so it doesn't matter at all if my brand new machine hosts or the worst machine of the bunch hosts?
This question has been answered at least a dozen times by the devs, myself and other volunteers on this forum.... :NOTSURE: SINS is P2P. The host in SINS is a "host" in name only. In SINS, each person runs the ENTIRE simulation locally on their own machine, and the "host" only SYNCS all of the player's simulations together. this of cours

Well as AMD has pointed out, you'll have to take this up with HP. Because hardware moves/changes so quickly these days notebook drivers are almost always left behind...

No you do not need the disk If it's telling you "wrong version of IronClad" then you do not have 1.05 (the latest version) please update either via Stardock/Impulse or the following link: https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/downloads.aspx login with your ID and download the latest update for your game. thanks, the Monk
I am connected through a DSL connection. My phone cord connects to a router/modem thing that spits out an ethernet cord and wireless signal. I guess it acts as a modem and a router. Is there a remedy to this?
Yes you need to perform the "port-forwarding" as described in my guide. Your dsl modem/router is stopping the traffic for the two ports required, it needs to "forward" said traffic to your PC. Go through my guide step-by-step and you shouldn't
I have the ports and the program set to be allowed through Firewall. I have attempted port forwarding and still no luck. Somebody please assist me.
Do you know if your cable/dsl might also be functioning as a router? You might have allowed the ports through your software firewall(s) to your PC, and allowed/forwarded the traffic past/through your router, but if your cabled/dsl modem is also performing NAT then the traffic isn't even getting to your rout

Sound's like as soon as the game attempts a connection (ie. login button pushed) it's waiting to be "excepted" past the firewall(s). If Norton doesn't pop-up with the allow/block dialog try entering the "exceptions" for SINS manually for Norton and the Windows Firewall. thanks, the Monk

1. Please make sure you update the game to version 1.05 2. Please make sure all of your hardware device drivers (ie. sound, video etc.) are up-to-date with the latest ones from each hardware manufacturer thanks, the Monk

I have a notebook (2GHz w/ 2GB RAM) with a radeon x300 128MB card and I haven't tried running SINS on my notebook (I use my notebooks for work/travel, and my desktops for gaming :) ) so I can't confirm whether or not SINS would run on that hardware. Sounds to me like either a driver issue (notebook video drivers are always the last to get updated by the manufacturer to the latest available from ati or nvida.....if at all), or the lack of more recent pixel shader support from the ca

The CE (collector's edition) comes with a fold-out techtree poster and a key-commands reference card. I purchased the CE on release-day back in Feb (because I like CE's and musical soundtracks) but I haven't even unfolded my techtree poster yet or used the key-commands reference even one time. You don't need it. I use the mouse for everything in SINS. I'm sure this mean's I'm going to lose to the hotkey-maniacs out there, but I don't care. :p the Monk
[....] this is the first time that I hear of a P2P network architecture for a real-time application [.....]
Not to be taken in an "offensive" manner......but you are only eighteen! hehe ;p As to the rest of your queries... Since I don't work for IC, anything I would surmise would be conjecture, however I can say that that's some level of curiousity you have there! ;) Making assumptions of course, my guess would be it's likel

@BoozeHammer, maybe lighten up on the "booze" and read some of the other posts/threads regarding this topic. :p SINS only uses a second core for texture-caching, after which the game is happily single-core. :) One thing you might try is increasing your pagefile size (google is your friend if you don't know how to do that). I've always used the age-old "rule-of-thumb" of pagefile = (at least) 2.5 X amount of installed RAM. the Monk

sirphoenix, Maybe this well help you understand... ;) Each person runs the ENTIRE simulation locally on their own PC. The HOST in SINS is really a "host" in name only, and is there to SYNC all of the players together. There is very little bandwidth required to perform this "sync-ing" so having a "dedicated" machine perform the "sync-ing" while everyone is still running the ENTIRE simulation locally is pointless. thanks, the Monk

Please follow the steps in my guide "Networking and SINS" which can be found linked-to right under the GREEN writing in the OP of [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/174313"]this thread [/link] thanks, the Monk

You may have everything set in order to be able to JOIN but if the HOSTS aren't set up correctly to be able to host, you won't be able to connect anyway. All you can do is point the people who aren't able to host, to this forum (the stickies on the topic, and/or my guide "Networking and SINS") the Monk

Hi mr. "frigin furious" :p If you truly have read all of those threads, I'm sure you already know... 1. Attempting to continue a save-game from a previous game-version will cause the game to "mini-dump" (crash). 2. Attempting to play replays from previous game-versions will also cause the game to "mini-dump" (crash). 3. Some MOD's seem to also be having an adverse affect on SINS (might be due to some MOD's still using older versions of files et

hehe.......yes I'll atest to the fact that Hack78 can in fact host games... :) Hack, I have on occasion been "disconnected" from IC Online as well. Seems to have come down to a "bad hop" between myself and IC Online on those days. Do a "tracert" between you and IC online whenever you're "disconnected". I don't have the IP for ICO with me at the moment, but if you perform a "netstat -a" once logged in to ICO you'll clearly see ICO's IP in the list of connections. <br/

@Pedro9188, It sounds to me like your Impulse needs updating, as well as your game version maybe? Try running Impulse as "administrator". (ie. right-click on Impulse "run as" etc.) @dude106 You don't need to know your "external IP". Please contact me via xfire (the1monk) and we'll get this sorted for you, or if you have TeamSpeak I'll be glad to talk you through the steps via my TS Server. thanks, the Monk
I know this might be a bit much to ask, but maybe one of Stardock's finest could write up a brief Multiplayer "How-To" for us less brilliant chaps here.
