Well, Valve promised 3 surprises in 12 months (Valve Time) so maybe this is second surprise (1st was ingame store for TF2). Edit: I agree that threads title should be changed - or we will have half a dozen reposts by tomorrow :).
Its boring consolized shit and in 30 minutes I already saw at least 5 obvious cheaters (on PB "secured" servers).
I ment the sheer lack of features mostly (either bugged or missing), even betas have more stuff working (and it was an exaggeration, its actualy just beta level). Rebel: And how do you load that save game? (its lols)
You have to rename it (manualy) to autosave - which is IMO stupid , but it works.
MP is not as polished as it should be, for sure. But "worse then beta" is overblowing it. So long as you set autosave in the game options to save every turn, MP is pretty functional.
Also, its possible to manually save by using Ctrl + S.

Thing is 5 years old and only the video card (8800GT) exceeds minimum specs. However, I'm running XP so only DX9c is available to me. I wonder if they problem is more related to the DX version.
1. You do not really have control on anything that is happening in your cities, there is no way you can really adjust anything for any kind of a strategy or balance (actually you had more control in Civ:Revolutions on XBox), stuff just happens and cities grow - so the game is very heavly dependent on military ass-kicking while empire-bulding and economy are virtually non-existent. As I said - it was fine on X-Box, but that is not what I want from a PC game.<b
Did they send out email to any of their customers to at least let them know?
No, at least I didnt recieve any email from them.
I only read about what was happening when I checked the site late last night. Having looked recently today, it now says that the site will be relaunched in about 14 hours... They certainly picked a bad publicity stunt to do. I would have rathered they said something like "We're experiencing technical difficulties. Check back on us in about a week.". Meh... I can probably see myself forgiving them for this... eventually.<br

IMO its better strategy than Civ4, because of one unit per hex and limited resources.
Well this is bullsh** the freakin game keeps crashing on 1st turn. I should have waited for the demo. I'll learn one of these days.
Apply the parent/grandparent situation: If non-tech-savvy users are likely to get hijacked, then the system needs to accommodate them. Most credit cards have fraud protection (if your card is stolen or cardmember account hacked, you are not liable for any charges incurred, if you report the issue within 60 days or so). Valve's customer policies are inferior to those of the major banks? Ouch. Or consider this situation:

Another troubling policy: If your account is VAC-banned while hijacked, Valve will not remove the ban. Many stolen accounts are used for cheating and many get banned via VAC. Enjoy.
Quoting Melamine, reply 679 Other scenarios include your Steam account getting stolen, Valve deactivating your account, or Valve otherwise removing your access to the game. Should another company ever acquire Valve, they may make changes to your account per the Steam subscriber agreement, or via an updated agreement. The above scenarios are unlikely but possible, and represent flaws with the se

If no, then it doesn't have such legal obligations.
Its private company (AFAIK 100% owned by Gabe Newell) If it was public company I would already bought some stock :)
The primary reason behind 2K's decision to use Steamworks: Piracy. All other features are secondary to Steam's ability to reduce piracy. Steam is the most beloved DRM system on the market. Its fans zealously defend it, the press adores it, and while publishers would prefer to keep more control over their products, Steam is a potent DRM system that doesn't generate negative press, publishers welcome it. Other than the forfeit
Quoting Tridus, reply 651 Then there's two possibilities: 1. They think that the lost sales number will be more like 0.01%, which given the cost of integrating and testing a replacement probably wasn't worth worrying about, especially since there wasn't anything during development that did everything Steamworks does. (Reactor is very new, but Stardock could always go pitch it to them.) Given that outside of forums
Quoting coreimpulse, reply 637 It was mentioned here in other thread that Valve doesnt get a % for a steamworks game sale if the game is purchased on brick and mortar stores. I dont know if that's the case, but if it is it's some kind of boycott to Valve's bottom line. They get no money from it and they have to provide bandwidth for it. SP games should not have this online Steam DRM. It doesn't matter where
You do need to always have the Steam client running. 2K Games have already said that all Civ 5 will have Steam DRM. I prefer no additional programs that have to run just to get my games running. Best regards, Steven.
I keep Steam running 24/7 so it isnt problem for me.
Well, at least as long as the free modding lasts (and as long as people can keep their Steam collection alive, ie. no mistakes or heavy-handedness by Steam). I'm not going to be supporting Civ V at this time. Exclusive distribution through Steam is just the last straw. Best regards, Steven.
Hmm, I don't like that kind of thinking. Basically it is treating customers as receptacles of cash that must be emptied. If Elemental really takes off I think Stardock will do quite well out of it. I wonder if Civ IV would have had continual sales over such a long period if all mods were costed and you couldn't get any extensions apart from DLC? Well, we'll soon know. If Civ V goes the DLC route (w
