I have no idea why any serious company would use GFWL as their multiplayer service. I've seen what it's like to get a game going in Dawn of War 2, Street Fighter 4, and Resident Evil 5 and it's horrendous. I have a pretty fast connection, and yet I almost never see games with a maximum connection rating. I see tons of high ping games though. 'Automatch' games took a pretty long time to actually connect everyone, and inviting friends to your games seems to take multiple

No to most of your questions. I've played with AI modding in other RTS', and the core system any AI operates with is based purely on defined values. While I don't know exactly how Sins AI is done, this is generally how RTS AI works: Units/structures have various 'values' to the AI, and it bases its decisions to attack or keep building up based on its relative fleet 'value'. Smarter (ie cheating, but necessary cheating) AI will factor its enemies fleet

>That said, I've never liked the EBay bidding system. Far as I'm concerned, if two people bid super high, pirates should attack both targets, whether or not one of them bidded a little extra pocket change at the last second. No kidding. IMO, it would have worked better it the bounty remained hidden until they launched. You have no idea if your opponents are bidding or not. You could drop 2000 in bounty only to find your opponents spent noth

Hmm, interesting. I can understand they wanted to make the pirates badass again after being a joke for years, but it seems they didn't really take into consideration what happens during a really long game where the pirates get to buy 20+ upgrades over of the course of the game. The large increases in power are actually fine, as they need to remain relevent in large team game settings . However they need a more reasonable cap on the number of upgrades. 2
Darvin, a single pirate ship with 4000 hull IS NOT REASONNABLE! But if the pirates where to send 5 Corsairs with 800 hull each, then yes that is reasonnable. Pirates should only grow in NUMBERS, never in strength. There is a huge difference between fighting 5 ships with 800 hull and 26 dps and fighting a single ship with 4000 hull and 128 dps. By taking a few ship out, you also reduced the pirates DPS. Even if you damage the 4000 hull supe

Well the pirates need truckloads of hull strength since they don't have shields, and thus never get the damage reduction from mitigation. The main problem is the weapons and armour keep going up without limit too. Eventually even fully upgraded HCs are little more than canon fodder against them. It would make far more sense if they cap out at around 2x the strength of a fully upgraded human ship, and simply came with larger numbers at that point. The pirate base become

They just overlooked the need to cap the pirate upgrade system at a sane maximum. This should be priority #1 for patch 1.01.

33 Replies 72,509 Views

They really need a cap on how much they can upgrade. They shouldn't be completely outclassing a fully upgraded HC by a factor of 200-300% I understand they need to become strong enough to be a threat to a fully upgraded starbase so they don't simply feed you XP. However they shouldn't be able to take on your entire late game fleet head on and win. They're raiders/mercenaries, not the damn Antarians.

Hmm, guess I'll do download Duke Nukem 3D in 2 seconds. Maybe 3 if you want the expansion too. I can't stand looking at that site for too long though; I get nostalgabombed way too hard.

I'm surprised this hasn't been more of priority to fix. The 'no lane to first asteriod' thing is devestating, and nobody is going to colonize a two extractor ice or volcanic planet early on. Diplomacy definitely didn't fix this, as a game I played game me a two extractor planet beside my homeworld...with 6 cobalts, 3 heavies, 4 LRMs, 3 flak and 4 seige. It was a fair while into the game before I could spare the forces to take that on safely.

I might break my steam ban if it has co-op single player. It has been far too long since a great co-op FPS was released. Left4Dead isn't quite the same as what I'm looking for in co-op; I want a storyline, missions, and that feeling of dread knowing that Alien/Predator could be behind you. RIGHT NOW OH SHI....
is it really only sins that has arrogant players, or almost every online game out there?
It's far worse in Sins. There's no 'automatch', so you're forced to join random games and hope for the best. In most RTS', you can just grab 1 or 2 of your friends and have the server assign you opponents based on rank (or 1v1 of course). People can smurf still, yes, but once your rank increases enough you won't run into n

Seems like the EA devs REALLY liked World in Conflict. So much that they pretty much copied it. It might work out for clan play, but from what a saw with WiC depending on random strangers every game gets very frusterating very quickly. Games were often decided on the loading screen.

People seem to think the main incentive for Ubisoft to use this is anti-piracy. It's not. Despite popular belief that big game publishers are total morons (and it's easy to think this given many of their choices these days), they aren't. They know any system they come up with for anti-piracy will be broken before the game is even officially released. This is about monitoring and controlling when and where their customers can use their products. They are simply us

The point of the beta is to test things and generate hype. Not including a new ship type until the last second is a huge fail on both points. Ironclad doesn't strike me as the sort of company dumb enough to do something like that. The first comment is almost certainly correct; they are moving on to a new game rather than sink more time and resources into a two year old game. As this is the right move.

It provides a much stronger incentive to fix/improve games after release, and to release titles that have replayability as opposed to ones that look cool but become boring quickly. *Puts on tinfoil hat* I tend to agree with the OP actually. I think the ultimate goal with DRM is to have everything in digital format so: -They can completely cut out the middle men (retailers) -They can completely eliminate the secondary market (renting and selling used) -They can start imposing more serious limitations on things. I fully expect in 10 years or so you will start seeing time limitations. You will in essence no

It seems to be aimed primarily at making unlocked FFA games interesting again, which IMO was the way they intended the game to be played. A long drawn out game of chess where late game civilian techs actually come in to play. Not this C&C rushy mcspamfest that people seem to have turned multiplayer in to. Is it going to have an impact on locked team games or 1v1 beyond some late game bonuses and making pirates relavant again? No. It's aimed at single player a
