Oh wow, much smaller than I was expecting. For some reason I always put a Kortul around the same size as a star destroyer in my head. Thanks, GoaFan - seems you're rockin' the Q&A on Steam and StarDock forums :)

I've not been on these forums in a very long time, so I thought I'd ask: have the devs ever commented on the size of the capital ships in this game? I'm not looking for any window-size based speculation or anything, just any sort of quip from the devs. Always wondered exactly how large those Vasari ships are, able to carry all those refugees and what not.

TerribleNate: RTS titles have limited complexity due to the whole "real time" thing - unless you're a tweaker there's only so much empire management you can do while still handling combat. A turn based strategy game can offer far greater complexity in non-combat operations. RTS should be the gold standard for combat, though. Turn-based empire management and RTS combat - sexy.

Funny, I thought SOASE was supposed to be an RTS4X hybrid? When did it become just another RTS? IMO my comparison is perfectly valid. Especially since combat in SOTS is also real-time. As for Paradox in general.. yeah.. they have a crap history with launches. However, to be fair? Paradox brings a lot of what would otherwise be indie-games into the mainstream market that despite a lower budget and other-than-top-of-the-line graphics are amazing games. Let's be honest, too, if you c

I'll be honest, even with the screwed up launch, SOTS 2 looks to be a great game. Kerberos has a pretty solid history with good and frequent updates. I believe the game will be cleared up within a week or two and then made successively more B.A. all the way up to their expansion point. Furthermore, when you compare SOTS to SOASE, I hate to say it - SOASE comes up short (even just compared to SOTS1, let alone 2). SOTS is a far more complex and in-depth game, and they actually have

Impulse has always sold some games that required Steam, they were just few and far between. Speaking of Impulse... Oh. My. God. Game Stop has taken what was once the shining beacon of digital distribution and crapped messily all over it. I've pretty much switched to Steam since they took over - which is saying a lot, coming from me. Sorry Star Dock, your baby did NOT go to a good home; Game Stop is the metaphoric pedophile to Impulse. In fact, they don't even call it I

Ya know, the blue skinned fanboi up there is being abrasive and offensive. That a dev and a publishing rep have both come on and given approval to his comments by virtue of ignoring them is a sour step in customer relations that is affecting more than just those who are vocal here. It's also affecting those who are just readers, too. Potentially quite a few readers, at that, since this thread has a link on the home page. I won't lie, my opinions have been lowered, and I certai
Why announce you won't buy it and you feel there is a lack of content? Leave the forums then if you aren't interested
Because people have the right to voice dissent as well as approval. Some of those people are people who have been with the game and involved in the community for a very long time. That is a telling thing. There are other games launching later this year, or early next year, that are i

I'll be honest guys, I'm sure your mod is dope and all... But I'd really rather not have IC spend time validating your epeens by copying your mod. It'd be better if they just followed their own direction and did what they feel the game needs - being the creators/designers and all. Plus, shameless plugs make me hostile. [e digicons]:ninja:[/e]

Most games aren't sandbox, Torin, they are story-driven. For what it was, Nexus was amazing, it was also some pretty good sci-fi, My only complaint is that they lost the normal newtonian model too fast once you got... what you got... (don't want to spoiler anyone). I hope Nexus gets it's sequel! One of the most underrated games of the last 10 years, imo.

Unless you made this ability have a goodly range, pathing would destroy it. As for the shuttles flying out? Memory issues... imagine someone w/ 30 ships trying to board simultaneously in a battle that has over 125 ships on each side. You'd see a slide show. I'm all for the ability being done, I just don't think it can be done properly on this iteration of SOASE :(

I actually wasn't specifically addressing you, or anyone, Volt. It was a general statement, and I was not accusing you of lying. Calm down, bro. We've gone round and round on these forums before and never been hostile, you should know I'm not that kind of guy. -Itharus

You'll need Impulse to update the game, and even if you had a disc, you would be able to download the entire game from Impulse anyway. So, unless Game Stop and StarDock and IronClad all go under... chances are you will be able to download the game for a very, very long time. Long enough in fact where by the time the game is no longer available anywhere, you will probably have some other game that made SOASE nothing more than a pleasant memory of yore. In short: the disc is kind of
