A spectator mode would be great as long as it were guaranteed not to cause or to contribute to lag in any sort of a way. The danger is that if you have a bad spectator, he could screw up the game by communicating information to one of the teams or players. Even if spectator-to-players chat, friend chat, and whispering were made impossible, he could still be on voice comm with one of the teams.
Surprisingly, open diplomacy (unlocked teams) works best if all players start on the same team. And you break alliances, rather than trying to form them. Be sure to set a proper team size for Allied Victory.
I had not thought of that. If everyone starts out on the same team, does that mean that everyone's relationship is 10.0 at the start?
I'd be up for it, I guess. I have positive and negative feelings about the most recent changes to the Diplomacy system. Now both parties need to send envoys (instead of just one) and it seems like it takes a long time for the relationship to build on each side. For that reason, the Diplomacy additions aren't used much in multiplayer PvP games anymore. However, for unlocked team FFA games it does make established diplomatic relations more valuable, so you're
I put in for a pre-order, so I'm in for the Beta. At least I'll load it up now and then and check it out.
Whoa! This is a Free-to-Play game! I wonder how they're going to make money off of it. How does the game play compare to SOSE? Is it like a 4x-RTS on land or a completely different type of game?
I wonder if including the word "Sins" in the name was a marketing decision to build off some of the success of SOSE.
Servalan is a great Sins name. I should keep it. "Servalan first appears as the Supreme Commander of the Terran Federation in charge of the Federation's military force. She is principally concerned with organizing efforts to destroy Blake and crush resistance to the Federation's
Dumb question, but would there be any problems with running Steaworks on Win XP Pro SP3?
How do we join this external team?
Good question. What is this external team about and who is on it that plays online multiplayer? Anyone we might know? Are these anointed external testers all sworn to secrecy?
Here are links to three replays of recent games. I played in these games as Servalan . Of course, these can only be watched on the Diplomacy (v1.34) expansion. 4v4 game Great 5-on-5 game <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/?18pw880
Some people don't like Impulse. Some people don't like Steam. I guess it's just impossible to please everyone all of the time.
I just updated and revised my map pack since the place I was hosting it at previously (Unreal Maps.net) went kaput. The new pack contains an updated version of Warring Systems which should be more playable for 5 on 5 (the v4). It also has an improved and now playable version of the 5v5 map Death~a~Whirl. It also includes a modification of the 5v5 version of Gateway to Paradise, as suggested by 1st Warfleet: Race to Paradise. You can download the auto-installer file h
Yarlen, how much CPU will Steam and Steamworks consume? Will it result in lag for multiplayer games as a result? Can the Steam and Steamwork programs be assigned to a CPU core different from the one that's running Sins?
I've been reading that the plan for Rebellion is to integrate the online multiplayer with Steamworks. I know almost nothing about Steamworks. How will it affect online multiplayer? Will it increase lag and instability? Would it be possible to run Rebellion on one CPU core and Steamworks on another core?
If you can beat the Cruel AI, then you're probably ready to advance to playing against human opponents. At this point you probably understand all of the game mechanics and have a knowledge of all the races, tech trees, ships, and counters. You'll get thumped for your first fifty games or so, but gaining experience against people is the only way to improve. What you'll discover is that the AI has a very limited strategic and tactical ability regardless of what dif
I've always thought the idea behind Magnetize Hull was that the strikecraft slam into the Dunov. So, do you cast it on friendly ships or enemy ships? Can you cast it on enemy caps?
I can see how it might make sense to target an enemy ship for Vertigo, but not for Magnetize Hull. I hope they'll fix Magnetize Hull and make it a simple one-click cast again.
How do you use the Rapture's Vertigo and the Dunov's Magnetize Hull abilities? I'm not asking about what they do or when to use them. Rather, as a practical issue of game mechanics, how do you use these abilities now? One of the recent patches changed the way you use them. In the past you would just click on the ability button and it would cast an area-of-effect spell. Now it seems like you have to cast the ability directly on an opposing ship
The TEC caps are OK and some have worthwhile abilities. The Marza Level 6 Missile Barrage is probably the most powerful capital ship ability in the game. The Sova's Embargo is also very worthwhile. The Kol has a good anti-strikecraft capability in Flak Burst. The Akkan may have the best colonization ability of the three race's motherships and the weapons range extension can be useful. The Armistice ability that makes surrounding ships invulnerable, allowi
Sadly, we don't really have enough people around to make playing mods viable, at least for games without AI. I'm guessing that the most popular mods are Distant Stars and the Star Trek mod Sacrifice of the Angels 2.
hi i need some friends too, to play online.
Why do you need friends? Why not just join games that are open to the general public? You could even start your own games with titles like "New Players Only".
It sounds like you guys need Sins "Galaxy Masters" (like D&D Dungeon Masters). "And then the ship eating gigantic Hershey bars poured out of the asteroid belt..."
So, who are all these ER people? The only ones I remember offhand are ER-Dynasty and ER-ror. Maybe they're stretching their legs for Rebellion.
I pretty much agree with Rovert. The game is fine as it is now with Quickstart. There is still strategy and decisions to be made even early on in the game, right from the get-go.
I would hate to have to run Steam in order to play Sins. Sins itself stresses my computer enough.
