I expected that it wouldn't be too widespread or it would have been reported (at least a search of these forums would have revealed something). However, I suspect the problem may be tough to reproduce. I tried several times after a failure to save and load a game and see the problem. Only the save game I posted reproduce the effect for me, and three times in a row. HOWEVER, I just tried loading it again after restarting the game....and it worked fine.</

Hi, Wondering if anyone has seen these and/or has a comment. They seem very minor things, but they gets real annoying on big map. 1 I have been noticing for some time that in most cases, not all by any means, that the rally point table has an annoying habit of requiring an extra mouse click or two in order to assign a shipyard to a starbase or a rally point. To explain this as best possible I use a new Tiny game, playing a
Hey, being stupid last year, I will have to pay for them. But...bring 'em on, more is better!
Looks great. A couple questions.... 1. In Beta 5 how many AI factions can be enabled for a given game...in your screenshot you seem to have 9, but is that the limit? 2. Will custom factions be available to fill out a MP game? 3. Oh and one more...will we ba able to import pictures for our custom faction leaders? A bit of fluff, I realize. Thanks!
and how about windows X? Inquiring minds want to know.
To clarify, THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DESCRIPTION. What it *actually* does is apply an empire-wide bonus to ship hulls.
Holy Batman! Yikes! It never occurred to me to check this possibility out. 1,000 thanks.
Good point that I am going to think about how to include ---- namely --- if you are considering additional RAM there is research to do as to what your current rig and Operating System allows (i.e, both your hardware and software). Silly me, I thought there were only "Home Premium" and "Professional" -- of course I have Windows 7. I have been resisting with every fiber of my being the idea of "upgrading" to windows 8 whatever. In fact I think I
I have submitted a ticket on this also. It does mess with your diplomacy for one thing!
LoL, I played my first MP game today and I was very pleased that I wasn't the first to be knocked out! Of course, it was a little annoying that there was one AI player in the mix....and guess who won?! Arrrrrrghh. I thinks I don't know what I am doing yet, as I got caught right away getting stuck. I managed to pull out of it over a long time only because I did have power, wate
This absence of the pop bonus for the benevolent trait has also happened to me, just as the OP reported (and this was with 72.2). Yep, I should have ticketed it. Will next time. [e digicons][/e]
Today the UP voted to prevent wars. I kept checking to see if I could make a DoW, but could not. Then the Terrans up and DoW on me!! (I was the Drengin). That's just not fair. Course, I wanted them to, but that is beside the point! There does seem to be some issue with DoW. I guess I need to try to document it when it happens, lol
1 - Starbase building is a bit tedious. I generally use rally points, which helps a lot (I mean click on shipyard, click rally point, and choose the current starbase, then queue up a few constructors) though it isn't optimal by any means. 2 My understanding at this point is that resources (elerium etc) are just for building specific items. Might change in the future. I have also seen Paul say on the livestream that asteroid mining (other than for the resources)
Adjacencies aren't useful if you can't use them. Or am I missing something?
What I gather from at this point is that with 16gb ram, you don't need as large a paging file....your need goes down as your installed ram goes up. I switched to 256 mb min and 2048 mb max (2 gb) which seemed to be a popular choice. We'll see how that works. Also, I discovered windows process explorer https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx wh
This is the first time I have seen someone question the idea of disabling virtual memory when one's computer has at least 16 gB memory. Not understanding the windows process, I would venture to say that logically why wouldn't you add a swap file in that case...just in the (perhaps extremely rare, to be sure) instance that Windows calls more more memory than 16 gB, as a falll back. I mean, if as is assumed by those who suggest turning VM off that memory past 16 gB is not go
/snip/ I also said, I realize it is beta right off that bat. I was just trying to target, what I felt like, were flaws. The more opinions the merrier! Whether we agree or not. Cheers
You needn't apologize... I think we are really at the point (and with the attitude of the Stardock devs, may alwa
Hi, I ran across a short YouTube presentation that gives some solid tips about fairly simple changes that help your computer run more smoothly. You might want to check it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpqk3qrRIrQ Good luck.
I fully expect that when the final optimization is done before launch the Ram requirements will be eased and be much more in line with their recommended specs. However, the very large maps will still work a lot better with more, so there is still every reason to upgrade if you can. My 2c as always.
I was able to play fairly well with 8gb. Judging from my CPU monitor (I use ALL CPU Meter by Intel) I was regularly using just over 6 gb while playing, suggesting you are really hammering your virtual memory. And I have a four year old Dell Studio XPS. Suggest you bump RAM up to at least 8 gb...16 gb if your system and wallet can handle it. Many people have said it helps a LOT, and I am now one of these as I noticed considerable smoothing going from 8 -> 1
Thanks! I should not have written my suggestion about virtual memory as if it was the last word, now that I think about it. I have update the original post. I am still adding a bit here and there as helpful suggestions come in and things occur to me (today see the link added on windows optimization.) So it is still a work in progress. Appreciate the positive feeback!
Many good points, many of which, as you suggest, are very likely to be overhauled as the game is polished, etc. I will just make a few comments. A general comment is that many things in the game are too easy/too cheap/OP, but that is largely because testing the game mechanisms is easier. But the points are valid, nonetheless. (2) " Why can't non-aggression pacts be broken? or any treaty really." It's a problem. If the AI can break a pa
I agree with this generally. My view: The ships should be automatically fleeted and in guard mode near the shipyard that produced them. Problem is, if you try to put them in orbit, you will likely find at least one situation in which the orbit is already full, so more complications ensue. Of course it is possible, though unlikely, that fleeting them overreaches the current logistics. Then just do as game does now when ships meet in the same hex, fleet as
Seems to be some problem with Dropbox this morning. I tried to rssubmit the picture, but it didn't work! Bleh. I will check back and see if I can get it back up. I also added some explanation to the intial text. Seem to have gotten it fixed now. I think Dropbox just got over a bit of a hump this AM.
I think one part of the answer is just to have a lot more stuff in each track, where the later bonuses tend to get better. Then there is little incentive to multi track. The problem arises because with the current build if you play an large game and because there is a strict limit to the number of AIs, with the bigger maps there are too many possibilities for building ideologies. So I think just a bit of polishing will make this a non-issue, without forcing some ad hoc r
Static defenses that are created well ahead of time generally don't help much; in Earth history, they typically fight the last war. See Maginot line. Of course the sturdy walls of Byzantium keep that city going for 1000 years, but that was in the ancient/middle ages period. Of course the Byzantines kept paying off their attackers, which was probably more important than the walls. Mobility, firepower, and flexibility are the key words. There used to
