Quoting Tridus, reply 44The idea that MOO got it all right is highly tinted by nostalgia tinted classes. MOO didn't get everything right. Those fights could get really tedious. Give someone who has never played it a copy of the game today, and opinions will be much less kind than people who played it when it first came out. Again, Tridus, you are coloring this with your own personal play style. You should n
Everyone groans when MOO is mentioned, but the reason it always comes up is because in so many years it is one of the few games to ever get it all right. I understand you want to make a game with deep strategic options first, but a huge opportunity is being missed. Plenty of games since have done the same and they are easily forgotten. The same people that would feel forced to micro manage things are the same people that will save and reload

You can read that sectors post two ways: 1. There's no sectors in the game anymore. 2. There's still sectors in the game, but sector lines aren't drawn on the main map because they were just visual noise. I tend towards the latter. Sectors IIRC were used for things like map size, they're likely not being thrown away entirely as a concept. Not displaying them on the main game map would just make the map easier to read.

I don't think anybody here has ever actually said that; most (including myself) old the position that it is poorly suited to this series in particular. The examples you mentioned (90's Era GalCiv, MoO, Civ) did not/do not have the same sort of strate

If you had options for different levels of combat that you could change at any time, such as: Level 0 -- Absolute auto resolve Level 1 -- Combat viewer -- like GC2. Level 2 -- Some combat control -- like the devs have described for GC3. ' ' Level x -- Ship by ship total control combat -- like MOO2. If th

You ever get the feeling that you're trapped in an endless loop of tactical combat threads? [e digicons]x_x[/e] Machiavellianism - the game is going to have some form of combat, with some kind of ship role system. It's not going to have a system where you pick ships each turn and tell them what to shoot at, but it's likely to be closer to Endless S

There's lots of little differences buried in there. It's pretty likely that it's going to work, but saying "it'll probably work" and officially supporting it aren't the same thing. Supporting it means adding a test suite for Vista, and if it breaks, figuring out how to fix it. Not supporting it means not worrying about that, and is thus cheaper. Since Vista is going to be on older hardware at this point with potentially dodgy drivers (the thing that plagued Vista t

I'd love to see cheats for things like revealing the entire map. It's much easier to talk about things like the AI behaving oddly if you can see what it's doing. Cheats to speed up the building and research would make it easier to try things out, but can hinder testing the overall game flow. Still handy for testing certain scenarios. Most of your list is pretty good, honestly. :) The code lines thing wouldn't help us, though, as we don't have code. Their debu
I'm also still under the impression that whoever wrote that answer in the FAQ forgot about Vista or the fact it has a 64bit version and DX11 support.
I doubt its that. Vista is out of mainstream support at Microsoft, is falling back to 4% on the Steam hardware survey, and is generally irrelevant. Most likely they just don't want to have the expense of supporting it.

What you mean is cheat codes and diagnostic tools. "Dev kit" has a specific meaning in game development, and this isn't it. (Admiral - a console in this case is a box to type commands in to the game, like enabling cheat codes or tools to debug the current game state. It's not a piece of hardware.)

Looking at other games in the strategy genre, the general rule is that DLC adds content to the existing game. Things like races, leaders, scenario maps, new ship parts, and such. Expansions add or change game systems. Things like espionage that change how the game plays. They also tend to contain things that could be sold as DLC. That is pretty much exactly how the divide worked in Civ V (some maps and Civs as DLC, others came in the expansions along with espionage, religion,

The thing with DLC is that on an AAA game, not all the teams are working at the same time in development. Instead of idling a team or laying people off, you can put them to work on DLC while the main team works on something else. The content in question is usually small enough that they can sell it relatively cheap, but it's got a high profit margin since it's relatively easy to make. Full expansions don't work well for a game like Call of Duty anyway, since the goal isn&#
