this problem happened with map designer in beta 3.0/1.14.in 1.15/entrenchment 1.0 & 1.01 the cause of the lockup has been fixed the solution for beta 3 was to remove the galaxy files from the following directories, C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy (xp) or C:\users\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy(vista/windows7). hope

do you have "home planets" for each player? the home planets are the starting locations AND the latest map version number is 3 BUT DO NOT edit into the map as it WILL crash sins on start. there is a utility under development to convert old map old maps to the new format including all quickstart info for all planets and the version number update harpo

just a note to outline my test procedures for the map updater 1. I have a copy of ancient gifts from 1.13 and the 1.15 version 2. i run the updater on a test directory containing the two maps 3 after the run I will visually compare each line in both files, if any differences I will continue to debug the program & re-test untill there is no differences. 4 I will then test on several of my own maps and try loading them into sins 1.15 & entrenchment 1.00.

the required map version has been changed to 3 because of the quickstart option altering the map format, this is the cause of the maps causing crashes in beta3 & 1.14. I am in the process of writing a utility to update the maps to version 3 properly. to find out more read the map updater thread harpo

latest update the support code for th updater is complete, the only change from beta3 is the version number, the program will refuse to run unless the sins version is correct for the translation files and it will tell you that you have the wrong version if you do. the code to finish is the update the map file code which should be the last section, but the hardest section. the more messages I have to answer the longer the project will take harpo

the converter is about 40% complete, but the only code to write is the critical code for converting the maps. all the support code has been written & tested in xp32 &64 vista 32 & 64 AND windows7 32 & 64. I hope to finish by thursday next week unless rl gets in the road againas it is today. harpo

but they insist on IE7 which is optional for xp and some people do not trust IE as it is too open to attack. personally I use firefoxchrome AND opera while reserving IE for windows updates ONLY harpo
So when we're updating our maps by hand, is it only the fast start lines that i need to add for ALL planets wormhols ect? Or are there other things to watch out for?
as of 1.14 yes, but for 1.15 i do not know yet, I will get to look at it tonight rwp harpo

I am downloading it at the moment in one of my testing machines, and I had to uninstall the entrenchment beta3 which killed the sins install again, so both the sins 1.15.047 and entrenchment 1.00.25 are downloading at the moment, and when they finish I will be analysing the map format to see what changes I need to make. hopefully it will be just a alteration in the input files rather than an alteration of code.

centrurionjixra and astax, I am working on a utility to update maps to v1.14/beta3's new map format at present it is about 40% complete. the code to write & test is the CRITICAL code that analyses the map and inserts the changes to the map format. the complete 40% is all the support code that locates all galaxy files in the playable areas AND mods, loads the old map codes file , the new map codes file and list of all ironclad maps. all completed code has been tested to work on win
