Well, I went ahead and did an Alliance victory. It reporter 1305 "MPts" on the Overview (which I assume means Metaverse Points, but the Metaverse upload screen reported 652 points. I notice, though, that the parameters on the later screen are wrong. All races are reportered as "Sub-normal", and the difficult level as "Suicidal". Is there a bug or three in 1.03? :p ~SDC~

Click on the portrait of the Ambassador on the racial setup screen. First click shows the bio, the second disables the race. ~SDC~
Actually, Wendy, that one doesn't bother me. I see it just fine. But then, I was trained on the OS/2 version and it's like riding a bicycle. ;) ~SDC~
So what's constant between galaxy sizes, the total number of Resources, vice the number of each? (From memory, there's 6 Tech, 3 Morale, 2 or 3 Econ, and maybe 4 Culture. Again, Gigantic.) ~SDC~
>> The problem is that now that he has accurately assessed the true value of that resource...he won't actually exploit it. I RARELY have ever seen the AI bulk up a starbase to the maximum mining potential their tech will allow. I'm sitting on starbases that are +40-50% mining, and they're at +15% I did find that the Drenghin in the game i'm playing now have maxed their two(?) military resources. Fortunately I have three now (how many in a Gigantic universe?) so I've been able to c
One of my pet peeves is that when you launch a starship from a planet and go back the the main map to send it somewhere IT DOESN'T HAVE FOCUS (or isn't "the active position" or whatever the little segmented circle means) and I end up sending some totally unrelated position off to where it doesn't belong. I did that with a Terror Star once and boy was I mad! When I launch a ship, give it focus! ~SDC~
>> 3) Gigantic galaxies are unbalanced. Suggestion - give penalty to metaverse score for gigantic(and maybe huge too). You wanna justify that outrageous statement? :( ~SDC~
There was a proposal before UP to charge for colonized worlds in a sector some other race 'owned'. What determines sector ownership? The sector influence score? ~SDC~
You mean, I shouldn't be able to steal HyperWarp? What's the point of defeating a 'saintly' race, then? :d ~SDC~
It's 2218 and I have several different paths to victory. I coul propose Alliance to my brother Drenghin or simply continue on to god-like status technological heights. I'm at 83% Influence, so that's doable. And I could probably win a shooting war. Which way to go for maximum points? Quickest win? Biggest difference (if any) between races at the end? ~SDC~
The original GalCiv (OS/2) had override sliders on each world. Let you dedicate worlds by purpose. E.g. that massive Class 34 Omega Research world wouldn't have to spend 33% of it's output on starships. Word is that Stardock plans to re-introduce them. I look forward to it. :CONGRAT: ~SDC~
Interesting cheat. :d Have you looked inside the FOW file? Tried it on same size, different density? Seems like it ought not work on a different galaxy. Unless it uses reverse logic (i.e. "all the listed items are hidden"). ~SDC~
>> Destroy enemy trade routes to prevent them from establishing close relations with other empires! Uh... what? Doesn't the AI consider that an act of war? ;p ~SDC~
Okay, I get the no diagonals bit. The bonus is applied whenever a trade ship is actually in the SB sector, so you want to maximize the number of route squares in the sector (a perfect diagonal does it too). But doesn't that severely limit the target systems? Doesn't the quality of the terminal system make a major difference to the yield of the route? Say e.g. I can go to the home system with 4 class 30 worlds albeit on a 60% diagonal, v. a mediocre system with 2 class 18 worlds on
On your Domestic Policy screen, note the tabs across the bottom. Select the Trade tab. :CONGRAT: ~SDC~
My bad. I found the W key in the quicktour. I guess I was looking at the table in the "User Manual". ~SDC~
>> You also want the minor to be in a sector that has the same x or y value as your destination, as diagonal trade routes can't be boosted as efficiently. Could you explain that, please? ~SDC~
I like to use at least a low level of espionage, but something isn't right. The stats you see (I'm assuming you have a High or Advanced penetration) don't jibe with the other reports. For instance, I keep a treasury of *15,000. The pie chart, the ratings, etc all tell me that I'm 2nd in the galaxy in terms of Treasury. But then I look at the stats and they're way different. It says the Drenghin treasury is 1/10 mine. Likewise revenue and expenditures are significantly less alth
There's one system I want. Don't want to wait for Cultural shift to work. I'm far ahead of the race. I offered it every trade good and tech I had, then started throwing in ships and money just to see what the threshhold was. There wasn't any. (I didn't offer Systems or Starbases.) I've thried threats, too. Is there an AI fiat to never sell or give up a system, short of conquest? ~SDC~
Not all that much. Maybe 10% total. I really only harvested the systems where Morale went below 30%. On replays the events occur differently so it's hard to recreate that situation. Maybe I was pushing too hard on taxes (~50%) for too long. Bottom line is, NEVER GO NEGATIVE. :sniff!: ~SDC~
You've got the chronology totally fubar. The recession hit. I didn't notice. I went into debt like -900 before noticing. At which point spending goes to zero, where only the obligations are paid until the treasury gets back over a certain level. Of course Morale immediately went to hell, which is why I siphoned off population to keep the systems from revolting. The observation about only certain races being affected was completely circumstantial. It could have been alignment-re
Jeez, Z_Ha, you think I'm a complete moron? If you're not *producing* above your maintenance level, then *any* spending is just plunging you back into debt, at which point you lose all control over your rates. ~SDC~
I was displaying Production on the Map. The good guys' blips stayed big. I went back and played it from a saved game. Twice. I eventually was able to get the economy back. The biggest problem was going negative. So long as the recession continued and I kept taxes up, I was unable to restore spending. Once I dropped taxes to about 35% (I was running 48-50%) and the recession ended I was able to get spending back up.
Also, no one has answered the question, "Are there any other UNDOCUMENTED KEYS ??" The 'W' key is undocumented.
