one thing i like about paid software is that i have the right to expect support for it. if i haven't paid for something, if it's just offered for free, i really don't have any right to expect the devs to give me any help with it. of course, freeware devs often -do- help people out with things anyway. i guess mainly i disagree with the idea that there is anything grandly noble about offering freeware. yes, it's very nice of the devs to do that, -very- nice. but after all, we're just

i thought of this earlier, but hadn't put it up yet. let's aim some of this energy at a useful question. do you think either freeware or commercial software is better than the other? what are your reasons? who do you respect more, devs who give software away, or devs who charge something? why? and related: what do you do if you can't afford software?

what companies use warez postings of their software to their advantage? sorry, i'm just baffled.. how does one declare war on 'the internet?' other than, perhaps, calling out al gore... and your question was 'why would a company request that warez postings of their software be removed from a website?' .. 1- i've thought brad was a good guy since first speaking with him back on the skinzorg mb. i remember him being very classy, professional and approachable when people voiced problems with stardock. for a long time, i thought he was just 'one of the guys' at the company, and hoped he wouldn't get busted for spending too much time on internet message boards at work :] 2- although the thought and faith that there are no truly evil people is generous and comforting, it is not supported by

on the question of censorship though, this specific situation doesn't really apply. accusing people of criminal wrongdoing in public can result in a lot of unpleasantness, and isn't exactly legal. in a case like this, it's required of the responsible party to make sure legal rights aren't infringed upon. for example, a tv station, even after a disclaimer like '..their viewpoints don't necessarily express..' will still be very wary of anyone making criminal accusations on the air :]

drag the .asp file over your stuffit expander on your mac. this will expand it. then just transfer the expanded files [should be all in their own folder] to your pc.

hey chad :] i won't flame you, we go back too far for that. all i'll say is that i'm disappointed in loc's attitude about this entire issue. that stands out in my mind a lot more than bandying about epithets. he and jier obviously have a similar mind on this [and many other issues outside skinning, since they're now living under one roof.] i've talked to both of them before, many times with loc on irc, and i've interviewed jier for tek. one thing that surprises me, regardles

it's definitely not a restriction of the trial version are you using an i-feel mouse? if so, try the following: set windowBlinds to load on startup by using the option in the windowBlinds configuration window. un-check the 'start automatically' option in immersion desktop. place a shortcut to immersion desktop in the startup folder. restart windows. this will allo

ah yes.. screensavers. good show ;] kenray is right, screensavers are -highly- popular amongst the populace. many will stand firm for the cause of their favorite screensaver regardless of how it might slow or crash the rest of their system. screensavers check constantly.. -very- constantly.. to see, much like a hyperactive pet, 'has he pressed a key?! has he moved the mouse?! has he?! has he?!' thus slowing things down quite a bit. possibly the greatest selling point for the
