Thats a real problem with games that use something from real life, we demand that they behave as they do in real life. To the point that a good set of rules can't be included because people will complain when their battleship gets defeated by the phalanx. Yes its annoying, but geez if you have a battleship and they the phalanx think what the AI must be thinking.... <br /
Gotta have some randomness involed or you might as well be playing your game on a spreadsheet. I think the idea that randomness killed Civ IV is just silly. That's a wildly popular game for a strategy title. I've been playing Civ games since I knew what PC games were and they've done an excellent job with the series. No reason to hate on a game just because you don't care for a part of its system.
Yeah steam didn't force anyone (but valve) to use steam. Like I've said before I would prefer every game to use at least one of the platforms because its SOO much better than the alternative (i.e. having to create a new acount to play, gamespy and silly non standard crap). Ah the disscusions on MMO forums about what kind of armour females should wear. So good. Of course the answer is always the same from me - "Anything

Back to Steam though, i still prefer Impulse, and Steams 3 hour downtime tonight only solidfies that. Everything is so incestial with them that when something need to be taken down, they pretty much take it all down. I hate that.

If you want to feel slighted as a gamer and blame it on the industry being male dominated, that's a personal issue. There is enough variety in games being offered nowadays that anyone who cal
Way to go GoG. They've done a great job bringing back some classics.
no, what im arguing is that games are developed to be fun and good, and that one's gender or race (i mean seriously, minorities? lol) has less of a determining factor in the types of games that are enjoyed by people than you seem to think. plus, you didnt answer my question. exactly how would a game catering to girls differ from what we're seeing today? and i don't mean the boring casual games, im talking about real
Gotcha. Well I generally just let a game choose its own settings and only messed with it when i thought wow, that doesnt' seem right. AA doesn't seem to be turned on automatically so sometimes i turn it on, sometimes I don't. I didn't really understand the feature real well enough to think I should be messing with it, but if its something other people tinker with I figure I might try it when i shift to newer games again, most the games I am playing now are pretty well aged except maybe Tropic
Since you gentlemen are speaking about this, I am wondering, is there a way to know when you should or should not use other than say increasing the value and seeing if runs like crap or runs fine and looks better?
Well asking is a good start. Marketing isn't just about making stuff up and seeing what sticks. There are actually methods available to study and inquire about your target market. I never said women don't like the same games men did. What I have been saying is we aren't catered to, for the most part, so that if we like a game, it's just by chance. You don't make a character like Bayonetta has and tell me she was created for women because she is a female character. Clearly she wasnt'
You’re just proving my point…Women gamers are no different to men; they enjoy games based on personal preference, not some weird biological determinism. First you would have to identify the fundamental differences between the gaming sexes before you argue that developers should pay attention or treat gamers as two distinct groups based on gender. Most of the gamers i know pick female character regardless of what gender they actually are, after all, crude as it may be, if you are going to be staring at someone's ass for the next 20 hours, i would rather it be a female a
yeah, i don't quite understand how/why "female" games would differ from male ones, other than a few cosmetic differences in character choices etc. surely female gamers enjoy slaying dragons or shooting rocket launchers or racing cars as much as their male counterparts?
Quoting Nesrie, reply 15 the mainstream typically could care less if women play their games and hardly make an effort to appeal to them.
Quoting -RAISTLIN-, reply 8 if its such a good time to be a PC gamer, why are we being subjected to cross-platform titles that reek of consolitis? Because games have become too expensive to develop, so if you can launch it in another platform with minimal cost (compared to the cost of developing the game), you'll probably do it. But I can't understand the console hate, there are great games
ergo, its hardly a "good time to be a PC gamer".
I see your point. However, when a company does it right, makes it for the PC and stops treating their customers like thieves, it's still truly great.
