Same could be said for Sins SP...looking at my friends list, none of the sins SP people I know have played it in months...yet, they claim to still play, so maybe they are just doing it offline...

There are 2 types of balance: balance between factions and balance between elements. Carrier caps can be OP in that they are far better than the other 4 (or 5) capital ships, and thus one could argue that is an imbalance. However, it is possible that the factions are balanced because each has equal access to an OP carrier cap. I would argue that faction balance is better in rebellion than it is in diplomacy...titans have radically changed late game fleet compositio

VL titan actually was considered to be pretty crappy near release....note I'm not saying it was crappy, but many people believed it was... Few ever picked desperation because on the surface it didn't seem like all that good of an ability...thus, you had people micro jumping around and using phase gate spawning while abusing SttC...the strategy as a whole was good, but the titan itself was seen as basically a big brick until lvl 6....it wasn't until people got bett

Let's get them replays of flak taking on high level titans late game...we'll put that right next to Grimm fighting Doci in the library...

Balance is pretty good...while some techs, ships, upgrades, etc. are not particularly useful, each faction has a pretty equal shot at winning in most situations... Compared to the end of diplomacy, I think balance is slightly better...titans, while historically the biggest problem for Rebellion's balance, were eventually balanced and their existence has changed late game fleet composition significantly...flak are no longer viable ships late game, meaning that fighter spam is quite

Well I know from experience that stripping your HW and losing your titan don't bring you defeat (when capital victory on) cause a player I was in game with did just that....I'm pretty sure they lost their cap too earlier on, but they did have an SB... So in the strictest sense, it would seem SBs work for sure, but the modifier implies its any titan, cap, or SB...
And is there any way to have a player without a capital?
There is a Vasari loyalist technology that does just this...it's a tier 5 technology in the empire tech tree called mobile rulership...as long as the player has a titan, capital ship, or starbase, they are considered to have a capital as far as the Capital Victory game mode is concerned... This may or may not be exactly what you are looking forward, but it is the closest and cleanest mechanism...

The newest expansion for Civ V, Brave New World, specifically addressed this problem...3 of the 4 victory conditions all basically became achievable around the same time, but in order for you to actually have a chance at winning you needed to be prepping for at least one of the conditions throughout the entire game...in most cases, if you were in good shape for, say, winning the science victory, you were not really in a position to win through one of the other victory conditions...fu

Well if you play ridiculously stacked games like a 5v1, odds are someone is going to have a disabler ship or two or three...if you fight less enemies (1v1 or 2v1) it's not nearly as likely that your MB will seriously be countered... I just played a game on a tiny random, me as TR vs. an AR unfair AI...I led with marza, got it up to lvl 6, and then just rolled the AI...even before lvl 6 though, I was holding my own and held half the planets -- most importantly, I had enoug

I find MB works great against AI...they aren't too smart about using disables properly, and so usually you can get away firing MB at will...only real problem is the kortul, since the AI doesn't have to "use" that interrupt... It won't work too well against HCs, at least not until you get your marza to lvl 8, but it is better than pretty much any other TEC ship for fighting the AI... I do agree that VL is the easiest race to fight the AI with....you usually

As for AI bonuses, the AI will instantly research some technologies on the higher difficulties, even if it doesn't have the labs...also, the AI can purchase additional levels for capital ships...on unfair, they can purchase +1 more, or up to level 5...obviously the biggest advantage they get is resources.... When you combine all this, the AI is able to field large fleets and replenish losses even with very few planets...because resources aren't really an issue for them, they d
