Well, the numbers give it a shot, I'll go test this out online next time I see a LRM spammer and report back.

You can't just defend against a fleet with defense structures. The game isn't really made to let a planet have as much capability to take out an opposing fleet as you would be able to warp in. Defense structures are support.
Heh, I remember talking about this with Swiss Knight regarding DoV - he wanted me to implement this very idea! Unfortunately while you can base more than one research thing off a prerequisite, there's no way to "lock out" other researches except for making it so prohibitively expensive that you'd only want to go down one path. I do think it'd give a lot of depth to the game and provide a lot of variety within the same 3 race framework that already exists. Will it happen? Probably not, b
I'd agree on all points, but I'm too busy rushing this guy's capital ship fleet with scouts. Someone on the forum says it's the best counter!
Working on a mod that encompasses most of these changes.

http://rapidshare.com/files/100119774/balance.rar.htmlI made a mod with all these changes
;_;
Just ask around in the ICO lobby or make your own, someone will join.
Most of this is tackled in the manual but: Copy the PlayerX.entity file of your choice and you'll get another race based on that one. You can sort by Modified in Windows to figure out what was changed, or use something like WinMerge.
ahahahahahahahaha dude, you were sane back in MBII, but not here. scouts are crap.
Working on a mod that encompasses most of these changes.
Also, waiting on the fix to allow more pages to the factories, more than 5 capital ship slots, and more than 4 abilities. It would also help if you defined the list of ships to be built in each factory in its .entity file rather than tying the EntityType to the type of factory in the PlayerX.entity file, that way we could add more factories rather than relying on the limit of two types we have now.
Someone in the modding forum is thinking about removing all the fancy effect particles, if they ever release that you might give it a try. On a 8800GS, though, you shouldn't be having too much problems.
1- Graphics. I am by no means a graphics whore.
Like some mentioned, you may have them set to lower than normal. Try checking both Video and Effects.
2- Over complicated UI. This could very much be from me not playing it more than the 4 or 5 hours
Are you using the bar on the left or not? So you can use // for comments in data files? or is that just here for the sake of readability and to offset your commentary from the game files?
Again, this whole "elite" thing is a red herring that rationalizes not making multiplayer changes. There is no difference between a "elite" and "casual" player online when it comes to the issues plaguing MP. I've seen plenty of newbies that have quit in disgust after an ally of mine starts slamming their mixed fleets with LRM spam, and there are ways to use siege frigates effectively that aren't "elitist".
Advent can easily counter with defense vessels
Try matching defense vessels to a LRM fleet 1:1. You will get your ass kicked.
Vasari can counter with Assailants of their own
Again, they have the same damage type. That's not a counter, it's just "produce more! lols!"
Malice/Brilliance kills all of them instantly and...
No, they don't.
Nanites kills all of them in a few seconds as well.<b
I don't differentiate between "casual" or "competitive" when discussing serious balance problems and I think it's a red herring here. The fact is, it doesn't matter if you're casual or competitive when someone throws 50 LRM frigates at you 15 minutes into a game. It doesn't matter if you're casual or competitive if the black market completely nerfs your faction. It doesn't matter if you're casual or competitive if siege frigates are nerfed to the point of being useles
Obviously those concerns aren't echoed by Ironclad, or Blair and Craig wouldn't have discussed the LRM spam as being so detrimental to the game on that internet radio thing.
The feasibility of large stationary defenses in space such as ones proposed on moons would not work as expected. While they may sound neat having the capacity to be bristling with weaponry and other defenses, any sufficiently technically advanced group would be able to dispatch them without any losses.Mobile ships could stay light-minutes away, far out of the base's weapons range and pummel the target with simple kinetic weaponry. Or big rocks, if you prefer that description.
<br
the sig was put in using the insert image button and linked to photobucket
Please don't do this.
actually i was referring to the Al Quaide & Co. which claim to be on a religious Jihad against the capitalisitc west.....
They are motivated for the same reasons. This "jihad" is only about "freeing Palestine" from Israel and attacking the U.S. for supporting them.
Well, I don't see it as a big deal. I don't get drops down to 10 or 5 fps in Sins at any point, esp. when I'm recording at NTSC standard 29.whateverfps and my game normally runs at 60. On a low-req game like Sins, it's really not worth the effort when we're still waiting for real modding tools, a patch to fix balance stuff, a demo, etc.

Given your sig I don't have very much faith in this anyway (when did we get sigs, anyway? I don't see anything in options), but I imagine there is no "caste" of "military" or "warlike" TEC because they hadn't had war in a hell of a long time. You're probably remembering wrong.
scouts are effective against LRM, they are cheap and have anti-light weapons. With the added bonus that you have have twices as many for the same number of fleet points.
No they aren't, they have freaking 3 damage. Stop talking about strategies you've never used.
A full pass of 15-20 fighters will kill and LRM easy
Yes, and the 50 LRMs will eat whatever you're distracting them with for breakfast, unless the guy isn't stupid and moves part
