Everytime I see it sitting there on the shelf at Frys, I think to myself, "Do I really need another 4x strat game"... I mean... it was only mid last year that I first introduced myself to the genre. GalCiv II was my first... and will be my only 4x game un GalCiv III comes out... Seriously, can a 4x game get any better than GalCiv II? :)
NeuralTech
no idea why my post is read, and why "me" changed to Neural Tech - trust me, I didn't speak of myself in the 3rd person :p
I'm of the same mind that in order to patch ANY PC software... it should be a simple clickable .exe. Stardock worked w/me in the past so that I could still update w/out internet... they're a top notch company. SD needed 'something' for copy protection and this was their only way of implementing it w/out truely hindering their customer base - I think it was the wiset decision they could have made. That, or simply do NO copy protection at all, make the patches/updates do
Late March? Early April?Mid April at the earliest, I think
Thks for the reply, Chr*s :)
Every little amount of income matters in the long run... believe that!"Crappy" little worlds also can offer fresh troops to re-fill surviving transports and serve as distracting targets for the known general AI weakness re targeting and taking major planets.
Thk u sir! This is also true. :)
It surprises me how many people I read don't want anything to do w/weaker planets. Yeah, it takes a while to tech to be able to use unhabitable planets, but every planet counts imo. Every little amount of income matters in the long run... believe that! Chr*s
Ok.... wow!! So 'that's what's going on.... I really can't thank you enough for spending the time to explain that in depth for me. That's gotta be what's going on. My 'Yor Collective Hive.xml' race which works fine must have saved ok originally. I will definitely attempt to utilize what you've told me to do and I'll return w/feedback. "My point here is that, most of us are getting good results by sticking with default values and stock races as they are i
I appreciate you piping in, GGtheMad. This situation is really weird. I have 'one' of my custom races from my old computer that works just fine (for whatever reason). They are called 'Yor Collective Hive'. If I simply try to open up ANY of the other races by opening the .xml in notepad/etc.... change a couple parameters, and rename the file to ANYTHING, it doesn't matter... when I try to pick that modified .xml race in the game, the Avatar/Pic doesn't show up
yes sir 1.5 on both It really doesn't make sense, because the same .xml files on my old comp have zero issues when I try to load them up when 'making a game/picking the races that are gonna be in the game'. On my old comp: I screwed up my vanilla 'stock race .xmls' because when I opened say: the drengin.xml - all I did was change parameters and then save as drengin.xml... which was pretty dumb because I essentially erased the 'stock' .xml file by overwriting it w/
I am soooo ready for this EXP I can taste it.... When is this coming out, guys? Late March? Early April? still on DA 1.5 here
C'mon guys :d I need assistance pleeeeease.
Thks for any help, Chr*s :)
Good morning fellow Generals of the Galaxy, I recently built a new machine - and simply copied my custom race .xml files from my old comupter 'my documents folder/etc' to the new install on a different machine. Now, for whatever reason: I can't get my custom .xml races to load - I forget what the error message is, but when I try to double click them (to load them/etc), I get an error message that keeps me from being able to do so. They're the same .xml files that the g
? I don't even remember where I was when I made the post... thought I was in 'General' or something.... :)
I just woke up and realized!! Thank you~ Oh and I think new users don't know they have to use Stardock Central to Update the Game
WHY I have NO internet and there is NO mention of this on the box. Why aren't the "patch" files simply uploaded to a server for easy dl like most games? I walked into Frys and bought the box for $35. I do NOT have internet at home, and don't care to mess with it. I bought the game as a single player
Juuuust bought it last Friday.... anyone else getting on w/this new badboy on the block? I'm astonished at the content available, the look, the feel, and overall, the presentation. I purchased the box at Fry's for 35 dollars. I could NOT believe it! First time in history I've seen a game come out and be available at 'that' kind of price.. and to top it all off, NO crazy copy protection scheme. Just an honest company, making honest (BADASS/SOLID) software, at a beyond rea
I'm still on 1.5. ;p come out already TA!!!!
RTFM? How about "read my f------ post"! I mentioned I'd played this and previous iterations of GalCiv for years and am well aware that random events can occur. But I have never before experienced a game-ending random event, and am puzzled at the purpose of such an incident. Reloading at an ealier point to hopefully avoid the cataclysm begs the question of why such an occurrence is in the game at all. It certainly didn't add to the fun or challenge of the game; it just ended it. May as wel
Has Stardock come to the point to where they can't sell a piece of software in a box... in a store.... with a CD key in the box.... Like I said, you can order a disc and merrily install and play from that without internet. Getting a game to retail is neither simple nor cheap, so for smaller releases like the GC2 expansion packs we've opted to forgo it for the most part. It allows us to work on our own schedule (no street date and marketing
You can get a disc mailed though if you're not able to download. Did you not read that bit before the rant NeuralTech? I can understand that it might be annoying if your one of the tiny percentage of gamers who still don't have internet access. But you can still order it on disk, they just aren't publishing in the shops because it keeps costs down and allows them to self-publish without going to a big corporate entity like EA. This is a good thing
TA will only be available direct from Stardock for the forseeable future. You can get a disc mailed though if you're not able to download.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat :SURPRISED: Is this a sick joke? What... is Stardock going to turn to using Steam or some other rediculous copy protection scheme? Has Stardock come to the point to where they can't sell a piece of software in a box... in a store.... with a CD key in the box.... NOT REQUIRING user t
Cool thread :) Over the last month, I've been tinkering away at those .xml files for the races - dicking around w/this and that. At first ;p , I simply made a customized Yor race to the point of rediculousness (they were ungodly, 500% bonus to Economy for example) just for fun AND to figure out the last couple 'question/thingies' I needed to figure out. Now, I have the game completely figured out: the customized Yor race I play w/is very strong.. and my opponents have
I've experienced my own issues - and it was LONG before putting the same amount of stuff you're trying to put on your ship. The bug I've encountered is where I'll place something on a hardpoint... and it simply doesn't look like the item got placed - yet the item takes up space = pretty frustrating. I'm on DA 1.5, so I've simply put it down to being an old bug that probably got fixed in an update. No idea what version you're on, but maybe you wanna look at upgrading?
Hello, This message is not intended to in any way discredit your 'cpu/graphics/memory related issues'.... am simply relaying my performance on a WAY less powerful machine. I have an old lil 3200 AMD... just one of 'em ;) w/a 6800 GTS maxed out pipelines (secret 4 unlocked/etc) and I'm playing in a gigantic right now with all but 2 of the available race slots filled up. Late game: it's running fine, but on some turns: it does take close to 20-30 seconds... you jus
I still do NOT understand why each race onlY gets 1 research treaty and 1 economic treaty to trade with.... it should be unlimited or it should be a limit of 10 - to mirror the 10% given each time you share this 'treaty'. I hope this changed in TA.... it's SO silly to me that I can only use my research treaty once and my economic treaty once - kinda stupid actually.
