Trial versions are no good for modding, because rarely will you be finished within 30 days. There are free alternatives which can provide professional-grade results out there. 3D work: Blender - it is quite powerful for a free package, just check out the stuff people can make with it! Texturing: GIMP - as mentioned, never used it myself but people say its pretty much on par with Photoshop Sound: Audacity - free and unless you want to do some heavy-duty sound mo
yeah, I've been fiddling with all the movement settings, but there's got to be somewhere I can work on the ship's collision tendencies. They like to bunch up together and head butt each other. Unless I can add in damage for ramming the constant bumping isn't helpful
That's why I tweaked top speeds. There is also ship mass and inertia to take into account. Increasing this can make ships "slide" when turning, actually a nice ap

Roll rate as far as I was able to figure out, is the angle at which the ship tilts when turning. It has no noticeable impact on movement speeds, looks cosmetic. Angular acceleration looks like the rate at which the ship can turn. Increasing this can enable the ship to turn on a dime, decreasing it makes it take a long time to turn about. No idea about strafe acceleration, I tweaked it but didn't notice anything special.

Great to hear you guys are having fun with the mod! :) As for damage values and ship speeds, since this mini-mod is acutally just a pre-released part of the Last Stand mod, I have to keep those pretty much in the same place due to balancing work which needs to be done on the new races I'm adding. I will consider upping the overall speed of the frigate classes once I have the system running well - the current speeds are such because I found them to produce the least amount of bumping c
Because 'we all know that no plane could have taken down those towers.'
Well, its true. You may not like it, but it really is true that no jet fuel burns hot enough to weaken the support core of a skyscraper which was actually designed, being so tall and everything, to withstand a full-on impact from a Boeing 747. Hell, the cheif architect said so, I'm inclined to believe the man who actually drew the damn plans. That, and of course the fact that the building co

By the way Paladin, it was the US that actually helped create the Taliban and put them into power, by providing support in the form of training, weapons and supplies in the Afghani-Soviet war during the eighties. As for terrorists, I think that their best chance of winning is to produce really good horror flicks, thus causing massive and widespread terror throughout USA!

Socialism beats capitalism on every level except the "Rich Bastards Sucking The Life Out Of Countless Thousands" one. That level capitalism has got down to an art! I got nothing against money. I think its a stupid concept which is choking the progress of humanity, but then again I think its also a necessary concept because humanity just isn't ready for anything as radical as communal sharing of effort and property (communism as it is widely known). Hell, even I get squirmy at the thou

Yeah, that exosuit is actually a dentist's tool o' trade! ;) If you can fly between stars (I've read that the director actually said the aliens were from another galaxy(!) to boot), then you don't really need guns. By logical default, interstellar races have to be peaceful on a collective level or they don't survive. Imagine us with the kind of technology which would enable one human being to command enough energy to boil all the oceans in an instant. Imagine that power

Ok, time for another little update, this time showing new screenshots of an already mentioned unit previously known as a Spider Cruiser. The old model wasn't up to scratch with the rest of the lineup so I have made a new one which fits the setting better (and looks much better in my opinion). Vortex Cruiser Ingame description: "A Genome 3 creation, the Vortex cruiser, although unarmed, is a valuable addition to any fleet, capable of using powerful
Maybe later -- until then, Piracy (of anything) is a direct cause of unemployment in plenty of industrial sectors; from manufacturing to distributing.
I'd say Digital Distribution is the prime cause of that. People look to the net more and more for their digital shopping needs. Its easier, faster and the goods are always available. Changing times... in a few decades, maybe less, distribution of digital content will be handled exclusively through digital means. It will c
No, but we often do need them to deal with bears..... plus, the species they met might not be as helplessly primitive as we are..... no garuntee that the bad guys wouldn't be as advanced as they were, or perhaps more so.
IN which case that said species would be an enlightened and peaceful one. There is one logical argument which is consistently being ignored in modern sci-fi flicks (for obvious reason that no one wants to see peaceful aliens) - that interstellar civiliz

Once again, pirates are not a factor. If denied their free games, they will NOT buy those same games, and certainly will not buy them in quantities they're used to getting. Nothing stops someone from downloading ten games a week if they want, if they have flat-rate internet it doesn't cost them anything extra. I doubt there are many people out there who can afford buying so many games. So let's say someone invents a perfect DR protection, and elliminates piracy forever.
Although that statement was in the movie, I don't know if there was any actual science behind it or if the human powers invented it to legitimize their activities.... considering CJ's obvious initiative and technical skill, I would probably say the latter.
I merely remarked on the fact that most Prawns *were* actually quite stupid. You can see that from the way they behave, most notably with CJ's friend who, unlike his intelligent counterpart, is hard pressed to even un
Sorry bay boys, but Ironclad and countless other small studios happen to be the 'evil corporations' stocking your virtual shelves.
I would disagree. There is a marked difference between a publishing corporation like EA and a development studio like Ironclad. In fact, the only reason why I am against piracy in principle is because of the developers. Having seen on more than one occasion how publishers can totally destroy someone's idea, ruin their vision and box in their
Not to mention the fact that our sun won't go supernova. It doesn't have enough mass to do so. It will expand into a red giant, likely engulf the Earth (not garentteed, though, but even if it doesn't, the Earth will still be uninhabitable) then slowly cool and shrink into a white dwarf.
And *then*, after it exhausts its supply of heavy elements, it will go nova. Nova and supernova are simmilar in nature, only supernova makes a bigger bang and requires a more massive sta

As I understood it, most of the aliens were actually quite stupid, more like worker drones not capable of anything sophisticated. I find it funny though that interstellar voyagers like them would bring a crapload of guns onboard... such a thing is logically impossible. The weapon effects were cool, of course... its just that what could be a sobering reminder of human primitivism turns into a melange of primitivism from both sides (aliens are not much better than humans when it comes t

I can't state any definitive release date. The reason why it takes so long is because I'm commited to deliver the highest quality content possible and a most complete mod possible as well. The idea is that when you install this mod, it should feel like you have installed an official expansion. Right now I am working on integrating all the little details linked with the ships... this means calculating ships stats so that they're in line with the rest of the game, tweaking visuals, codi

That is true, however it seems awesome visuals and awesome gameplay often cancel each other out. Think about it - how bloated today's games are? It has become normal to see upwards of ten gigabytes of disk space listed in system requirements - all this pretty much goes on visuals and sound. The more you spend on making those perfect, the less room you've got to fit actual playable content. Not to mention that visuals and sound are much easier produced than quality gameplay, which requires inn
Simply blame the bastard-child pirates....and keep away from THEIR feeble 'justifications' for their actions.
Yes, lets do the easiest way and play the "idiot customer" role. After all, it is the right of large corporations to ram spiky things into rear orifices of common people. Why should that right be questioned! They're corporations. They're always right. Well yeah, we can do that, only it won't make piracy go away in the slightest, and it

Exactly. DRM has more to do with elliminating secondary market than with piracy. Pirates are just a handy excuse presented to the uninformed.
