Nope. No Korx techs. Korx aren't even in the game, so I couldn't have traded for it and forgotten. I've got a few trade techs, but nothing really impressive.
There's a defect in one of their buildings I've submitted as a bug. The "Cathedral of Valor" is supposed to give a 2% civ wide bonus to soldiering, and a 33% defense to the planet it is built on. You can build as many as you like, essentially making your soldiers invincible/planets impossible to invade. Unfortunately if you look at the XML, the 33% to defense doesn't exist and as I just confirmed today, NO Civ wide bonuses apply on buildings that are of type "Normal" (IE: They only wo
So I was looking through the Civilization Manager's Stats and Graphs screen, and I came across an entry for my empire called "Persistent Trade Routes". What exactly is that? I ask, because I'm obviously very good at it. My empire's rating in this category is... Wait for it... 296838984% !!! Yes, yes, thank you. I have ub3r skillz... Or, you know, it's a bug. ^_^
So far? Extra crunchy! Granted, I haven't played many games, but my post-patch one is by far the best yet.
When you roll your mouse wheel to zoom in, it usually zooms in on the center of the screen.Zoom to mouse means that it zooms in centered on your cursor, instead.Once you've played a game where it works this way, you'll wonder how you ever did without it.Is there a way to get this without having to install the whole 1.92?
No, but why wouldn't you want to install 1.92? It's full of crunchy goodness and is only like, 5mb. Mmm... Crunchy goodness...
Carrier ships with fighter/bomber squads come to mind
Amen! And ships carrying marines for boarding other ships. Bring back an improved version of the old planet invasion screen! Really, anything that Master of Orion II had, all those years ago, that GalCiv doesn't. That's what should be added. ^_^
umm...what is zoom to mouse?
When you roll your mouse wheel to zoom in, it usually zooms in on the center of the screen. Zoom to mouse means that it zooms in centered on your cursor, instead. Once you've played a game where it works this way, you'll wonder how you ever did without it.
When I launch the game, it still says version 1.91; is that normal?
Only if you haven't installed the new update. ^_^ It should be 1.92 Alpha.
Assuming you've already downloaded the latest "Alpha" patch, put out this morning (that's v1.92), you just go into your game options, go to the Interface tab, and check the box next to "Zoom to mouse cursor" in the first column.
And it rocks.
So what does that mean, now?In 1.92, should tech costs increase at all? Yes, they'll now increase at the rate in previous versions. Let us know how that feels...most of us are vets at this point I like getting new-player feedback.
I'll do that. I'm starting a new game (my third), today.
Cari and I changed it back last week.
So what does that mean, now? In 1.92, should tech costs increase at all? BoogieBac: I've had no trouble with crashes, after installing the patch.
Also (and I'm sorry if these were posted in any other forums) but can you jot down what settings you guys are playing at? I can see the math getting wonkey on Immense/Slow Tech games, but is occuring with other game setups?
I just sent you the two files I was talking about, and they were both set to tech speed very fast. One was a huge and the other a gigantic map, but neither were terribly far into the game.
Here's an interesting bit of information... Looking at the cost of Planetary Invasion, I get the following numbers: Start of a new game: 665 points. After 7 years, in my pre-patch game: 6165 points!! SAME game, after installing the patch: 1505 points. Still an increase of 126%, but far, far more reasonable. If that's consistent with the numbers seen if I start a brand-new, post-patch game, I think that's bearable. I'm packing those files to em
Old as in how old? I've got a couple of games that I was just playing (latest ToA version, before this patch). They're both seven years into the game, and comparing the starting and current price of Planetary Invasion, one game has seen tech prices increase to 684%, and in the other, to a holly-jolly 927%! Be happy to send them to you, if that's what you're after.
Yay for happiness and sunshine! Thanks for the "Alpha" file!
Yeah, I appologize for a further delay in the official release, but if you don't mind DL-ing a zip, I'll be uploading the patch for you guys to download when I get in the office.
I certainly don't mind a zip, and thank you! I'll be looking for it. It's not the first time I've been disappointed, you know. I'm sure I'll live. ^_^
The real question is how many players ACTUALLY find Research Inflation to be a game breaking bug? I'm not being a sm
As I understand it, tactical combat control was completely left out of this game purely because it was thought that the AI wouldn't handle it well enough to be a true challenge to a human. While I tend to disagree with that, and think that GalCiv-level combat is not nearly complex enough that a decent AI wouldn't be able to handle it, that was the idea. Now if something as major as tactical combat is going to get thrown out due to AI ineptness, I certainly think something as mi
Might I suggest the following, for setting up your first few games... Ignore the overall game difficulty. Instead, edit the individual profile of each of your AI opponents. Go to the "Personality" tab, and turn their "Natural Abilities" all the way up to the max (+50%). Then turn their "CPU Usage" up to 100%. (Or set all AIs to full CPU usage in the overall game settings.) These settings will make the AI as smart as it possibly can be. Now, to keep from gettin
Problem is also that you can't decide what ship takes damage on any given turn.
Heheh. Sadly, you kind of can. I've played nearly two games using medium-hulled vessels to support fleets of tiny ships, and not once in any battle has an enemy ever targeted a tiny ship if a medium-sized target was available. I know the AI likes to go for warp bubbles and fleet-support modules, but I honestly don't know why it's so reliable. The only time I've e
First comment: You DO get something "extra" by actually buying the game. The patches, which you wouldn't otherwise get, not only fix bugs, but include lots of nifty new features! Heck, the first one for ToA, coming up soon, has zoom-to-cursor functionality, which I'd pay for all by itself! ^_^ Second comment is about the groovy battle screen. I don't know why it defaults to showing only during fleet battles, but you CAN change this so that you get the screen every time. <b
Wow this thread is full of crazy-talk! I'm sure I'm about to add some of my own, but at least it's solidly on-topic crazy-talk. I am very, very new to the Stardock Experience(tm). I just recently bought Sins, and that led me to buying the whole GalCiv bundle. I decided to buy GalCiv, after all this time, because Sins made me long for a true 4x game, the GalCiv graphics looked much better than they used to, and I was looking forward to buying a game that had been out lo
(Can anyone imagine how good MOO3 would be if Atari had supported it like GalCiv2 has been supported? The games are very different conceptually, but I think they'd give each other a run for each other's money...)
Can anyone imagine how good MOO3 would've been if it were nothing but an absolutely straight remake of MOO2 with prettier graphics? I'd buy that game. Heck, I'd buy that exact concept every few years. Barring that, I'll settle for the exceptional coolnes
Still saying that the Terran ToA warp bubble can do wonders for "carrying a fighter fleet", of course it's not a carrier, but it's the closest thing to something similar. It requires no modding either...
That's exactly the way I've been handling it. I've got a race that uses a bunch of tiny/small ships (mechs, actually), and I just put a larger hull in the fleet that has a warp bubble and other assorted fleet-wide bonus modules, and assume that that ship acts as a command
