That depends were they are, if they are deep in my empire safe from the borders I tend to just min them. If they are on the borders then I do. If you reserch the starbace defence techs you can create a starbase that can take out almost anything the bad guys through at it. Or at least delay them untill reinforcments can get there.

The serial # is only needed to download updates. You dont even have to fill it in if you just want to play the retail game. If you perhaps got a mis printed serial# you can contact support@stardock and they can help you out.
Sorry there is no In game screenshot system. However there are several free ustilitry s that will do it. Fraps is one. Im sure there are more.
The in game modles have 512 textures, This is as big as we could do and still be sure that the average video card will support the game. Most of the textures in the game were done in a scaleble vector format, and can be regenerated for the game at any size. We are hopeing to do a High Res texture expantion, or patch, eventualy as higher end cards become the norm. We would like to make the default texture size 1024 at least. We have done some experaments here with 4084 textures
Later in the game as your lagistics improves, you can however create fleets of constuctors, and whe you get were your going you can build all the ships at once. Witch can be very cool.
The game will use .png for textures, it will convert them to DDS on the fly, we include the DDS becuse we can contol the compression better that way. But you dont have to include the DDS. ATI and nVidia both make free dds converters.
These are freeking cool.
One thing that I like to do, is never buy ships, unless its a emegency. But early game, while you still have the funds, defesit spend, set militray adn reserch to 100%, and each turn buy a factory, and then later Labs. Then whe your funds start to get low you will have a better infustuture to build on. And you income will be enough to keep you going even with your taxes at a resonable rate.
I just loaded up a game with the doom ray, and I seam to still have it, though the thumbnail seams to be missing. Can you check and see if this is the case for you as well.
on the bright side this should not be a problem on any future updates.
I play gigantic maps on my crappy laptop. The only problem I have is late game if I am zoomed out it takes for ever for the turns becuse I have to watch every ship in the galaxay, this can be hundreds, move. One thing I do is right before you click turn zoom back in to on of the default views. Or even zoom in on empty space. And the turns will go buy alot better. Of corse the better your system, the faster the turns will go. But there is only so much the ai can do when i
Farny, Sad to say, yes. Sorry about that, however after this build all this should not happen again. These changes should alos make it easyer for us to get the "ship design" library runing in the metavers.
I dont thing the Corel File would work to well converted to Illustrator. You are welcome to try. But I think it would mess up the transparancys. The files are realy just exampes to let you know what 3 textures are used for the game, and how I made them.
Try deleting your prefs.ini (or renaming) file from the my games\galciv2 folder. Maby some of the default settings have got messed up.
There was a file size limitation that we fixed in 1.0D-1. I think it has been fixed but if you are having problems here still we can look into it further. If you can do a few things. Take a screenshot of the design before you save it. Then save it, and send us both the .shipconfig, and .shipclass files, (From you my games, galciv2, ships folder) along with the screenshot.
We will have a way to share ship designs, pritty soon. for the moment if you send the "ship name".shipconfig and the "shipname".shipclass files from your My Games\GalCiv2\Ships folder to your friend, and you are both using the same version of the game. You should see there design. (Provided you have the techs to build it)
There is no built in Screen shot utility in the game, at the moment, but you can simply hit the print screen button on your computer. then open any bitmap editing application, such as paint, and paste it in. However there are a tune of screenshot aplications out there. do a google surch for make screenshots and you will find something.

Funny thing is I tryed playing Age of Empires III today, and i freeked out when I could not Drag. I have to say I never use the side scrolling in Gal Civ.
Cari has made it so old ships are truely deleted. That should fix this I think. The update should be out this afternoon, so try that, if it dose not work let us know. In the mean time you can name the ships in a more unique names fore each design.
Sweet!! Cant wait untill you can post ship designs on the site.
Espiange is deffenatly not useless, it deturmins how much you know about the race you are spying on. If you have advanced level, you can click on the planits and ships and see everything that there is to know about them, as if they were your own. (Ofcoruse you cant change things etc.) It also gives you better odd of stealing techs, etc...
I went ahead and posted a sample ship, and several structures that use its same textrue. And posted it over in the mods library. http://library.galciv2.com/index.aspx?m=23 Have fun
This file contains: 1) 3D Studio Max file of the hull and the extras. 2) CorelDraw File of the of the Texture, with mutable layers. 3) PSD File of the Texture (Created form the Corel File, Not everyone uses corel 4) The final texture maps, used in game, diffuse, light and Normal map. I am working on detailed tutorials on making models and textures for the game, but for now this will hopefully help people
