....and once again I get to repeat myself! *sigh* 1. You don't have to be a "computer whiz" in order to host, you simply need to know how to read: [link="http://kiclan.com/monk/networking_and_sins_by_the_monk.pdf"]Networking and SINS[/link] 2. As has been pointed out many, many, many times on these forums now... Patch 1.1 will introduce new NAT-T type (NAT traversal) optional netcode so that those who can't (because they're at a

Sounds like you're experiencing an MP-desync situation (which by all accounts was fixed a patch ago). I would suggest sending your game saves (autosaves) and replays to thanks, the Monk By the way, I have noticed in my testing that IF ALL players involved in a game (not only the "host") follow the instructions in my guide "Networking and SINS" (linked to from the very bottom of the technical FAQ and my sticky-post in the "Tec

FYI People do not get "higher forum access" it is simply cosmetic that is all.. thanks, the Monk
I have made an ICO online account, but when I login, all that pops up is a friend screen. No where to join games or anything. Am I supposed to log in and then go to multiplayer, or what?
You need to click "add player" (this is NOT to add friends) this is to add your own online PERSONA! thanks, the Monk
@ liberalismwithagrenadelauncher, 1. start port and end port should both be the same (make two entries), one for one port and another for the other one. 2. Are you looking at your computer's IP address or the WAN IP address of the Netgear? If that's the IP of the Netgear, all that means is that that's the IP your router is assigned by your ISP. You'll need to go back to the first step in my guide and find the IP of your computer to enter it as the IP you're want
The corporate version of CA's E-trust AV/Pestpatrol is about as "lean and mean" as an AV program can get in my opinion. We use it on all of our workstations and servers without a hitch and the lowest resource-usage I've ever seen in an AV program. It's the first AV program my staff claims to not even notice, and that's big praise. I have been testing (in our test-lab) the MS solution (MS Forefront client/server) for several months now, and I have to say....I am suitably impressed with
I guess hanging out in the lobby waiting to help people with their hosting issues would make me really lame by Noorse's standards... ;p Seriously though, Space_Jock I've only played some 30 games (or so...since Feb 4th /08) online and most (if not all) were quite satisfying. I haven't been bitten by any "crashes" etc. yet, and although some people disconnect when it becomes obvious they're about to lose, this also hasn't been too common as my experience.<br/
Garrett, I answered your post in the other post you made on this issue. thanks, the Monk
1. Please make sure (if you had the SINS demo installed) that you have completely un-installed the DEMO before trying to install the game. 2. If that wasn't the issue. There is a "registrations" button at the upper-right in the Impulse window. thanks, the Monk
Once your CD-key (serial) is registered it is bound to the e-mail address (account) you first used. You'll have to contact if you can't remember the login info for your original account. thanks, the Monk
First of all... @ IC/SD, Great work on 1.1 and Impulse. I'm more than suitably impressed! :CONGRAT: now... (I know I'm not supposed to "stir the pot" but I just can't help myself.. ;p @ everyone bitching about Impulse I would only like to respond with regard to the statement: "I don't want to have another program installed which I won't end up using all the time" I would love to see the logs of installed s
@Razer11190 For all of the networking information required to host SINS, please download my guide "Networking and SINS" (check the file date should be Feb14th 08) which is linked-to right under the GREEN writing in the OP of [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/174313"]this thread[/link] Should you need clarification with regard to any of the steps covered within my guide, I'll be glad to help. (either PM me, or hit me up via xfire etc.) thanks, <
When you say "sure I'm running the latest version " is that in reference to my question? or kryo's?
@Grassy15, Just go to "www.impulsedriven.com", download and install stardock's new distribution system IMPULSE, register your CD-Key and download the entire game to your PC. :) the Monk
does this patch take away the home planet every time the game starts? Now when i begin a game, i dont have a home planet and all of my money starts draining.
@ nukewar, I already answered your other post in [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/174432/page/4"]this thread[/link] on the same topic with what I believe could be the issue you're experiencing. If someone has any other ideas please post them. thanks, the Monk
Since you just re-installed, I'm assuming you're running version 1.0? Please update your game to the latest game version (v1.05). You can go to to (www.impulsedriven.com) and download and install IMPULSE (Stardock's new distribution system) to download and install the latest version of SINS. There have been many enhancements and bug fixes since version 1.0 so I don't think it would be fair to ask the DEVS to troubleshoot an issue which has more than likely been fi
...Hope this helps!Edit: 9 seconds, Monk, 9 seconds!
hehe :D
If you buy the "collector's edition" (digital download + box) which is exactly what I did, then you will get one serial for updating and playing online. It is the same game, you're not getting "two copies" of SINS, just one copy on two different media. :) You can transfer downloaded patches from an internet-enabled PC to another pc so you don't need to have an internet connection to play. The DEVS have allowed us to use/install the game on two computers (wh
i did and it still does not work... i have played these maps before and all of them had homeworlds... these are my favorite maps and they dont have them now that i have put in the patch...
If those maps are "custom" maps or maps that came included with a MOD they might be using older files and therefore not compatible with the latest game-version.
Are you trying to load a save-game from a pervious game version? That will break your game (mini-dump) Are you running MOD's at startup. If certain files in an older MOD haven't been updated to match your game-version that will also break your game. thanks, the Monk
Nevermind, ignore this topic. Just found something out.
And that would be? It is always helpful for future forum users to know how one solved their issues you know. the Monk
Attempting to load save-games from older game versions, or older MOD's etc. will also break your game (mini-dump). Install fresh, play a new game (no MOD's) and everything should work just fine (providing your drivers etc. are all up-to-date). MOD's are not the responsibility of the DEVS and therefore if the game runs well from a fresh install and not attempting to use an old save-game you'll have to ask the MOD'ders to update their respective mods. thanks,<b
Update your game to version 1.05 I doubt previous versions of the game are even being supported as there have been so many enhancements/bug-fixes made.
Since the bandwidth requirement for the "sync" operation is so minimal there wouldn't be any benefit to using (for example) a T1 over a normal cable/dsl high-speed connection. The only thing I would imagine might come in handy is if the host is the one with the better CPU. That being said, everyone still must wait for the "slowest" CPU in the mix to complete each simulation cycle so I don't imagine the benefit (if any) would very noticable at all. the Monk
