Definitely name them BTW - I love this game, but the default naming scheme for, well, anything but planets sucks - {G}. I generally have One rally point permanently 'assigned' at every starbase so I can drop constructors to them for upgrades, one for every planet I have consistently running colony ships outward (Just change the rally point to your new planet as needed, and one going for any natural 'groupings' of manufacturing worlds that produce fleets. They're also useful as

Boy are you gonna hate my mod - {G}. Jonnan
My first Psilon (Yor parts) Scoutship managed to look for all the world like it was wearing spectacles - if I still have a copy of the shipcfg I'll post it - {G}. Pug
Jonnan, if you don't mind my asking, what SA are you using at present? Even though we're a little OT.
This is probably obvious, but I'm not interpreting it at the moment: Define term= 'SA'? On other subjects - Cutting off a farm doesn't kill people, it just encourages them to either revoke their citizenship or move to an underpopulated planet - Say's so right in the manual (Albeit not in so many words - {G}).
Umm - I tend to agree with Tetleytea - if you *were* forced to build the most recent improvement, then this would be a bug. Since you're not so forced, , it seems obvious to me it does *not* describe a bug as such, but merely a secondary option. One I might add that i have had occasion to use. You might argue about whether or not it's a design flaw - but personally I find that, if anything, farms are far too likely to be upgraded to a level I don't want despite my best efforts
Recommendation: Don't play nethack - {G}.
Gee - you'd think we'd had this argument before or something - {G}. For myself - eh, sure I could buy breeder, and as my skill increases I might get there, but for the moment I just stay at my wussy lil skill levels and spend points on research advantages - Jonnan
when I was a kid I use to play Starflight. I remember playing for our and hours exploring space and mapping planets for colonization. Mining for endurium. I loved that game. Wish they could make another one like that!!!
I played Starflight on the Atari ST (Much better than the IBM version I later met. How the hell did we lose to Microsoft again? Oh, yeah, utterly imcompetent management - grrrr) and it was c
Conceptually - I think moving things even further from hardcoded features to XML schema would be great, it has certainly made this game a lot clearer and more self documenting than a lot of games, even those that were highly modifiable. And frankly, I just think XML and sgml are cool. That said - having expanded the svg schema a bit just for the purpose of generating keymaps (where those PDF's I uploaded came from - side effect of my playing with SVG) there is so much Stardock
The Silmarillion always felt like reading the Bible to me - I felt like I should know it backward and forward so that I know what I'm talking about when it's brought up, but it's long and boring and dreary and I just don't care that much - {G}. Jonnan
Does anyone else have the desire to yell "Hey Everybody! Neo's fighting Morpheus!" - {G} Jonnan
Just out of curiosity - does anyone have the tax formula annotated in an easy to understand way. I've looked at the wiki , and I just never have figured the darn thing out - constant * sqrt(population_in_billions) * tax_rate * (1 + (sum from buildings on planet)) * (1 + (sum from racial bonuses/maluses) ) Presuming the constant in TA to be 20, 1 billion colonists should be enough to maintain a planet at 50% tax rate gi
Sadly, by the time I get to the advanced troop modules, I find I generally have most places colonized - {G}. But the basic troop modules will give you a 1.25 billion colony ship (one colony module, two troop modules), with 10 space left over for life support. At a max increase of 75 million/week, an extra 500 million colonist saves about a month getting colonies to the point of profitability. Jonnan
I've not noted that. I occasionally notice the starbase icon missing on resource starbases when following the AI/auto-pilot moves - I'll see what looks like an unclaimed resource, then when I track it down it is actually in use - seems to be related to the minor races, at least inasmuch as I've never noticed it on a resource belonging to a major race. But nothing as general as all resource starbase icons missing. Jonnan
I guess I don't see it as all that bad a learning curve, presuming a basic familiarity with the style of game. There are surprises - I still come across tidbits on the forum that remind me I'm a relative newbie, but it's not all that complicated, just deep. Jonnan
I feel stupid - the only thing I can think of is dropping a spy on the cic while it's being built? Jonnan
Also, I'm running with a +2 speed bonus, which seems (to me) to be more advantageous on several small ships than on a few large ones, particularly in combination with building the "Eyes of the Universe" item. So you can pop in 5 life support units on, get the same speed everyone elses flagship gets, and get much better cartographic mapping out of it than with the equivalent investment in the larger cargo vessels. Jonnan
Umm - having just changed from the Psilon to the Unimatrix (Wanted to try the Yor tech tree) - saved custom races seem to be available in the game as opponents. Jonnan
"I don't care if it's my turn on the duty roster, I am *NOT* cleaning up the holodeck after Commander Riker!"
Last game was one of the few times I ever initiated a war - the Thalans, Drathi, Torians, Yor, Snathi, and the Dark Yor were having their big intragalactic war raging across mostly my territory, while I was quietly fighting the dreadlords with no help from them, albeit building up to the complete defensive layout and nightmare torpedoes. Upon defeating the Dreadlords I announced the imposition of Pax Technologica upon all involved parties (Gifting the Altarians, Iconians, and
All these influence starbases I've been over paying - {G}. Fired, all of you! Jonnan
Given the lack of interest the AI's put into anomalies, I can see either one as an option - if they put out more survey vessels, the higher speed would be a bigger factor, but then, if they put out more survey vessels, I would be more concerned about potentially running into uber-ships that had been surveying forever too and would care more about survey vessels that took advantage of the hitpoint bonuses and experience upgrades too. As it happens, they seem to care less about the theo
I concede - I had assumed that a ratio over 4 made a larger chance of flipping as well - not the case? Jonnan
I had good luck with Bulk Rename when I was on windows: http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php
I have a sad tendency to dislike starting unprovoked wars, so I grab them their research and economic treaties - I just go around building my empire up - . I have been known to trade the tech capital or shrine of the Mithrilar to them - you can generally count on their actually building one of those, *then* when you invade later you have a second one - .
