If you have Windows 8 and want the Start menu back, the single best way is to use Start8 . <img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="image" border="0" alt="

Eternal September refers to when the Internet became open to everyone to participate on (1993). Our communications capability has grown at an amazing rate since then. I marvel daily at all the things that are possible, just 20 years later, thanks to the Internet. At the same time, I cringe at the ugliness that the Internet has created in humans that was not previously possible. There was a study, the link escapes me, that sh
So far is to run it via Parallels on the Mac. In that setup, on a MacBook Pro with the way MacOS X Mountain Lion handles full screen it actually almost works. Now if there was only a way to make the charms bar less obnoxious.
Headline: Obama has a 3 point lead over Romney in the latest ABC/Washington post poll. As a stat nut, I like to look at the internals. So here they are: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/polls/postabcpoll_20121013.html Lots of interesting stuff in there. Especially when you get to the bottom: <a href="http://www.draginol.com/images2010/5f0e6742bc19_98C5
I watched the VP debate last night while hanging out on Twitter. I was astounded at the reaction by Obama supporters towards Biden’s behavior. Not only did they condone Biden’s open disrespect and contempt of Ryan’s positions but they applauded it. No wonder things aren’t getting done in Washington. How do you work with people who will, literally, laugh in your face, when discussing issues of national importance that you don’t agree on?
This week, the hard hitting reporters from Gawker bring you: “The CEO Who Built Himself America’s Largest House Just Threatened to Fire His Employees if Obama’s Elected” [actual headline] http://gawker
I couldn't believe how much the box was going to cost. Woha.

Multiplicity 2 was released today. You can get it here: https://www.stardock.com/products/multiplicity/ Here’s a video of it in action: What makes Multiplicity special isn’t that it’s the first program ever that can enable users to use multiple computers at once. You can get a digital switch to do that and heck, there’s freewa
Jury is out on the new maps. The satellite images are newer than what is on Bing or Google though. Siri is noticeably better than it was previously. I was able to ask “Where’s a good Pizza place around here?” and it got me a list. I asked it “Are there any new Bruce Willis movies out?” to which it found the Expendables and The Cold Light of Day and where they’re showing. I haven’t noticed anything else. I saw Passbook (the new app) but can’t tell you if it do
Anyone who has an SSD already know this. But there are still people out there who aren’t sure on this. The performance difference of putting in an SSD is greater than any single upgrade I’ve ever seen since the days back in the early 90s of going from 4M to 8M in memory on Windows NT or OS/2.

Over at MacRumors they have an article reporting on benchmarking results from PrimateLabs. The iPhone 5 comes in with a total score of 1601. The iPad 3, by contract, is 766. Mine’s on order.
Some of you may recall that I was going on an extended sabbatical after War of Magic shipped. I still remain active online but as I detailed on Freakonomics , the long hours over many years had taken their toll and I was going to diversify what I spent my days doing. What started out
http://michellemalkin.com/2012/09/14/if-its-friday-in-the-muslim-world-its-time-for-another-islamic-rage-boy-riot/ It's Friday and you know what that means, the Islamic world is rioting. They sure like fire. Perhaps it's because that's about the most advanced technology their culture is capable of producing at this point.
We’re getting some beautiful weather here in Michigan this Summer. This morning I took the dog and went around taking some pictures from around “the yard”. <img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_2086" border="0" alt="I
So the iPhone 5 is out and naturally the fans and detractors have lined up. For me, the iPhone 5 is a no-brainer upgrade. LTE. I have LTE on my iPad and it makes a huge difference when I'm traveling. If the only thing the iPhone 5 had was LTE, I'd still upgrade from my 4S to it. Of course, that's not the only thing in the iPhone 5 delivers. Here are a few of the things I care about to varying degrees: It's about 20% lighter th
The US Ambassador in Libya was killed in an attack yesterday by "Islamist gunmen” blaming America for a film they said insulted the prophet Mohammad. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/09/12/us-libya-usa-attack-idUSBRE88B0EI20120912
When looking for hobbies, I wanted to do something that got me off the computer. Not just because all my muscles had atrophied into an E.T. like husk…but mostly. I’ll update this with what the garden looks like now but here’s what I went with: <img title="IMG_1619" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-

http://www.nest.com/living-with-nest/ Anyone out there get a Nest? I was thinking of getting one for our cottage up north. It’s a “smart” thermostat that will hook up to the Internet and let you monitor and change the temperature from remote (along with a zillion other features). But I wanted to find out if anyone has this and whether they liked it or not.
