I just think it's interesting how these 3 rival games have such large discrepancies in player bases. I'm not pointing it out because I'm here to advertise the other games
Answer is simple: Borderlands Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Dragon's Age (and soon, L4D2)
That doesn't explain why Demigod's competitors still have over 20,000 concurrent players online each.

I'd pay for more demigods, but not maps - even though I want more maps the most. The reason for that is that I don't want to segregate myself from people who don't buy the content. If there was an optional set of maps to buy, you'd split up the already not-so-massive community. That all said, I really prefer package deals. I'd much rather shell out $15 for a set of "premium content", than nickle'n'diming for individual little bits and bobs. And yes, 3v3 maps is definit

For me, it's just the amount of labour involved in getting a stable game going. I could boot up Demigod and spend 5-10 minutes in a lobby to take my chances at ending up with someone who has their torrent on, -2 simspeed, or crashes/disconnects after 20 minutes - or I could boot up Legends or Newerth, join one of the hundreds of games starting up, and have disconnects/lag be virtually no issue at all. I know that most (or all) of Demigod's network performance problems come from the players, b

I bought this game for my friend so we could play together, and it's a bit irritating to have people throw a fit every time they uncover our 'secret' by looking at the player info. The real kicker is that we're both relatively new to the game. We have around 30 combined games played (albeit with a high win rate), but people with 500-1000 games will blame "people like us" for being the reason this game has so few players. The game just isn't as fun in skirmish mode, at least wi

I enjoy all 3 and have a hard time "picking" one. While I enjoy the pacing of Demigod the most, I feel one of the innate 'flaws' with it is the sky high production value of it's units. It's (understandably) taking them months to come up with 2 more units for DG, where as in the other games it's a much quicker process, partly due to the simpler graphics. One of the aspects I like with the dota (or "moba" as some are trying to coin it) genre is the silly amount of weird and crazy units.

My favourite speed item is wand of speed, which gives you a temporary +25% buff. I like it because you only need speed in certain situations, and it doesn't take up an armor slot. And yeah, the boots mentioned above has a 5% chance on hit to give a +50% runspeed buff. This procs pretty reliably when fighting if you have reinforcements hitting you. I've heard there's a speed cap but I don't know what it is. I'm sure wand of speed plus the +50% from the boots would get you somew

Players not responding to chat when you're directly addressing them - even when the on-screen chat is the only focus and the only thing that's moving - is something that has baffled me since the dawn of internet. It's not the fact that it happens in the first place that gets me - sometimes we're talking to someone out of game, we're not looking, or we go paint the garage - but how frequently it happens. Before I boot someone (not for re

Premades have been around since the dawn of internet, and probably before that in one form or another. In Starcraft, I started taking it for granted that a "NOOBS ONLY" game with 3/6 players in it were premades. And yeah it's a problem in HoN as well. What's especially cheesy there is that there is a mechanic in the game to allow for noobs only games, and people actually repeatedly create new accounts (the beta keys are really easy to get) in order to pubstomp in them.

Reinforcements are consistent for both sides. Minions are exclusive to generals. If minions gave xp and gold, the team with the most generals would be at an innate disadvantage. An Erebus or Oak planting his flag would be a boost to the opposing team, as it's difficult to micro your new minions the instant they spawn in order to prevent them from dying. I also feel minions are perfectly viable as cannon fodder or soakers, and making them be rewarding to kill would remove that

The way she manages to draw "obvious" paralells between zerg's economy and the female orgasm reminds me of my 8 year old nephew pointing at anything remotely elongated and going "LOL A PENIS".

It gets frustrating when people leave 5 minutes into the match because they (or one of their teammates) died. I know for a fact that a lot of people out there will leave at the very first sign of resistance, as anything but a 100% guaranteed win is a waste of time for them. I've even seen p

Completely agree. Well, not that I feel offended or upset by them, but how they aren't going to help one bit. If anything, I can imagine people more likely to go "those ads are so gay LOL" than to be any sort of a wakeup call. These ads are about as effective as the "school is cool" type stuff way back when. It only made school less cool.

Hammer slam is pretty tricky to use against Erebus if he has half a clue. You have to rely on him wasting his batswarm *and* mist with feints, and even then it's pretty sketchy if you manage to lead him correctly with it.

I just came up against 2 minion erebuses (erebii?), and tried the parasite egg. It's definitely useless. The first thing they do is batswarm away, and I'm sure mist form would be helpful as well. Even if I catch up to them, it's a game of cat and mouse where I get maybe 2-3 hits in as their minions beat me up. I also seemed to have some issues with casting it, and I'm positive it was recharged and in range. Half of the time my character would walk up to erebus upon giving the

Send a small army to take down tower, ignore them. Then go and help your teamate DG on the other side of the map with healing. So its like 2 battles at once. Like someone already mentioned, using datamines/statistics alone to balance a game could be even more artificial than balancing it 'traditionally'. Sure, datamining can be very helpful as a supplement, but because people use Pounce more often than Silence, does not mean that Silence needs a buff. If everyone used Snipe as an opener rather than a finisher, it would not mean it is a bad skill. I think it's fine that the DG's have different ratios of being played, and even differ

I agree that the later upgrades for some stuff just seems way too expensive for what it does. I especially don't get those death penalty ones. Paying almost ten thousand darrahs because they are planning on dying and want to respawn just a few seconds earlier doesn't sound like the most awesome plan. The tower upgrades feel irrelevant late game (and prohibitievly expensive early/mid game) with how fast they go down anyway. I could see the creep upgrades being decent if you have catas

I think DoW1 and Supcom have had me tearing my hair out the most. Haven't noticed it heaps in DG yet, except for when you tell them to round a corner and they sometimes snag on the edges.

Isn't the type of potion that drops random, though? At first I thought generals dropped mana and assassins dropped health, but this doesn't seem to be the case. I'd be willing to argue that you often require one more than the other, and it's random and luck based whether the correct type drops.
