Creationism, distilled to its basic level, is the idea that life was created by a higher power. Therefore everything from scientology to Christianity is technically creationism, however in general creationists also believe that there are limits to how much evolution a species can undergo (genetic limits, nothing about "knowing when to stop"). As for accepting that creationism shouldn't be taught in science class, I notice that you conveniently left out the following sentence in y

Jonnan, you have a premise of your own. Your premise is that the scientific community's consensus is king. Sorry, no - I do not accept that premise. If you want me to believe something, you've got to show me why you believe it. Believing something is true just because the majority says it is makes you gullible, not smart, which if you recall I have said before. The very fact that you would use that argument proves that you are one of ma

Actually, considering that Avodah/Sodaiho pretty much told Brad that he's wasted every moment of his life which he's invested in Stardock and hopes Stardock will fail, I think it's safe to say he won't be given his blog back anytime soon.
yup, shows you exactly how nuts the people of Russia are, how coyuld they even nominate him for such an honor is so far beyond my thinking it is just crazy to me.
People tend to be cooperative when you put a gun to their heads.

When Leauki says creationism is a lie, and then proceeds to talk about evolution, I think it is logical to conclude that evolution is being used as an argument against creationism. Although you're right - this assumes you're being logical. I believe the time period that the Bible was written in was about 1400 years. I never claimed Genesis was science. I said it was history. It would follow that science wouldn't try to disprove history. However, I am not

I don't like to argue that much, haha. I love that quote though, that is exactly what I meant. And Taltamir, I am a creationist. Perhaps you meant evolutionist? And there is quite a bit of evidence that the Bible is historically accurate. I, however, am not going to bother wasting my time to explain what evidence exists, because it is a waste of time, as ThinkAloud and I have both pointed out.

I actually read that book over a year ago, and interestingly enough, I also heard that the only reason the author (what's his face, Richard Kirsosaki or something like that) is rich today is because he sold so many copies of that book. Not to say I disagree with the concepts presented therein, especially the point about aspiring to nothing more than to work for someone else for the rest of your life. I'm not sure it had an effect on me though, since I'm still working through coll

Yeah, I actually went to the Creation Museum the day it opened, it was pretty cool, but some of the exhibits weren't finished (the staff was waiting for them to evolve, as one sign said, haha). And yes, I have heard of Henry Morris, and my family owns several of his books, though I myself haven't actually read any of them.
Absolutely. Well, KFC, you're on your own now. I have concluded that it is impossible for me to do any good here, because at the end of the day, people believe what they want to regardless.

Except that as the anthropogenic global warming movement gains momentum (since we're brainwashing all of the kids in school), it will cease to be voluntary. As for the 'privilege to breathe' tax, it sounds silly, but they're already talking about something similar. Soon you may be forced to pay a carbon tax for having more than one child.

This whole debate reminds me of Atlas Shrugged. It's not what I would call a great piece of literature, and Ayn Rand's objectivism isn't what I would call a sound philosophy, but it does amply demonstrate what socialism in the US would look like. I still keep thinking about how after Obama got elected, people were shown on the news talking about how they "wouldn't have to worry about their mortgages anymore" and how they "wouldn't have to worry about filling their gas tank anymor

I think it's more like an epidemic of false Christians running around ruining people's perceptions (i.e. people who think that Genesis shouldn't be taken literally). By the way, if you think evolution has nothing to do with where life came from, then you're an idiot, I don't care how much you deny it. Just because evolutionary theory doesn't say how life came about, it is no less a theory of life's origin. Sure, evolution technically doesn't work on rocks, but evo

Ah... I see what you mean now. Creationism isn't a theory of how species differentiate and adapt at all, it is one of how the universe began. How the universe operates afterward is a different debate. Creationism arose as a counter to those who claim that life came from nothing (perhaps I should say abiogenesis). Creationism is an argument against this particular position, and against the idea that microevolution may continue without stopping until it becomes macroev

Yeah, I noticed this myself awhile ago, I figured I've been active enough here to make it worthwhile to give myself an avatar. I hope it will be fixed sooner than later.
Once more, with feeling: evolution is not and never has been an 'explanation of life's origins.' Your handle is beginning to make some sense.
Then why does Leauki try to argue against creationism with it if they're not even the same type of idea? If evolution isn't about where life came from, then it can't be used as a counter-argument to a position that is about where life came from. It's l

Hey Leauki, if evolution does't make a claim as to the origin of the universe, then what does it claim? Why bring up a whole bunch of stuff about evolution in the first place? Creationism is a view of how life came to exist. If evolution isn't, then what good are evolutionary arguments in stating that creationism is a lie? You're supposed to present countering evidence, not irrelevant evidence. Therefore you must either believe that evolution is its own
I said that the theory of evolution is not about the origin of life, not that there "is no origins in Science at all". Is it too much to ask that you at least remember what I tell you? What is so difficult about understand that the theory of evolution is NOT about the origins of life? I don't understand it. Is it so difficult to remember? What if you write it on a piece of paper and stick it to your screen? Would that help? There are probably scientific theorie
