This pleases AJ greatly, Oct 16th isn't soon enough though. If I had a whip long enough to reach Michigan, it would be cracking right now. One question though, the NVF sounds really nice, but will it work from a postscript format such as EPS, or will it work more like a markup language like VML or SVG?

Wow, it seems like I see that little news article every month that says this one was the biggest yet, but judging from the chart, this one was an even more significant growth than the preceeding months, great to see the site's doing so well, looks like I may have to dust the cobwebs out of my wallet and actually buy something. Keep up the great work all those involved in making this site what it is.

I don't know where people get the idea that quicktime is evil. Truth is that it's the only real alternative to WMA if you want to embed streaming media, it also contains a whole API for scripting, as well as being a a full platform, with a range of available compression codecs.

Hmm, that's not on, I'd be happy to have my name associated with any ratings I've given, along with any number of reasons from the classic, "I'm jealous of your obvious talent" to the ever faithful "I'm having a bad day and have no other way to work out my frustrations". Actually I'm serious, maybe an ability to have your rating posted in the header of your comment of the piece would be beneficial to artists, giving them the opportunity to see what people did and didn't like about their work. Although I used the internet fairly regularly since '93, the only kind of connection available to me was dial up, and in the UK, that's a local call, which costs money, so I tended to make my visits to the net fairly brief and to the point. When I moved to North America in '98, I started hanging out on IRC as a way to stay in touch with some of my friends back home, which was no longer a problem thanks to the wonders of cable and dsl. Now I'm pretty much always on IRC. As for the forums here, I

Thanks Frogboy, just in case you didn't get my message earlier, it would surely make me happy to have that added to the articles section, but would you mind if I just proof read it first to remove a couple of typos/grammatical errors etc.

Max Payne and CounterStrike are my favourites, speaking of which, Flipnet is the only person around here I've had the pleasure of killing, so please feel free to bring it etc. Also, I've heard that Conquest - Frontier Wars is the best RTS since StarCraft, so that's probably worth a look when I finally get time to finish Max Payne.

Wow, long thread and heated debate. Congratulations to anyone that read this far, or just bothered to scroll to this point. Mr. Hegramet, I don't understand where your personal dislike of Brad comes from, nor is it really any of my business, but based on my experience, I'm forced to disagree with you on nearly every aspect. OD is the first piece of software I've ever bought where the CEO of the developing company has taken time to talk to and help me though email, message boards, usene

Hynotoad makes baby Jesus cry. I wrote a huge diatribe on this matter on the newsgroups a couple of weeks ago, and now for your reading pleasure, I'm going to invoke the magic of copy and paste (I may try to edit it down a little, it was rather large), brace yourself: As the vast majority of us know by now, a huge number of web based businesses are failing. I'm sure that in the course of the last year, we've all had a site we know disappear from the face of the world, from the e

Of course, with such things, it's no biggie if it's for personal use, and I can't see the harm in posting a link to a screenshot on a quiet little message board amongst friends, and I can't see that it would *really* matter if the link with the screenshot just happened to have a link to download the skin. My point here is that there are people that I respect, for example, I'd never attempt to distribute a modified Sputnik without contacting Mr. Treetog for permission, or Faux-SX with Mr. Boyer's

Plus there would be an incomprehensible number of random graphics with the letters "X" and "P" placed somewhere on them, and when people got a new toy like Vue D'Esprit we'd get thousands of canned landscape pics.

They're right you know, Win2k is the one true path. Doesn't the "hold down f8 after POST" work any more? If not, you might want to try the old "shift-f5 after POST" (that's between when it's finished counting the RAM and when the windows logo pops up btw).

Here's me, trying to be civil and helpful, restraining myself from mocking the perpetrator of this post, then everyone else gets to have all the fun. Well this is the last time I'm making the first response to a thread with "mockery potential".

14.70 drivers seemed to run fine for me (on XP and 2k), though they dropped my frame rate by about 50% on CounterStrike, so I switched back. Also, they didn't seem to fix any of the issues with OD software.

Speaking of thread killers, there's a forum "law", and I forget the name of it (if anyone else knows this law I'd be happy to be reminded of the name). Anyway, this law states that in any thread in which an argument occurs, if it runs for a long time, somebody will mention Nazis or Hitler, etc, at which point the thread will spontaneously self destruct. This probably doesn't make much sense, but that's because I'm explaining it all wrong, and when I first read it it made a lot more sense. Also t

I don't think you have to log in to download most things from this site, just to rate, comment and use the message board, which is fair enough. I highly doubt that WC would sell our email addresses to evil marketing types, anyway, that's what hotmail accounts are for.

Well, that's kind of an interesting question for me. I usually decide first that something has to be done, either I'm responsible for getting a job done for a client, or I'm just bored with my current theme and want to make something new. Then I'll mumble and curse for a few weeks about how stupid everything is, occasionally stopping to make a half assed attempt at something only to scrap it after 10 minutes. Eventually I'll quit the complaining and just sit down and do it. Van Gogh used to drin

Doubt it, ODN is owned by Stardock, and though Wincustomize is funded at least in part by Stardock, I think that Frogboy means that the proceeds will go towards this site, which is not technically owned by Stardock, at least insofar as I understand.

Hoverboy and I are pretty much at opposite ends of the spectrum on this one, insofar as he loves XP and I hate it. If you read both of our opinions, you will probably find a balanced view somewhere in the middle, but bear in mind that we are both going on our own experiences with the new OS. Of course, as I've said before, I can't think of a single reason that anyone running 2k with an OD subscription would want to upgrade unless they want to play old DOS games, and the only ones of those I can
