Yes. Nightstar, I expect the mechanism you're seeing is a fade in set on the particle file the beam calls. Removing it would make the beam pop in and out of existence at full brightness.

There's a wiki page on ship roles. You can't just use assault, that will get you murdered. To really have a powerful fleet, you need to utilize those roles to hide high power, low defense ships behind high defense ones, optimizing your damage output without reducing your durability.

Well, I've never been able to grasp the attraction to any of that stuff, but I imagine that for anyone who'd do a rubber doll to start with, one that talked back and whatnot is either a serious detraction, or a pretty big plus, depending on how royally screwed in the head they are.

Somehow I don't think many of the women stripping through college are wasting their time getting a degree in gender studies. They'd need to be too dumb for college to start with if they could still convince themselves of the value in it while practicing it's ideological destruction by wrapping losers around their fingers and milking them of every dime they've got in our great white patriarchy...

That right there is why our paranoia isn't paranoia. I've been paranoid about Microsoft since they started requiring activation. I'm paranoid about Steam and even Stardock for the same reasons. You guys can screw me at your whim by turning off your activation servers, or simply deleting my keys. It doesn't mean you're going to, but then you wont be around forever and maybe Brad's kids are clueless assholes when they grow up, or

The lightsaber can be assumed to have not been dumped down a chute like Skywalker was, and was sitting around cloud city looking stupid together with a dismembered hand until someone found it and picked it up. It's supposedly a touchy feely artifact, so if one can feel such things, it's not a stretch to "feel" it and go find it. The alien with the big glasses is Chewie's sugar momma? Doesn't exactly look like Yoda, no reason to assume they have to be connecte

It's probably wishful thinking anyway. 90% of what used to be the workforce is now 15% and the other 75% are providing goods and services people couldn't even dream of. For all we know, all the unemployable duds who can't keep up with robots will end up playing video games for a living to teach learning AI strategy and tactics for military applications, or efficiency optimization for economic functions. The great unknown is the great unknown, our hubris can't

It's actually not much of an RTS at all. There's no real challenge and you basically just doomstack your entire armada into one fleet and watch it trade fire with the enemy doomstack. There are minor strategic considerations, zero tactical considerations beyond fleeing if a fight will be lost.

Leaving them in text actually slows down load times as well, mesh files are a pretty big time sink. This results in several seconds of graphical issues even after the game has started, as particles continue loading while the game runs. It's a very small fraction when they're in binary. [quote] Changing game files mid save game is generally a bad idea. If you change numbers like a ships' health, that usually works. Other changes might not wor

50 years ago it was all check fraud instead of cybercrime. :) Criminals will always keep up with technology, it's sort of a prerequisite of being a good thief that you can actually steal using modern technology. Otherwise you're stuck with mugging people.

For boosting the AI, you can give them AI only research by hiding the subjects off screen. There are examples of this in various mods, I have a set of balance files in SOA2 for purposes of mitigating the varying complexity in utilizing sides, which the AI isn't capable of understanding, as well as locks on alternate mechanisms for using abilities the AI can't utilize. The main problem the AI has economy wise is that the game was originally designed without

[quote]your post is from a pre/post industrialized world standpoint, not a charging unprepared at the very obvious wall of automation & blindly shouting "not my problem" because you aren't looking far enough ahead. Even if you have one of those jobs that can't be automated away, your job still depends on money from those people who would suddenly be 100% incapable of adding to the economy in any way shape

Unless the robot is indistinguishable from a pretty waitress with a cute smile, a lot of people aren't going to be happy being served by a robot. You can already see the backlash in communication with support over the phone. People get pissed off talking to the damned machines, not using the infernal things is actually advertised as a bonus for various companies. The day machines take over operation of restaurants is the day I never eat out again.
