o and kudos with the advent rifles shooting disks... thats so... advent
Actually it is not. The Advent make extensive use of energy weapons. The only Aliens I have ever seen shoot discs like that, out of all of the large quantities of Sci-Fi I have read, viewed, or heard of... are The Eldar, from Warhammer 40,000. The guns are known as "shuriken catapults". That aside, very nice story WitchFire!

The Advent "Halcyon Carrier" has an ability that reduces the cooldown on energy weapons (effectively increasing the DPS via a faster rate of fire). This is a beautiful thing. My question is, which Advent weapons count as "energy weapons"? To the best of my knowledge... the Advent only use a mix of laser and plasma weaponry. Both are energy technically, right? I know for a fact the cooldown buff helps the beam weapons on Capital Ships and Illuminators. I am presuming it helps t
So it's pretty much just the same thing as when Windows crashes and asks if you want to send an error support? ...well... what's in it o_O? What exactly am I sending to them? A dxdiag file would give them all the information (specs, drivers, etc) for what system I'm running... so what's included in this mini-dump file??? Paranoia is my only friend. Please calm my friend?
Don't knock it... Watch 10 Seeker Vessels 'Martyr' themselves against a high level capital ship that just got it's shields knocked down. For 2000 credits spent, you get get a nice guarantee that a vessel that cost 3,000 creds, + experience gain (or purchase!), and bucket full of resources, will die... You come out quite a bit ahead of the game for the loss of some crazy jihadis and pocket change.
I don't think the mouth will have to do anything with backstory, expect if, :gasp:, it does.
LoL. I just like to have as much information as possible... I like to make stories concerning the factions I play with, and I like them to be as detailed and personal as possible. Advent and TEC are both essentially Human in nature... even if the Advent are far flung mutant psionicists who can tap into a societal consciousness... It's still easy enough to unders
The scenario is that when I use it, making sure everything is within range... no more than four ships will ever switch to target my Radiance. I thought the ability was supposed to taunt everything nearby, not just four targets? Another thing I have noticed is that Siege Frigates seem 100% immune to it, regardless of whether there is a planet to bomb or not. But again, the damn thing seems to cap out at 4 units for me, and it doesn't bring four every time, either. ---------
What is a mini-dump? Why did I get a popup telling me one was saved? Why did this event cause SoaSE to crash? Why did the game take a mini-dump, anyway? Why would this happen while watching a recorded game? *Gives you an exasperated look and then screams in his best "Timon" voice:* "WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?!?!?!" Anyone want to fill me in??? IC/SD... if you're going to turn my computer into a fecophiliac, can you please be polite en
It's not really that crazy, when you think about it. SoaSE counts asteroid belts, plasma storms, planetoids (you know, things not quite deserving the title of planet but next to it), planets, wormholes, and huge piles of space debris as "planets" in this game. Pretty much anything that can make a decent gravity well. Our own Solar System has a goodly number of planets, isn't it like 12 or some such? I know they recently added some planets to the list that exist beyond Pluto...
Not to make generalizations, but save for a few this is one of the most whiney, ungrateful, dissatisfied group of people it's been my misfortune to encounter.
Well fought, sirrah!
Your claims lose their credibility when you sound like a hillbilly troglodyte.
Point! - Match to D-Man777! Haha, an amusing post. On a separate note, I think Styr's suggestion of giving LRM's a minimum range is one worth considering. Altho
Yes. You will however, have to remove or negate his culture spreading devices. And if you fail to sieze the planet after it rebels, he will just re-settle it later. What I'm saying is: you will still have to take some military and economic action, but yes, culture can be your most potent weapon. Sometimes you may have to place capital ships in enemy orbits, even if you do not engage with them, they help repel and spread culture. No single approach works in SoaSE, you h
I'd appreciate it Annatar11, because it keeps coming up wrong for me :NOTSURE: . I'll continue to test it. I wouldn't mind trying to make in game videos of it, but I'm ashamed to admit that I don't really know how to command the record function ;p
The problem with Illuminators is that they are geared towards combatting Support/Heavy Cruiser and even Capital ships. The Advent don't really have anything that is geared towards destroying basic Combat Frigates, and other Long Range Attack Frigates - not until Destra Crusaders. Well, you have Fighter Strikecraft... but Flak Frigates in SoaSE are imo almost too effective against Fighter Strikecraft. Some abilities used in conjunction with Flak Frigates can 100% negate Strike Cr
Animosity works fine. Be aware that ships actually have to be within a certain range for the taunt to work.
I know, I made 100% sure that the ships were within the Radius that pops up graphically when you mouse-over the ability, I also have done it with the ship adjacent to the enemy, almost touching. Hhhm, well, I'm glad it's working for you. Are you on 1.03 with no modifications at all (and no history of them on this install)? When did you last try Animosity?<b
Annatar11, I was wondering if it wasn't something changed within the A.I. in 1.03, rather than the actual script for the ability. Because nothing was said of Animosity in the patch notes, but I could see a glitch with the A.I. making ships ignore a taunt quite easily. So I did test it out. For me, Animosity is just plain not working right on any skill level... Sometimes it seems to quasi-function, but I'm leaning towards believing that it's just normal targeting priority taking effect.
The Deliverance Engine is an extremely powerful tool for Culture. You can flip worlds like pancakes with that thing! Unlike the Vasari superweapon (which is only situationally moderately powerful), the Advent and TEC Super Weapons are really quite powerful. Also, use cap ships to repel culture and advance your own. Culture is like a match of "Tug of War", you need to put some fat kids on your end. Oh, anyway, the reason I am posting is: Someone earlier in the thread, DreamMaste
*Sigh* It's really simple guys. If you have say four factories, and build 4 frigates of the same type, then each factory will prepare one frigate at the same time. All 4 frigates will pop out after the build time for one has elapsed. One frigate will come out of each factory. If you build 8 frigates, then you will have 4 pop out after the build time for one, and four more will pop out again after the build time of the second "one", ie: 8 ships in the time of two, due to four simult
Confirmed: Level 1 Animosity doesn't work right either. I tried it a number of times, to watch if it took Pirate forces off of my Disciple Vessels. Now, it did seem as though it *partially* worked. When I first used it, it quickly turned 2 ships to attack the Radiance. A pirate equivalent of a Cobalt and a Siege Frigate. They had been previously fighting the Disciple Vessels, even after being beat on by the Radiance for a short while - only when Animosity was used did
The_Monk's guide helped me understand how to port-forward (though the damn thing was called Virtual Servers on my friggin router!!!). Because of that, I can now quite happily play this game with my brother. Cease thy smack talking, foul heathen, and attend the lessons of the_Monk! LOL, just messin' with ya. This game really should be a bit more user-friendly in terms of setting up a multiplayer game. I'm not really in the know about networking, and a lot of people who play thes
Glad to see that I am not, after all, crazy :) Gonna go test level 1 and 3 now. Post in a couple hours.
I would just like to mention that the Animosity ability of the Radiance Battleship is seemingly broken right now. I tested it out at level 2 skill (I didn't pay attention until I had upgraded it to level 2), it has absolutely no affect whatsoever. Ships within the 'afflicted radius' do not move to attack the Radiance. I found this out during a single-player game. No, indeed, they did not - instead they continued to decimate my Subjugators. I know this is not how it's
The simplest answer to avoid micromanagement, is to make a large, varied Advent force (with a goodly number of anti-matter stealing Disciplies, and some Iconus Guardians), with some decent damage and shield upgrades, containing atleast one Progenitor Mothership with the Shield Regeneration ability trained, and one Radiance Battleship with Animosity. Enable all auto-cast, set agression radius to Local, and make the Progenitor your flagship. Click-to-move *only* the flagship near to the enemy, eve
Crap happens, y'know?
And that there my friends, is God's honest truth. Seriously though, update everything, run a virus scan, run scandisk, defrag your hard drive, make sure you have admin rights, reboot, and try to install. Also, sometimes your download can be corrupted, try deleting it entirely and redownloading it. If none of that works, I have no idea. You can try contacting Microsoft (the message is from the windows installer thing, right?) and fin
Actually... as far as abilities go, I see a huge connection between the Zerg and the Vasari. The Advent actually have more "Protossesque" abilities. And humans, well, they're just good old fashioned Americans. Go go pervasive economy! Number wise though, the Vasari and the Zerg are about as far apart as you can get.
Hah! I just remembered... the first time I ever did voice chat online was in a game of FreeSpace 2... I was in a little clan called "Excalibur Squadron", and our nerdy asses were off screaming shit like "Alpha squad, form up on my wing, echelon left!" into the mic and getting all into it and what not. I have to say though, it was fun actually pulling off all of those little commands, dogfighting in formations and all that. It was a pretty damn immersive little flight-sim. Heh,
The Vasari eat by inhalation. They have a complex membrane that filters and extracts nutrients from fine particles, vapours, gases.
Awesome. Ironclad, yet again - you guys win. Thank you very much Craig, I appreciate the answer, and I thank you for actually taking the time out of your likely very busy day to do so! Come to think of it, that answer could certainly explain how they know how to alter people to thrive in Volcanic worlds. They must
