As with everything, it has its ups and downs. I personally have no problem drawing the skins that I want in photoshop/maya, but when it comes to actually making them happen, I find it very tedious and frustrating. I've done a couple that looked good in the comp, but I just couldn't translate it well to a skin package.

Yes, it's true. After my little rant about how I wouldn't be upgrading to WinXP for some time yet, I finally caved. My Win2K install was starting to act up, and XP RC2 was up on MSDN, so I did the only thing a big fat liar such as myself could do and downloaded it. My main gripe with it before was the issues with sharing "protected" folders, and since this was on my main machine, I don't need to access these from my other machines. Anyway, after much tweaking, crashing and swearing, I got everyt

Windows 3.11 for word processing, but my hardware wasn't that great to play the current games, and I didn't like the idea of my text only interface being permanently replaced. Seeing the way 3.11 behaved was enough to put me off making Windows my only option. Actually I never ran 95 for more than a few weeks, I switched to NT4, then to 98se for a little while (big mistake, horrible OS), then back to 2k. I'm not too keen on upgrading to XP, but may give in after a while, see how it pans out for e

Draginol - I can't remember, this would've been in the late 70s/early 80s. What I do remember is that there was a grey square, and a slightly darker grey square, you could move up and down AND left and right (better than tennis!), and you had to somehow destroy the other block. Based on the TV at the time being most likely 640x480 resolution, I'd estimate the resolution put out by this machine to be somewhere in the region of 32x24.

The part about the error msg on opening folders sounds like what I'm getting on win2k adv server. If I double click any of the DX shortcuts I have set up for folders, it opens as it should, along with a dialog that says something along the lines of "Access to the specified device is denied". Also, I find that a lot of apps (installers in particular) give me an error message (something about being 16 bit), with an ignore/cancel thing. If I ignore, it goes ahead fine, these are all current install

I looked into delphi, it also looks to be quite difficult. I got a sample from Mr. Belev, and while it made sense, it was pretty basic and I'm not sure where to go from there, anyone know where I can get more Delphi samples?

Hey, I was looking at the DX plugin examples, yet another item to the ever growing list of why I can't put off learning c++ (I've successfully put it off for about 8 years now), and I noticed that you put a plugin suggestion for link of the day. Such a plugin would have to work by downloading a file containing said link. I got thinking about it, and realized that a plugin to do such a thing was something of a vast overkill. If you're having to hit the server anyway, why not just link to

Photoshop is the base tool to learn, it takes time to learn, and it helps if you take care to not get caught up in the filters. Do some photoshop tutorials from the aforementioned links, and also try here for some great tutorials - http://www.computerarts.co.uk Once you're comfortable with photoshop, there's a few directions in which you can go, 3D stuff always makes good wallpaper, and the 3D programs that I like are Maya and 3DS Max, of course, these are a little pricey, theres one ca

I've uploaded a copy of my install.log to http://www.projectginger.com/INSTALL.LOG You'll need to copy it into your DX install directory and take a look through it to make sure all the paths are right etc, and verify reg keys if you're not on 2k, shouldn't be too much of a problem though. Hope this sorts it for you. AJ

Wow, I was just thinking they should have a Counter Strike clan member on the dialectizer, then I spotted hacker which is remarkably similar. Unfortunately, there seem to be some words missing from the hackers' vocabulary that are ESSENTIAL to quality Counter Strike playing, or, as they say in the business, M4D 5K1LLZ!!!!! Here's the dialectizer's version: hi~~~ h ow ar u!?!?!?!?!? i send you this file ino rder to have ur advice see u l8r~~~~ TNX Here is how it may hav

Right you are sir, because the middle cell is of unspecified width it will stretch to fit if the other 2 fit their content, so both methods work. I'm still not sure as to what exactly Mr. Silvergem was trying to achieve with his page though, but whatever it was, I'm sure between us he's got enough to get it working now. Cheers, AJ

That wouldn't work Paxx, the problem is that the table is 100% width, and if the tds don't fill that amount, then they will be stretched to compensate, causing the overlapping.

And if you want the picture to repeat across the entire length of the screen, a table is not the answer, as each cell has to match the size of the image to be repeated, and there's no easy way to calculate the number of cells without making it scroll, something like this would be more appropriate: This would tile the image across the top as a background. Let me know if neither of my answers are what you're looking for. AJ

Not sure EXACTLY what you're trying to do, I made a page with what I can tell from your code, correcting a couple of things that weren't strictly correct (eg height and valign belong in tr, not td). Download my version from http://www.projectginger.com/gemstone.html - hope it's what you're looking for. AJ

Nice link, and true I wasn't raised in North America, and I agree, it's often not the word, but how it's said, we would never have got in trouble for saying something along the lines of "I was swearing, so my parents gave me hell", or "This is pure hell", the words "hell" and "damn" carried no more weight than "heck" or "blast", so maybe it's a difference between North American society and English

What we need is an application that would extract the alpha channel from these images into a greyscale image that could be pasted into the alpha channel in photoshop, it's entirely possible, and I'm surprised nobody has already done it. I might take a look at writing such a thing later if I get a chance. I would need to know where to get one of these 32bit icons though, any suggestions?
