Daaaamn, RavenX when you try to get something together...
Heh, I do try. Go big or go home, I always say. Mostly my goal is just to try to organize everyone's efforts. We're all sci-fi fans here so we know we'll see the obligatory Trek/War mods and the others from our favorite shows. I just want to gather up completed race/faction packs for people for them to download already completed. I know I can&#39
The key xmls for this are ShipClassDefs and FactionShipStyleSetDefs The key is, you use the ships you designed as templates. Then you make sure the xml points to the correct file name. As mentioned above, the lame thing is that the modding system does not yet look for ship designs in a mod folder (or even in your own design folder in my tests). It only looks for designs in the program folders version of the design
@RavenX: They actually planned to give you the choice to define how your ships should act in the fight. Like this ship is aggressive, and this one should stay back. It didn't make it for release, but will come either in a DLC or expansion.
That sounds pretty good, but I thought that was also accomplished with the ship role/class we have now? They should be able to tie behavior into roles pretty easily.

And all of this, this Entire thread, is the only problem I've ever really had with GalCiv as a game (series). The Lack Of Controllable battles. Games like Total War have controllable battles, and they also have a "auto-resolve", even though those battles have in depth controls and variables to take into account when auto-calculating. After Elemental I was Really Stoked for the next GalCiv because I figured they'd use the battle engine from Elemental. Just as is pointed out

Very Well Done indeed :) . So you created custom ships and when being played by the AI it'll use those ships? I'm very interested in how to do this as it's the only issue I had trouble doing in my GC2 edits. I'll definitely be giving your mod a try!!! What xml's did you need to edit/add to so you could get their ships to be used by them?

You can create a custom rally point in a open hex, I just did it earlier. Not sure which rally menu it's on. It's either from the shipyard screen or the map screen. Name the rally point then you can assign your shipyard to it. It would be handy if we could just select the shipyard and then right click on the map and have that be it's point though. Should be the default action when stationed and not mobile as it's the same as the move command when it's not anchored.</p

Yeap, I always turn off all the auto game-ending conditions. The only three I leave on are conquest, cultural, and allied victory. The tech and ascension and time limit conditions are all off. Nothing worse than getting invested in a giant map and then bam, someone reaches the end of the tech tree and it's over.
How do the materials and surfaces work?
I haven't done any surfaces yet my-self, but in Derek's post here: https://forums.galciv3.com/461766/page/6/#3549837 he mods a material. Near the bottom of his post before the picture of the ship he talks about messing with reflectivity. Not sure if any of that will give you a hand by looking at it but

I honestly have no idea how any of that would work. Changing a xml value is easy enough. Scripting in new functions or knowing what functions and commands to use is past my little bit of skill. I can find pieces from xml's and combine them and then edit them into something that works for whatever simple thing it is I'm trying to do most of the time, but I think we'd need a local xml Wizard for this one. Finding people good with code who want to help for fun can be as ha

Although the Nazi's and SS were lunatic racists, I have a strong respect for the German boys who died for their country. And the Germans did have some great hardware.
Indeed, well said. In war the common people of any nationality and/or race get demonized, while those same common people of whatever nation involved normally have no say i

I've only made one race so far, just to mess around and learn to play again as unlike everyone else I didn't get all that sweet sweet beta time to enjoy the game. I made some Iron Sky style Space Nazis. I used pics from "Iron Sky", "Wolfenstein", and the one bad guy from "Hellboy" (can't remember his name) as the race leader. No custom ships yet, just the pics for the faction and faction creator. I would put up a screenshot but I'm hesitant to do so as I did use a mo

Adding in some more custom logos first. Making the logos isn't the problem. I'm not sure what script to reference them in so they show up in game. Also the references for custom race pictures would be pretty handy as well. While I'm making them I might as well bang out a few at once. Just the names of the xmls I need to edit/add to would be very helpful. I'm assuming they're in the my docs\my games directory somewhere as well, correct? Thanks for
This mod excites me. Hope it works out
I'm still hesitant to call it a "mod". If everyone contributes it'll be more of a collection page where people can go and get links to or download information for or just knowledge of the race and factions mods that exist all in one place. The that person can go down the list and add all the factions from their favorite shows that they want. Maybe someone only
