but Eric Bana also signed instead of Russell Crowe, etc. oh man would that have been a disaster if the opposite actually occurred
you think so? i actually think it wouldnt have mattered at all because nero was really a weak villain, script-wise (he had very very little screen time)
What I'm getting at is that they could have made the movie a reboot and a starting point for a new series and not mess with continuity any more than any other movie did and keep the plot the same. Spock and Nero could have travelled to the future instead of the past. They could have done the exact same plotline, just with a different crew and ship in the future.
@minor race: so you mean a setting after/during tng/v
btw, the bit with the mining ship having weapons etc. apparantly the back-story is explained in a small comicbook-series (somehow it merged with something the borg did or something like that) as well as how that supernova apparantly threatened the whole galaxy (wtf) and so on
and as far as I undarstand, Spock is emotionless so what dose he care?
you didnt undarstand right - (geek talk:) vulcans do have emotions but they mastered surpressin
Then isn't it better to simply let the franchise die on its own merits, than to completely dump the past and start over?
well, those were apparantly the two choices - let it die - or reboot. but in defense of the movie, while it really felt like star trek light to me, it was a darn entertaining piece. i'll mourn over not seeing a new movie with captain picard or a movie with sisko, but i'd rather take this than nothing at all. tr
rightwinger, i wasnt smartass, at least i didnt intend to. i just wanted to show that star trek simply wasnt successfull anymore. the ratings already went down midway through voyager and enterprise was cancelled because they were too low (because even a lot of fans didnt watch it anymore). you seem to miss my point - i didnt want to say that nemesis etc was bad (i liked nemesis but a lot of voy and ent really didnt suit me) - but simply that it didnt make enough money. as i already sa
Um rightwing it would seem to me that now there are two worlds of Star Trek. You have one world in which the stick-in-the-muds can keep or those of us who still enjoy that series can checkout. You have a new world for which those who would not mind see a new series done for the old crew. So nothing was wiped out just a new branch was added at the base of the Star Trek tree timelin
okay, i was far too lazy to read through the whole thread, but i just wanted to add one little thing that a lot of people here seemd to got wrong (excuse me if it already has been discussed): there is no need to patch up the timeline or anyting after this movie - the idead was, that the romulan ship going through the black hole created an alternate timeline, i.e. it runs parallel to the original star trek timeline. this isnt made up by me, but has been explained by j.j. abram
Disadvantages only for the one that get hit.
i was under the impression that this counts for every weapon ;)
what video card do you have?
the spelling here ;)
well, in bethesdas "defence", they were just the publishers and left the programming to someone else ^_^

I think also that it is often underestimated. Their was a star trek game that came out recently, but it was sooo simplified it bored me to death. Cannot remember the name. Klingon Academy and Starshatter are the best ones I have encountered so far.
star trek legacy, it s*cked a*s, at le
X3:R is indeed slow paced. It's possible to skip the "trading" part of the game and focus on fighting, but it's still slow.
well, depends - if you go for xenon raids it is quite fast paced and as long as you stay in smaller ships (m3 - m3+ or the m7 yacht) it's actually a nice combat simulator. but the heart of the game is definatly the economy and that is indeed a bit slower ^_^
one thing about the build order i am curious about - does it really pay off to upgrade the homeplanet population right at the beginning? because, the planet is already developed so far, that you dont have to pay any underdevelopement tax and the upgrade is not exactly cheap. i prefer to invest that money rather into further ships or research, thus being able to advance far more quickly and gain more credits faster (through new colonies or/and earlier trade ports) - so, does it
is it that different? it's just another perspective. probably the same broadcast tower we saw in pic two in the background. the two parts may be a bit further apart and there is no energy line linking them, but that's about it. other than that I don't see how they look different. I mean maybe this baby is like the galaxy class of star trek. part of it can detach itself and fly around, who knows?
@exarion looks entertaining hehe - would you share your configuration with us, i wont to see all that firsthand ;)
in another picture it looks different again (check the link or look below ;) ) perhaps it has something to do how you specialice your base or what skills you use/choose
just stumbled on this while browsing :) this looks pretty impressive ;) btw, i used the search-funtction and didnt find anything, i hope im not doubleposting (all the pictures with high-resolution can be found at the following link ) <img src="http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2008/342/954128_20081208_
why only 3 to 6 planets? i mean, even our solar system has 8, plus several planet-like ones (pluto, makemake, eris, etc which are too small to be considered as planets) also, how should you be able to colonize a gas giant? you can´t technically set a foot on it...
well, sins (and a lot of other games) have the advantage that the multiplayer is in integral of the whole game - and you can´t pirate working cd-keys (i.e. those that work online). so, at leat for multiplayer games the world doesnt look that bad at all
a lot of people scuttle the cap-ship facility, because it isn´t needed for the next time and the extra credits come in handy
