save up your pennies sturmadler, yes you can buy a newer AGP card and possibly a faster CPU. however it's going to be far far far better to let your current machine retire gracefully and build a brand new one. the new AMDs are reportedly very upgrader friendly (with respect to future upgrading), so i'd look there as my first choice. if you want a starting point; 790GX for your mobo. that's my $0.02

Supreme Commander had mod support during beta, however since i wasn't part of it i don't know at what point it came. that said, GPG has let the Moho Engine grow and mature so it's perfectly reasonable to see a good amount of modability this early (after all, the Moho Engine was around for a looong while before Demigod). GCFL, even though Stardock is publishing DG (god bless them for it) they are not making it. you really can't compare SOASE and DG as they were m

unless i'm mistaken; beta 1 (there's several betas) has closed, but you can still pre-order and start using beta 2 when it comes out. after that, you'll still have access to future betas too. so, pre-order Today. at worst you'll have to wait a week-or-two for beta 2. this information is readily available, if you look for it.

gah! curse the lack of a working edit button. Thief; i play with 1 8800GT (and it's *cringes* a 256MB one) and only 1.5GB RAM, with max settings (but no AA) on 1280x1024 and i reach the game-limited framerate of 100fps.

innociv is correct. you can get HD3870 on AGP, and a fair few middle-range 8-Series geForce cards too. i have an old 6600GT (supports SM3.0) on AGP lying about somewhere too. its just a matter of knowing where to look. however, i'd just save up all my pennies and start budgetting for a new computer .

there's models (which i assume use SM3.0) of the DGs in the menus, that probably explains why it's chucking a fit in menus. it appears there's lots of SM2.0 people on the forum (that, or there's a few yelling really loudly) so i suspect GPG might bump up the priority of implementing legacy shaders. also, if you can play FA (with it's framerate eating FoW) the you really don't need to upgrade to play DG.

justs hope and pray that they don't break and nothing insane (say, Crysis) falls into your lap, save up and buy a HD4850 (this is coming from a die-hard nVidia fanboy with a 8800GT). the 8-Series is old and superseded (but by no means slow), there's better things on the market. but with respect to the computer listed; it should run DG no problems at 1280x1024.

just a small update; i googled _controlfp and discovered that it has something to do with the precision that the engine calculates floating point numbers (for the layman; how fractions and decimals work in the game, maths stuff) with respect to special circuits on new/old CPUs... that is unless i've found a different _controlfp and am talking out my butt. maybe that DXDiag report might be useful afterall...

'nuff said. this is something the dev's (particularly the ones in charge of WinMain) will understand. unless one of the dev's specifically needs it, i think a DXDiag report will only waste space.

there's a few reasons to store things outside of installation folders (personally, i don't think games should be stored in \Programs Files\ at all. instead C:\Games\ is much safer and easier to maintain). saving player profiles and game saves should be kept in %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Games\; it's easy to find and keeps your things in your account (so no more little brother deleting your awesome-level-10-billion-profile unless he has access to your windows account, and he shouldn

to prevent the experienced/lucky players from getting way ahead of the competition this should be open to the bottom-feeder only. not the bottom feeder on each team, but the bottom-feeder -- and there's still issues that may need to be accomidated for (ie. the bottom-feeder has 1050 exp and the leader has 1060 exp). it does add clutter, however any clutter could be reduced by making it tradeable at the artifact shop in the centre of the

i do believe this has happened before to someone else. i have no idea what it is really, except the chance of it being a very odd easter egg. this requires more research... more 3 vs. 1 ganking!

thanks for pointing that out NwExilon, it's something i never noticed. for all those confused by miliseconds and such, divide 1000 by the number DG gives you and you get the framerate... or use FRAPS.
