I don't know WTF you were expecting with some kind of in depth tactical game, hardcore micromanagement tactics were deliberately removed in order to curb down on the ham fisted action pace of other more RTS game like Company of Heroes.
The micromanagement is still there, you just have the option to surrender it to an inferior AI :) Play high end Vasari if you think the micromanagement is gone :D

The game looks pretty good actually... the difference between "High" ship detail and "Highest" ship detail - is LEAPS AND BOUNDS! No joke, turn it up, and the ships look much, much better - at any resolution you set it to, at that! Keep in mind also, that the scale of battle in SoaSE can be immense... I've been in battles with over 500 ships - easily (and my computer is 4 years old and ran those battles well, and it looked pretty sweet while doing it!)... if each of those had little ro

why, why, WHY is NOBODY on these damn forums talking about multiplayer placement! It is the #1 PROBLEM with multiplayer right now and was NOT I repeat NOT fixed in 1.03! The placement is totally RANDOM regardless of the map you play on and settings you choose. Allies DO NOT necessarily start next to each other. For example in a 2v2v2 game one team might start right next to each other and the other two spread out across the solar system! This is such an easy freak

Right on, thanks Annatar11. I had been wondering about that... I see so much Stardock praise everywhere that I assumed they were the developers, lol! Do any Ironclad people post messages on these forums? I'd like to give props to the guys who made the storylines (and the game itself for that matter) and what have you :D

Does a notch on the stock of your rifle mean so much? You know you beat him. Who cares about the mark? He has to live with his cowardice. Take satisfaction in that.

Just a quick question - who developed SoaSE and who produced/published it? Did Stardock develope this game or did Ironclad? Or did they co-develope it? Just trying to end a little of my confusion :)

I thought people generally agreed it was already a bad ship (?)
It made the kessel run in less than 12 parsecs.
Babylon-5 (gameplay example!) and old-school Star Wars references by Stardock employees = this game wins by default.

To be honest... I'd suggest instead of working on a FS2 Mod for this game (which admittedly, would rock - hell, maybe the Vasari are running from the Shivans :p ), everyone should focus their efforts on lobbying the producer of the FreeSpace series to sell their rights to the franchise... Because, although Wing Commander as a series, has a special place in my heart for being the first truely awesome games of the genre (especially Privateer - that is number 2 right after FS2)... FreeSpace 2, is
In the end, the pirates hurt themselves. PC game developers will either slowly migrate to making games that cater to the people who buy PC games or they'll move to platforms where people are more inclined to buy games.
No joke. I've seen way too many games start specifically for the PC, just to wind up being delayed left and right and then announced that they will premier on the Xbox first, and on PC months later. Not to mention PC games that fizzle out and becom

My 7800 gs oc was freezing up like that... Do you hear the fan on the GPU rev up into a higher pitch when your game freezes? If so, go into Ntune, the GPU settings, take direct control of your fan, and set it to like 85% and try it out. It'll be louder... but, meh. It worked for me. If it doesn't work for you, just set it back to automatic, and good luck finding the answer :NOTSURE:

The title states the GPU I use. Yeah, it's AGP, my computer is old :-P I've found that this game has been crashing lately, for some reason that I could not discern. The only thing I could link to it was the fan noise changing pitch when the game would freeze (and once when it used up my entire pagefile and made the computer adjust it to be larger (hasn't happened again)!). I took a peek, and no, my computer/gpu/etc was not overheating. After p

I have come across negative traits on worlds... such as a penal colony on a volanic world that actually increased my costs there. What was it considered? A "natural resource", or some such? Not something I was happy to find after wasting 900 credits on exploring the place...
Flaks are great because they're cheap and they're good insurance. They're good for protecting against fighters, and good insurance if you want to go all heavy/cap. That being said they are very hard to use. I wish they had a close/guard command that would just force them to stick to your cap ship or your seige frigates like glue. My flak frigates are always wandering off when I want them to stick to my siege/caps.
Fleet your Flak Frigates to whatever it is you want them t
