the second is closer,(ms OS expired previews usually NAG on an hourly basis and often demand reboots frequently), but as MS is claiming it will be released later this year this might not be such a big issue. harpo

regarding the install of programs, the default install is to the windows drive, and if you want the programs to install to a different location then you MUST use the 'custom' install. regarding steam it seems to like to install games into a subfolder underneath it's install, so install steam to the big drive and it might be good to go, BUT a steam expert might be able to answer better than this steam hater. harpo

from what I remember reading the w8.1 preview expires early next year (2014), but the release is supposed to be within the next couple of months. harpo

sounds like it was the JUNK(toolbars 'free' games 'free' utilities etc) that the manufacturers like to fill up a computer with, that was slowing the comp down. harpo

in most windows versions from xp, it is possible to get to the 'disk manager' through the management console which is a in the rightclick on the (my) computer / manage or administrator tools / disk manager in the start menu. in disk manager it is possible to format drives/change the drive letters of drives other than the boot drive(the one that windows is installed on) and a couple of other tasks that I have not tried out. hope this helps harpo

[quote who="LordDman" reply="1114" id="3399383"] Any way to specify certain planets to have certain amount of asteroid resources?? Making a map of multiple stars, 7 total for 6 player map, last star has 3 paradise like planets of Ferrous, but not 3 have the extra resources that I seen come with ferrous at times. I like all three Ferrous to have 6-8 resources ea, some only have 3-4, random though, as I get diff results every time I reload. <b

redneck, I have done similar to what you want to do(usually to replace a dying drive before it gets too sick) using a program called HDClone (have used it for this sort of task over 50 times) btw it can also create a backup image onto an external (removable)hdd so you can have both images backed up and restore the one you want to onto the drive you want to. harpo

if the comp is a laptop then windows might be set to use the external screen as the default screen while the bios/boot is using the internal, but windows also does like to switch graphic modes from the loading screen to desktop/login res, but not update the image for a short time(depending upon the system spec might be upto a couple of minutes(more ram can reduce this time in my experience)), if the comp is a desktop/tower it might have a motherboard video AND a seperate video card wi

to the best of my limited knowledge, the galaxyforge is from ironclad, and was updated with a new version for rebel that is incompatable with the trinity version (that is seperately downloadable) -... ..- -- .--. a fully multithreaded (at least four threads, perhaps 1 thread per player/ai )64 bit exe with full ram availability, and also textures and scaling specified in the entities (planets and ships especially),the galaxy files able to specify res

first, did you update the manifests in the mod? did you update the galaxyscenariodef in the mod? if the entities are not in the manifests and are not referenced by other entities then no error and no load. if the planet(s) you want to add are NOT in the galaxyscenariodef then tha maps can not use the planet(s). harpo

from what I remember it was dot net 3.5 that galaxyforge 3 needs, but I also have a memory of having to load several dot nets just to make sure that it would not have issues harpo

bonii is used as the plural of bonus instead of bonus(es). there is a mod that modifies the standard galaxyscenariodef.galaxyscenariodef of rebellion w dlc to allow maps to control the use of more of the DLC bonii. I have not tried the mod but in theory it should work and I did not create it nor was I involved in it's creation. harpo

that is either randomly controlled(standard game) OR controlled with the galaxyscenariodef.galaxyscenariodef (in a mod) and the galaxyforge(must be the same as the one in the mod) other than the very few bonii that are in the standard galaxyscenariodef. harpo

yes, I did get that issue when I tested mapversion 4 with manual editing of the file way back in time(either beta or just after release) so did not do that again and only used the entity modification method, and with the current methods of rebel you could try the fair planets if the counts are suitable. harpo

1 all ship names and the descriptions are in the english.str file(the strings file) there ARE four hardcode limits in strings, ALL to do with names, and confirmed by blair fraser, the hardcodes ARE max number of planet names =512 max number of star names = 512 max number of starbase names =512 max number of capitalship names =512 the confirmation was by email back in july/august 2009, when I was creating the sins stringer (string file edit

sounds more like an error with the galaxysenario.galaxysenario file than a bug in galaxyforge, have you tried placing particular non-coloniseable planets in those locations? harpo

some mods had six(do not know if there is a maximum limit for types of strikecraft) different strikecraft with each type ship having up to 4 (actual limit from number of slots in user interface) different strikecraft, and this was even so back in vanilla with vanilla mods, along with entrenchment and diplomacy, and it might even be possible for each ship type to have four unique strikecraft in each race on a mod, BUT you would be getting close to the ram limits and mesh limits, so might not b

if you want to stop those 'thieves' then you only need to increase the height of the 'fences' that you use around your gardens and property, but atleast you do not NEED to increase the depth of the fence as well as we do here in australia ( those bloody roos are at it again (they can clear either a 10 foot high fence or a 10 foot deep wire barricade (think like the wire barricades used in the first WW around the trenches)so we need to have 10 foot high AND 10 foot deep fences,

there was a couple of old posts about activation limits a couple of years ago (ie long before steam got the game), and from what I remember the activation counts are very high, but also check the ip address(apparently the range of address is somewhat restricted compared to the original activation ie if activated from a different country it might be refused(this is from what I remeber from reading the threads in thedistant past)) and from whqat I remember if there is issues with the ac

dark_ansem, I CAN release the source code for MY utilities, BUT the galaxy file issue stems from the game engine. -... ..- -- .--. a fully multithreaded (at least four threads, perhaps 1 thread per player/ai )64 bit exe with full ram availability, and also textures and scaling specified in the entities (planets and ships especially),the galaxy files able to specify resource asteroid types and counts, and no ice or ANY other states of h2o
