cute, and up until the force thing, very accurate. Ship to ship the Federation would drill the Empire hands down. plus, if Picard hadnt answered that Com, nothing would have happened so after a few losses, protocol would have been to shoot first and ask questions later im not sure if i would choose an older style battleship (i.e. yamamoto or bismarck) or a modern day cruiser... (most navies decomissioned their battleships because guns are obsolete compared to missiles etc) i mean, a h

you could always just play a really small map, you usually dont have the time/planets/resources to get to the top of the tree but, there could be some sort of extra game modes or a way to set how high your initial research is at in the enxt X-pack

um... okay... but you are missing out i can tell you with some certainty that Sins wont come out on Steam because Impulse also acts as an Auto-Patcher for the game. you could always install Impulse, download the game and update it, then uninstall Impulse afterwards, although you will have to re-install it to get updates etc... But honestly, i have to say some people have some funny (arrogant) ideas about their rights in the meantime... i guess its your los
The problem with this is that all of Advents anti-ship (ie non-bombardment) weapons are energy weapons, so they would be at a severe disadvantage.
not at all, the Advent have lasers, plasma, and beam weapons, and the starbase has that psionic surge whatsamacallit perhaps in reality all those weapons types would be very close mitigation wise, however lore-wise we can say that lasers are fine tuned so the mitigation is different to say beam weapons whos beam confi
Its funny how everyone keeps picking those plastic toys from star trek and other sci-fi movies. Take a look at an imperial star destroyer, or even a super star destroyer and you will get an idea of how a Bismarck or a Yamato of the space should look like.
pfft, star wars ships are all flash and over compensating by size id much rather a smaller, much higher tech ship i mean, 1 or 2 (2 if you want to leave nothing left) Mk9 Naqua

i agree with this... and i also agree with the illum side beams thing... the illum can fire behind itself cant it? that might negate the tactic... though if the devs gave it a 40 degree blindspot behind itself it could be a good tactic anyway, my two thumbs up for this

downsides to the penalty system are early game there arent that many resources to go around as it is, and, when you are ready to build your bombad planet smashing fleet, you have to take 30% whatever more time and resources to build it. that, and it wouldnt fit into lore or economic rules. there is a thing where if you buy in bulk it becomes cheaper. same thing goes. if anything, the first frigate you build should be the most expensive, then after 20-30 or so of the same ship, the pri
LRM swarms with flak are hard to counter. LRMs counter (fighter) gets pwned by the flaks while the flaks counter (LFs) get pwned by the LRMs. But LRMs supported by flak is a BALANCED fleet. not spam. Spam would be if he only sent LRMs, which would then get mauled by fighters
i agree, thats a mixed fleet, except no one builds LF anymore, they just build up their LRF and Carriers and fire away at each other. also, you said that Flak > SC, but the LF > than t

okay, i dont usually do this, but its something about this post... we dont need to know all the games you've played... i dont think anyone cares... its a forum, not a job interview you dont need to bring your CV its a forum about Sins of a Solar Empire, not showing off all the games you've played and what internet sites you run and how you cant use the return key on your keyboard also, hmm, a thread in a forum dedicated to Sins of a Solar Empire, you call your thread S

wow, all very nice ideas, im glad someone is taking the ball and running with it im thinking also if you mine it for advanced technologies (and face it, there would have to be some advanced tech there considering the size at least) it could act something like an artifact once colonised and explored one question, the whole grav well with no tactical slots thing, does that mean the ship itself wont have weapons like i mentioned in the OP?

i guess thats what the Devs had in mind when they designed the Mitigation system, though if it doesnt work it should be upgraded i do like the idea, and id also like the idea of flanking a ship means its shields will drop faster (i.e. firing at a ship from in front and from behind will cause the shields to fail faster than just firing at one point) just on a side note, i think the lore with mitigation is wrong. In the manual etc, it says mitigation is a system that changes the

@Derek06 yeah, so you are saying, by mid game, you shouldnt be producing LFs, and by late game you shouldny be producing LF's or LRF's, because you have heavier cruisers plu support cruisers? this is wrong, each ship should have a market it can cater for. for instance, HC's should be heavy, slow moving power houses that tear most other ships to shreds, while LF's should be less powerful, but fast and manouverable, good for breaking through battlelines and takin out your l

just while glancing at the idea, one visual problem is that the planet revolves while orbital structures do not. then, if you want to place an important structure, like a military lab, phase disruptor, shield generator etc behind the planet, but orbital structures revolve with the planet, then all the enemy has to do is time his jump appropriately to circumvent the act of shielding it behind the planet gameplay wise, it could be useful, but i think you are thinking too much in

the more i think about it, the more unlikely it seems. i was just thinking something epic, other than just fighting another empire you wouldnt fight the ship itself, so much as you would actually destroy gun emplacements and repair bays and factories etc and when enough are damaged you can attack the bridge or just go straight for the bridge, idn maybe for a campaign, if SD/IC ever does one, but i have to say for what we have now i guess not oh well, back to the drawin

and if you put two experienced players with 20 LRF? or a newer player with 10 HC and an experienced player with 20 LRF? technically, the expereinced player should be able to out manouver the newbie, seeing as he would most likely just send all his ships in and focus fire, while the experienced player might send in 5 ships to attack from the front and 5 to attack from behind (using my recommendation of flanking etc) hell, with 20 LRF for newbie and 10 for exp player (assuming they are bot

i have to say i dont like the hard counter system i.e. Scissors, Paper, Rock i think making Sins battles more tactical by making flanking manouvers etc viable and desirable would definitly be a plus. it may be too hard to accomplish since i guess the game is sorta hard coded with the current system but if its possible, thats my vote. Hard counters sure, but make it that superior tactics can and will overcome simply spamming counters
