The thing that I've found 'liths very useful for are for maps with lots of stars each with small groups of planets, running in with a few akkans and support, wasting a planet, slamming down a 'lith, and systematically depopulating every inhabitable anomaly within reasonable range. Apart from that shameless ninjasiegeing and taking potshots at pirate bases for the pyrotechnics, Novaliths seem to be more bark than bite.

I once had a case where I had an asteroid, explored it fully, then a bunch of siege frigates jumped in and lanced the colony. When I recaptured it adn explored it again, I found an artifact. I know it wasn't on my homeworld or the homeworld of an enemy, but it's still pretty wierd.
If you could win any other way, the game would be called "Virtues of a Solar Empire"
Hmm, that's odd...it seemed pretty interesting. What are the battles like?
Also, I think I remember reading somewhere here that you want to avoid using the bare hulls that are attachment points only, because they don't auto-scale in the combat screen like the default hulls do. That might be another problem you're running into, if you're basing this on how things look in combat.
Hmm...I noticed that the stock huge hulls are only marginally bigger than the large ones, and that the only good way to get a truly enormous ship is to use the hardpoint-
14, and I can tell you I feel pretty immature on these forums. Regardless, it's a welcome feeling.
I second his request, the only leads I have been able to find on it were a couple of cryptically small articles on IGN and Gamestop.
Welcome home. Speaking of Mules, if you've ever read Isaac Asimov's Foundation novels, The Mule is, in fact, a complete badass who carves an interstellar empire out of a few scattered and fractured planet-states. Hmm, I think I just had the inspiration for my next custom race...

How exactly does one find/use the map editor?
This is more of a beta question than a beta report. What exactly is the deal with user-defined ship components? Will we be able to choose graphic effect, model, name, cost, etc? What kind of application will the editor be, will it be separate or part of the GalCiv 2 application?
Ascension seems to be having some problems. In my game, every single star and uninhabitable planet has the ascension crystal text.
first off.. after updating the game thru Stardock, it says I can update it again back to 0.96a(b)004 from 0.96a(b)006. If I click the update button again, the numbers switch places as to what is installed and the available update version.
I've had this problem as well.
I live in Brookline, USA, and my local gamestop had a grand total of one copy since the game came out...it's not just in australia that in store copies are somewhat rare.
What happens if you trade the trade goods to another civ on diplomacy? Do you lose it and the other civ get it?
Either of you guys play ISC scrabble? Now THAT is a time-eater.
An easy way to fix this is instead of showing "0/0/81" for defenses, why not show "(9)/(9)/81". This would say "effective armor of 9".
That's actually an excellent idea. You should post it on the suggestions page.
That has got to be the mother and uncle of all bug reports.
Perhaps the speed penalty is left over from DA, when there was one ubiquitous tech tree for all the races. Now that each race has a custom tree, the Arceans don't need the speed penalty; the penalty is manifested by the lack of engines.

However, I hope I didnt' offend the original poster. Jythier, if Urban II was more like you, I'm sure that we would never have had to worry about that crusades business...
I think we're getting the award for the post that's strayed furthest from the original topic. Hands-down.
whoops. post got cut off. continuing... Meanwhile, the Thalan are researching beam weapons and are using plasma. I smash their insectoid ships and conquer one of their planets, stealing the tech 'disruptors' from them. Now, in TA, the terrans don't get disruptors, they just go right to doom ray from phasors. But it's good to have strong beam weapons, so I bolt some disruptors onto a large hull and send 'em into the fray. Now, the disruptor ships (I called the
So anyway, I was playing an immense sized game in TA as the terrans, and I was being teamed up on by another terran faction (apparently I modded my terran faction so much that the game treated it as a differant terra) and the thalan. The other terrans and I are researching missile weapons. I'm on nightmare torpedo and they've just finished photonics. Now, most missile weapons are cool and all, but they lack punch. When the ship fires them, they go 'shwump...foomsh...KERPOW
However, the conquistadors used the same logic to determine that since the indigenous populations of the Americas weren't mentioned in the bible, they were open targets for whatever New Spain wanted to do to them. The bible has been interpreted more where if it's not in the bible, it's explicitly below anything that IS mentioned in the bible, or anything that is not condemned in the bible.
