Having separate systems decreases the matchup frequency.
I find this statement very interesting. One one hand we are too believe that the core support of a game that will sustain it into the future comes from people who want to play in arranged teams because supposedly this is such a popular concept. On the other hand we are reminded that if you had a seperate ladder for arranged teams and randoms teams that there wouldn't be enough people playing to sup
This sounds very carebearish. You cannot cater to everyone. Having separate systems decreases the matchup frequency. Why does there need to be an automatch for people who play solo? There's custom games for that. This is not Starcraft or Command and Conquer where 1v1s reign supreme. This is a team game. There is no need convolute matters more by catering to every person's playstyle. Again, no one is complaining about this in Red Alert
There needs to be an arranged team and random team ladder. There's a market for both playstyles. Some people love to be able to get with their buddies on ventrilo and coordinate their attacks. This is gaming at its finest. However, there are also lots of people that just want to be able to pick up and play without having to rely on others and "find friends" in order to compete. WC3 had a solo ladder, random team ladder, and arranged teams ladder. This worked the best. I know t
One thing I can say is that as a long time Blizzard fan is that they are well known for long support once a game is released. It's no accident people still avidly play SC, WC, and DOTA (yes, I understand that's a non-Blizz map/mod) after all these years. And for that ethic, they were rewarded w/ the cash cow also known as WoW. It's good to know SD and GPG have the same attitude. For me, a game is not a toy I goof off with for a week or two and then put away...it becomes a hobby and a
Here's the thing about a hero like the UCB - the difference between being underpowered and overpowered is very, very small. Melee heroes are almost always like this. If they are excessively kiteable, then they are going to basically be an XP fountain for ranged classes. However, the flip is true - if you can't kite the UCB, then he's going to own all but the most durable classes. Right now I'm reserving judgement as to where he is. We just haven't played the game enough. He is frustrating to
I see reports of "bad connectivity". But please understand, when we play the game with people online it works perfectly so we need to try to understand specifically what you're seeing. So when you say "I can't get into a multiplayer custom game" for instance, what specifically do you mean? Can you bring up the connectivity dialog? What does it say? That kind of thing. The more you tell us, the qu
How about split up the regions like you mention so USA can only play with USA guys. Europe can only play with Europe, etc. I think most people don't care about playing internationally especially with the lag.
Perhaps that is in order to have one Pantheon instead of several. Although Blizzard did well its 4 different leader boards generally segmented by region. I like the concept of a unified world competition
Yep, as a game, I love it and when multiplayer works it's a ton of addictive brain candy. When I get in a MP game and no one drops, it runs well. However, it's still a slow chore to get into games. Frankly, it just takes too long. Also, when a player drops and gets replaced by AI, that team is at a supreme disadvantage because AI is just terrible unfortunately.
A few things: 1.) the "tilde" thing works --- it brings up health bars. Very nice. On edit: in multi-player it seems to flip off or something. Wasn't as reliable as I originally thought it was. [e digicons]#:([/e] 2.) The ping thing works but it seems you have to click on the real "physical map" where you want and it shows up on the mini map. A little clumsy design imo. 3.) It looks like there is debate on run speed. I guess I'm just used to WC3 r
Thanks for all the feedback, tips, and replies above.
This a very preliminary review of the game. For background I'm an experienced WC3 raider (Sarth + 3D Heroic Glory of the Raider guild), WC3 player (ranked on Azeroth), and a distant Starcraft player. Overall I'm a decent player at these kinds of games, not great but usually competent once I learn the ropes. Obviously I'm also a Blizzard fan. Right now, I'm a noob at Demigod but plan to stick with it and get much better. The idea of a DOTA style game intrigued me, so I bought Demigod.
quoting postIGN gives it 7.5/10 Gamespot gives it 6.5/10 1UP gives it 5/10 I mean those are the three major sites where most sales come from right? IGN gave its gameplay a 9.0, but due to its connectivity they bogged the rating down a bunch. So the question is, if you were waiting to buy Demigod and you saw those review ratings, would you really go out and buy it? The answer is no. Sorry
I was able to get into a couple custom games last night and had a blast. However, overall, it has been a HUGE hassle to get into games.
I was having the same exact problem today Seevtastic, in fact on my screen you were one of the people having problems connecting in my games. Like you said, a lot of the time I can connect to 4/6 or 3/4 of the other players and vice versa but there always seemed to be one or two people who couldn't connect to any of the others. I have to do more router work after my work to see if I can fix this... If not, I'm bummed. I really like the game.
This game has so much potential...I love the single player mode. I'm still not able to get into a game. I've tried skirmish, pantheon, join custom games and so forth. I have my ports opened as per the guide and I can connect some people but there's always other people that don't connect and the game never starts. Also, joining custom games usually says "failed to join". I was able to get as far as trying to host a game w/ the arena selection panel up but no one joined my game.
Umm...I've only played the "skirmish" mode on single player so far and I think the game has a ton of potential. Had the multi-player stuff been working well right out of the box, I think you might be dealing with a "Blizzard" level game on your hands. I'm a long time WC3 player and what I love most about that game is I'm just one password, a click, and about 60 seconds away from a hot multi-player game. I love playing ladder w/ the auto-match feature based on skill level. I don't like
