They do have their downside. They move very slowly, have next to no defense and are expensive.

Have you tried sending an e-mail message to [email protected] yet? It is still in beta so there will be problems, although far fewer now than there were.
It takes me a week or more to finish a game of GalCiv in a gigantic galaxy.
The only thing know about the expansion pack so far is that, amongst other things, the player will be able to add additional 'tweaks' to the starting configuration of the Terran race and disable certain win conditions.
I'm pretty sure, given the way either SDC or Drengin works, that it will be updates to individual files and one would have to have the game installed before being able to download the Bonus Pack. I'd bet that the interface won't allow a download of the extra material without having the game installed.
Let me state right off that I really _wanted_ to like this game. My impression of M003, and this is after devoting most of my free time since the 26th to playing the single-player game, is an overwhelming feeling of disappointment. The minor annoyances in the game are without number and the major ones take away a good bit of the potential fun. That said I think that many of the annoyances in the single-player game would vanish in a multi-player game with human beings o
I've been playing the game, in my free time, since the 26th and as all the minor and major annoyances added up I came to a realization. The developers really didn't seem to care about the single player experience. Many of the stupid, stupid things the game does wouldn't be issues if you were playing against a human opponent. For me that pretty much ruins the game because I have no interest in the multi-player aspect.
The tech tree also differs slightly depending what moral path you choose for your race.
While the additional eye candy was a nice addition during the RC phase I think that folks will be even more pleased by the significant updates made to the diplomatic engine.
There's no upload. Send the zipped save game directory and save file of the same name, along with an explanation to Stardock. One email is Cari's: [email protected]
Jack, That sounds like exactly the behavior I witnessed last night. I was able to terminate the GalCiv task but I had to reboot in order to fully set things right. I did snag the debug.err entry. Check the thread entitled: "5B CTD and wierdness on restart". Windows 2000, 833 MHz P3, GeForce4.
Another race built the Galactic Exhibition wonder while it was under construction on one of my planets. It stayed as the build item for that planet and I was able to continue construction on it. Once I manually selected another item to build it vanished from the list of available build items. Other one of a kind items have correctly vanished from the build lists.
Here's what caused it to crash, debug.err again. SmartException, unfortunately, doesn't work on my machine. I had pressed the turn button with the main galaxy map displayed. Debug Message: =================Player has ended Turn =================== Debug Message: =================AI Players Turn =================== Debug Message: Destroying ship Freighter 132. Orbiting: 0 Debug Message: Destroying ship USS Corvette Fortune. Orbiting: 0 Debug Message: Destro
I had a CTD for no visible reason and upon restarting GalCiv the game locked up at the main menu and displayed blank buttons where the normal start, load, etc.. buttons would be. Here is the relevant section of debug.err: Debug Message: Game Initialization completed. Debug Message: Creating cutscene window. Debug Message: Creating soundtrack handler. Debug Message: Creating movie handler. Debug Message: Create setup screens. Debug Message: Creating ope
"Cari says she fixed the resource problem" Yeah! This is one that has been around for a while but has been hard to pin down because it didn't happen all the time.
Yes. The SDC installer doesn't recognize that anything has been installed by the DGM. It has been recommended, by Stardock, that people use the DGM installer for now, at least as regards the GalCiv beta. SDC is still in beta and Stardock is still working out some kinks.
Jack, You're not the only one seeing this. I got the impression, from a comment that Brad made, that this was by design and that, perhaps, the new graphic is a placeholder for the graphics due in the released game.
I'm not sure exactly what's going on but I had my head handed to me last night by the Drengin, all races set to smart, medium galaxy size. They were before I was able to produce a single constructor to harvest the resources nearby the Drengin had snagged every single one. The other races popped up in the diplomacy screen pleading for covert assistance against the Drengin, which I provided, but the Drengin gradually wiped everyone out.
Brad, In all fairness the starbases could be looked at as orbital factories which are adding to production in that sector. It's just that due to the way the game is designed that all the production queuing is based on having a colonized planet in a star system in that sector.
Asmodean, Loading a saved game from a previous beta isn't even remotely a good idea. So many things may have changed that there's no surety that the game will even load let alone run properly. Steevodeevo, There's a longstanding bug with ships that, when leaving orbit, appear off the map causing a CTD. Obviously this kicks in a lot with planets on the edge of the map but the prison planet event is trying to span ships in the 3,6 and 9 o'clock positions around a plane
Will it appear on SDC?
Destabilize works but it's primary use is to cause the other enemy economy to tank and lower morale on their planets. If you want in-depth information on the enemy you should use the Espionage slider and not the destabilize slider.
Jack, The disjoint between what SDC thinks is needed and what DGM thinks is needed is caused by something else. My DGM install of GalCiv is on the C: drive.
Is this supposed to be an every time thing? I've played three games so far with Beta 5 and each time, early in the game, a screen has popped up proclaiming that the Arcerians have found an object of power etc...
The doors opening on the startup screen play smoothly with no stuttering of either sound or motion on my P3-833.
