved with the scoring than you know". What it boils down to is that your medal is probably valid it's just that the reasons for it are classified :D
I can't answer your second question but there is some strangeness in how the Metaverse calculates things. Your first question is answered by the fact that if you resubmit the same game the Metaverse takes the highest scoring of the versions submitted.
Two things to suggest. 1. The font used to print the serial number makes it very hard to distinguish between the numerals 1 and 7 and a lower case "L". 2. Send a message explaining the problem to
They are very, very, very rare. I've been playing the game since the first beta and I've never seen one.
Alarinn, I've been involved with this version of GalCiv since the early beta and I have _never_ seen a race start with more than a single system. Beyond that the game designed has stated that all of the major AI races start with the same resources as the human player.
Sigh.. That e-mail address should have been
The submit button does nothing when SmartException catches a crash. What does happen is that a file with a .cra extension should now be in your GalCiv directory. Either post the contents of that file here or send it along with a brief explanation to
I've had the AI use starbases for cultural and military purposes and do so very effectively. I just wish there was a way for the human player to object to such things in the diplomacy screen the way the AI players can.
I disagree. The game is very winnable on "good". It does mean that you have to tweak your strategy a bit but it's by no means a show-stopper.
Each game, at game start, has a unique identifier generated. That's how the Metaverse tells games apart. For any given game you can only get one posted score although it is my understanding that if you post the same game multiple times it will take your highest submitted score for the game in question.
Murdoch, The behavior you describe is by design. :) You can only achieve the monster survey ships in larger galaxies but even with a buff survey ship it's not invincible. If a space shark attacks the survey ship the survey ship will die. If an AI capital ship attacks it can be a real battle.
The random event that gives a race precursor ships generates a random number of a given type of ship. At one point during the beta the maximum possible number of generated ships per event was capped but it's still possible to get a fairly large number of ships out of this event.
