I recently attacked the Drenghin. It was late in the game and they had been fighting the whole time so their ships were aready spread all over the universe. Thus no surge. But in the first post-attack turn they did not move. Anything. I wasn't pre-staged, but I was able to move twice and they mos' def' were not the better for it. ~SDC~

If you notice, behind each Level label there is a progress bar. It creeps up whenever you add points; at 100% you add a level and the bar drops back to the % of the next level. By watching carefully it may be able to extrapolate the level values. Eg. it looks like Level 2 is about 50% more points than Level 1, based on the bar. And levels are definitely class-dependent. 290 point on a Battle Ax is Level 8, but on an Overlord that's just an Avatar snack. I have an Excalibur that's

Two questions: 1) how they are obtained 2) what they are good for I see the levels going up, apparently adding points equal to the sum of (late, unmourned) defender AF+DF. But while I thought the level was a multiple of the ship's HPs, it doesn't seem to be so. How are points applied to determine Level? What's the effect of a Level? I don't see the AF, DF, or HP changing. Does it affect combat? Maybe an unseen % to Hit modifier? :notsure: ~SDC

One enhancement that would be of major use to me is to make the Planets panel shorter so I can get to the ships in orbit while the list is displayed. I often peruse Planets list to see who's building what and to check morale. But if I want to launch a Transport (something I very often do to regulate world morale), I have to exit the Planet list, find the system, launch, then go back to the Planet list. Not what I would call ergonomically sound. :( ~SDC~

I built a Terror Star in a galaxy with string opponents and wasn't attacked. I don't use it for blowing up stars (although I think I should be able to blow up unoccupied stars just to fuel my evil power trip fantasies) - I drive it by an alien system which magically defects without me saying a word. :d ~SDC~

No, it pounded my Sensor Drones pretty good in the next turn. LOL But something else happened. It printed bc! On the 1st war turn it was hit hard by the dusruption in trade. Dropped negative about 2000bc and of course spending went to nothing. But the *2nd* war turn spending was back to normal, even with similar pre-war Tech spending!, and it suddenly had 3000bc in the bank. That's a swing of nearly 5000bc with the AI not in control of it's own spending! I thought m

I like AMMs as they are. Yes they are powerful in attack (although I just had one with 400 AFs bounce off a Dreadnaught) but they are slow and completely vulnerable to light ships. Worst of all, they go away . If you consider them unbalancing, lobby for an AI mod that makes it understand how to counter them. ~SDC~

More likely the game is keeping a weighted rolling average of taxes, and reacting accordingly. You eliminate them totally and affect the average enough to win. What's your normal tax rate? ~SDC~

I loved Space: Above and Beyond from the very first scene where the DI (a real DI - can't remember his name, but he was in the first half of Full Metal Jacket, and now does Mail Call) 'welcomed' them to Space Marines. As shi##y as the timeslot Firefly got, SAAB got something like 8 different shi##y timeslots. >:( In a way it's surprising it lasted as long as it did. I'd buy the DVD in a minute, if there was one. (There will be a Firefly DVD!) Too bad we can't rename the Dr

I'm testing several different conclusions to a Gigantic universe game. It's late in the game; there is only one other race left (Drenghin). Terrans are ahead in tech, but economies and military power are about the same. I went through the Alliance win. Boring. ;) Now I'm trying the 'conquest' option. Because the evil bastards had been fighting two races on the other side of my space, there are Drenghin Dreads all over my space. I attacked first and killed many

StarHawks do have a use. In large galaxies there are a LOT of anomalies out there. Build 2-4 StarHawks and turn them loose to wander the galaxy. The will accumulate so many points they will become your strongest ships. In a war you can then park them in orbit of the most at-risk worlds, and the AI can attack all it wants, but it won't breach those defenses. (Well, a half-dozen Avatars maybe, but I'd say that's fair value.) I've always liked Battle Hammers, but didn't they have more
The AI threads are less processor intensive because they're just doing calculations. The main thread has to worry about painting, saving, etc.
Are you confirming that the AI threads are process-level (and thus able to run on other processors)? If so and they're CPU-intensive ("because they're ... doing calculations"), then they must be throttled. ~SDC~

I got two good systems from the AI. Beat up on two allied Saints, then demanded the best system of each for peace. Each one rendered and got peace. (One then voluntarily surrendered to me within a year. It's good the have culture.) ~SDC~

1.03 bugs: 1) On completion, the 'Overview' screen shows a summary in terms of 'MPts'. I assume this means 'Metaverse Points' but can't find an explanation anywhere. 2) The total points listed for Terrans on the Overview screen (eg. 1305) is not the total that appears on the Metaverse screen (eg. 652). Interestingly, it looks as if the number of points that it offers to send to the Metaverse is 1/2 the total displayed on the Overview. 3) On the Metaverse screen, the
