Excellent write up! To chime in and help other folks out with computer hardware, I just did a heavy run on the game for 30 minutes. Myself and 5 other NPC's. We each had about 100-150 units active. Heavy mix of each tier of ground and air forces. Graphics Options: DX12 version running at
Im sure all this will be added in time. Remeber the game is hardly a skeleton right now

Sounds good to me. I hope you guys make a big post about air units later on when the game is more stable. Those unit in particular are going to need alot of changes :D I know coding AI is very hard take your time and do it right guys :D
redviper37, Can you enumerate what exactly you do on your PC? Be as specific as possible, the more that I know the better keyboard and mouse I can suggest. This is an area that I actually know quite a bit about :D Does it HAVE to ergonomic? How serious of a gamer are you and what games do you tend to play? Do you have a claw or palm grip? Heavy mouse, light mouse, or you don't know? Is customization of software for
The goal is to have 7 difficulty levels with the middle one being the one that provides a challenge to the people in the middle of the bell curve of skill. When we get into late beta (let long after leaving ALPHA) we will start o decide where that is.
Do you think you could comment about planned improvements to the AI? Just asking for general information, nothing crazy specific. &nb
dcndnts, I also have experienced this. But if you manually click the cancel button on your UI with your mouse it should cancel. Seems hotkeys don't work right now.
Does it resume if you equalize?
I've also seen that if you stall metal, nothing gets built anymore. As in, not even at a crawl. Literally, all production 100% stops. Have yet to be able to see if production resumes when you stop stalling because the game is lacking in pause/cancel buttons :D
Just a suggestion mate :)
Wanted to add on here that the game Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of influence uses a "block" mechanic that I once suggested here. When you zoomed out far enough, your units (which in this game consisted of several hundred to several thousands men), became blocks as would be shown on a military map. Works nicely because the game won't tell you what kind of enemy you are facing unless you have direct intel, so if you have no intel, you just see enemy blocks.
Thanks Frogboy! Oh I also wanted to mention that I really like that you guys are planning to add more contrast to the UI. Right now it's all to similar and the colors of the game and the UI to blend to well together. I like what is planned and I can't wait to see it to give suggestions to tweak it further (nothing can ever be perfect xD)!!
Looks good! Will the update include any crash fixes?
Great thanks!
Does the game have auto crash reporting? Ever since the new patch I can't play more than about 15 minutes before a CTD. I've played different maps, changed settings, always a CTD around 15 minutes. Just want to know that if I crash you guys get a report?
I can absolutely see that! Currently I just slug my way through the AI. While I certainly have yet to see meta units that large fight each other, I have formed 250 ish meta units (ok I don't know the actual unit count, but the meta unit spanned several inches from max zoom out) before. Unfortunately I've never seen even the AI create anything near that large. I have seen the AI essentially make a huge number of units, and use all these units as one army, but th
Quoting eviator, reply 1 Retreat is hard enough now, this will make it impossible. Good point - most implementations of this that I've seen have been accompanied by a 'move in reverse' button/hotkey, i.e. right-clicking while holding a
Yes, this worked very well in Wargame and CoH because of the small scale and tactical focus of the gameplay. Ashes is much larger in scale and seems to be more focused on strategic gameplay. I do think this would be a nice mechanic, but I'll copy and paste a paragraph from that massive reply I made to the August FAQ topic lol " You have to keep in mind, that if 500 brutes attack 500 brutes, it's not a 500 v 500 battle. It's only the front lines
Yes much agreed tatsujb. I think the group mechanic is over complicating the issues HateDread. This is essentially what R.U.S.E did with all units. It worked very well there since all units used it, but it would see rather.. off.. if it was just used for engineers. Again, I want to stress that you will only ever have so many engineers, and a good chunk will just be assisting factories. It's already very clear that you don't need hundred
It would not be to much at all. I mean the devs are pretty clear about not never placing icons on units or buildings. There's no problem having 20-60 ish engineers icons on the map. Especially because they are arguably the most important unit in the game. Remember, this game doesn't have the need for engy spam like FAF does. Even on the large maps, I think I was only using 40-50 engineers, and most of them were just assisting factories (so you forget ab
I want to expand on this as well but I can't right now because I just don't think the game is enough there to make any significant contributions. I will say this, I really like the idea of units giving other units a buff in a meta unit. However, there is one problem with this. If all units give buffs, then I feel it will always be in your best interest to create a mixed meta unit. Meaning, you will always be better off just mixing at least 1 of
Yes I'm not keen on using f1 either. Because I have no idea where the game is going to jump me to. I think it would be best if we got an additional button that selects any idle engineer that is currently on your screen. Also, a button to select ALL idle engineers on your screen. Although i'm still a proponent of having engineer icons on every single engineer :)
Eviator Well this is a topic we are all clearly passionate about so heated discussions are a given haha! But I've noticed this forum sometimes turns into my work place where everyone is yelling and arguing and at the end of the day only a tenth of what could have been done gets done haha. Good point ASSADF
That makes me so happy! I've always wanted a game like this where expansion is nearly forced.
