MrMcSinister, You're not following my guide (Networking and SINS) step-by-step. From what you just posted you're cable/dsl modem is probably also doing NAT (functioning as a router) so as my guide states it doesn't matter that you're forwarding from your router because the traffic isn't even getting to your router, it's being stopped at your cable/dsl modem. Although I've helped many in your situation (talked them through the steps needed to correct a "double-NA

@Squibert2 You'll be also be happy to know that since you didn't READ BEFORE patching that your save-games prior to the patch will never again work and will always mini-dump! Saves from previous versions are NOT compatible. READ BEFORE doing something/anything. thanks, the Monk

Please read/search before posting. All of the information needed is provided in my guide "Networking and SINS" linked-to from my sticky at the top of this forum, or bottom of the "Technical FAQ". Download, read/follow all of the steps in my guide (Networking and SINS, not the other guide) and you'll both be fine to connect to each other. thanks, the Monk

Either way it sounds like you do in fact need a re-format/clean install. I would not recommend trying a "repair" because in my opinion that would only be a band-aid solution. As far as Limewire vs Video Games bringing in a virus? Hands-down Limewire. I've never heard of a Video Game bringing in a virus (and I've been a "geek" for a very long time - since before GUI OS's were around) but I've repaired a lot of family member's computers after their use of Limewire and such other p

Your cable/dsl modem may be in fact functioning as a router. Check my guide "Networking and SINS" (linked-to from the very bottom of the Technical FAQ) for more information regarding same. google how to get onto ((insert make model of your cable/dsl modem here)) and look for the things to change stated in my guide. thanks, the Monk

redwingdw28, Just so you know. Version 1.1 of SINS will incorporate an "optional" (I hope it remains optional, because I won't be using it) netcode function to enable NAT-T (NAT traversal) for SINS. This should in most cases allow SINS to "tunnel" past/through routers/firewalls and no longer require people to forward ports etc. This of course will come as welcome relief for those in apartment buildings/uni-dorms, etc. who cannot forward those ports. I however, will not b

My gaming pc's run WinXP Pro x64. I have nothing but games (including SINS) installed on those systems. Not a single piece of other software and both of them work fine for every game (incl. SINS).

Hollow Man, You are correct that "clients" don't expressly need to forward ports to join, however if NAT-filtering gets in the way (some routers allow you to configure it see this thread https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/302422/page/3 and my post REPLY #63 for an example of a router that allows NAT-filtering to be controlled) and if your router doesn't allow you to "relax" it's NAT-filtering independently, then in many cases the same sort of result can be achieved by

redwingdw28, I'll try to remain concise in my reply to your questions. :) To address your question with regard to NAT-T making systems vulnerable. In a (very small) nutshell, NAT traversal means that packets are "wrapped" in another layer so that they can "tunnel" through a NAT device. Examples of this are L2TP VPN connections. If your router for example is running a SPI (and many will know by now what I think of the "SPI" on crappy little SOHO routers..hehe) the

lokigr, 1. put two entries under port-forwarding eg. TCP start 6000 end 6000 forwarded >> your IP. Do the same for TCP 6112 2. If 6112 is already being used you can change the port SINS uses by editing that in the user.setting file (sorry I can't tell you the exact path to that file I'm not on my gaming PC right now, check the Technical FAQ for it's location) 3. UPnP is usually being used for such things as Xbox's etc. 4. You could have a multiple N
