UberHeroes are kinda the point of this type of game. Don't like them -- play GalCiiv 2 or Total War. (Well, maybe Civilization, but I haven't played that series since original DOS Civ).

After you turn the graphics off, I don't think you recover the memory until you exit and restart. Other than that nothing to help you... ...but, since you're not the only one to turn graphics on to find beaches, how about a big hint to the devs that beaches should be visible even in cloth-map mode (somebody requested it months ago too).
"Cloth Map Only" reduces memory usage some. Keep fog of war off too (its off by default). Both of those effect memory usage. They make the difference for me between never OOM-ing and what you describe.
I had 2 mounted archer champions whittling away at an army of footsloggers. When I tried to move one, who happened to be near the edge, to another square near the edge (but NOT over the edge in the cloudy area), the evil automatic pathing system decided to move him onto one of the glow-y retreat squares, and then the game decided to retreat him. Please tweak so it will never use a retreat square as an intermediate step on the path to an ordinary square.
I've had it just once, about 15 minutes ago. Retried in a couple minutes and it worked.

If you want to go build-to-order, I find Systemax (from Tigerdirect) gives a little more for the money than Dell or Gateway. But I suspect that anyone willing to even consider going build-your-own is better-off doing so. Hope you're not in a hurry. Sandy-Bridge sounds like it ought to be great once they get the chipset bug/replacement done. If you want, I think you have to wait a couple months. If you want AMD then you should be more future-proof if you can wai
If "a" is due tonight, how come the version I downloaded on 1-27 was called "b" ("1.19[b].123" according to Impulse)
We have 4 machine gun nests around the parameter
"parameter" ?? You're spending too much time coding. Try putting a moat between the computer vocabulary and the military vocabulary.
Agree with CHiZZoPS re spell skill (not re capitalization :)
Sorry, enable cheats to turn it OFF, so you can see.
Fog of War. If you have to ask, I assume it is on (the default) for you, so not the cause of any problems you might be having. To turn it on, enable cheats, then press control-U while in the game. To enable cheats, run the game from a shortcut with " cheat" on the end of the target, in my case "C:\Games\Stardock\Elemental\Elemental.exe cheat"
Question / suggestion: are those of you who keep crashing playing with FOW disabled ? If so, try turning it back on.
I've been playing with task-mgr on a second monitor. OOM at around 1.5gb on the current version, give or take. Don't recall prior versions exactly . That's on XP, sp3, 3gb ram, 32-bit, Playing largest size maps, with ridiculous difficulty, with FOW off, in cloth-map-only mode. Loading a save in my current camplaign would start at about 1.4 ~ 1.3 gb, and I would die in less than 10 turns. But turning FOW on reduces memory footprint by about 45%. Since do
None of the armor / defense / dodge really bother me that much. What armor defends against the vastly over-powered Out-Of-Memory-Error ?
Are you planning to make them free for us graduate students ?
Free for those of us who bought Elemental on day 1 ? :) Free for seniors? Seniors who were grad students long ago?
You're not.
"11. Fixed delay in tactical battles with mounted archer units." :)
I like that I can buy good armor for my heroes if I have money. If the inconsistency of needing elementium for one type of unit to get the same armor as another unit type can get without elementium bothers too many people -- change the name of one of the armor's so they aren't "the same" any more.
There was no crash zip file. Message on screen was that it had encountered an inconvenience and needed to close. debug.err http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8928343/debug-turn-crash.err save game from about 10 minutes before http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8928343/QuickSave-turn-crash.EleSav xp sp3 32-bit, 3gb ram Event-viewer info below
One more way..... Buy the book, pick Xander as sovie. With good equipment, experience and a belly-full of potions, he can take the hermit and all his buddies single-handed. Just did it last night, on 1.1D. His potion-enhanced combat speed was 10 or 11. His attacks don't provoke counterattacks, and even when someone swings at him, his high dodge-factor usually keeps his armor from even getting scratched.
When do we get the 64 bit version?? I want to use all 12GB of my memory!! *drools*
I'd have to take care of some other details, like getting a new computer, but now that Sandy Bridge is coming, that's ok.
all us customers can do is keep posting
Especially when new versions come out, as they fix the next-to-last issue, or add new ones.
City spam has another negative side effect. Per Frogboy's comments in other threads, in late-game lots of buildings causes problems. Fewer cities probably means slightly fewer buildings even if average city-size increases a bit.
