I had just purchased a constructor and hit "turn" when: Stardock SmartException Logging Information ------------------------------------------- OS Version : Windows XP Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 Application Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION Crash Addr: 00406052 01:00005052 C:\PROGRA~1\Drengin.net\galciv\galciv.exe Processor Registers (x86): EAX:00BFFB6C EBX:7FFDF000 ECX:CDCDCE47 EDX:0D9BB610 ESI:80000002 EDI:

This was the minor race that revolted from them. I might have gotten the name wrong. Anyway, my saved game is now hosed--I get a bright red screen, names like "test string" in the diplomacy screen, no map, etc. I'm gonna save it in a zip file in case anyone wants it. -Robert

Same basic situation--talked to a minor race, next thing I did popped me to the desktop: Stardock SmartException Logging Information ------------------------------------------- OS Version : Windows XP Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 Application Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION Crash Addr: 0055DF4B 01:0015CF4B C:\PROGRA~1\Drengin.net\galciv\galciv.exe Processor Registers (x86): EAX:00BFB546 EBX:00000000 ECX:00000000 EDX:7

I think between 3 and 3A they made it a little harder, but in one game, I've seen a race losing a war surrender to me rather than their attacker (and because I was ready I got all their resources!) and later their attacker suffer revolution of nearly all their planets in my territory. Most of their remaining planets are at an extremely low morale in spite of their owning at least one morale galactic resource, which reduces their military productivity (my biggest peeve with them) which helps me s

Another manifestation of this seems be that you can buy out the biggest military civ's entire military in return for a single tech like "reinforced hulls", which just doesn't sound like a trade I would make--not because maybe "reinforced hulls" don't seem to be quite as valuable as that, but because there is a definite strategic downside to giving a rival all your transports AND defenders at the same time! I do notice that constructors are not for sale making it hard to "steal" galactic

The music is nice and all, but by the 1200th repetition it can start to grate--I know I can turn it off, but it would be nice if just played for while then petered out until some event occurs. For reference, I think the use of music in Mech Commander 2 is nice--it comes up once in a while to signal impending battle and so on, but then it fades out again until something else happens. -Robert

Admiral C--don't feel bad: I just spent a couple of hours today fixing something I broke by fixing something else--and of course the client spotted the problem before I did. Citizen N--Brad pointed out in another thread that this was a bug. I don't know its status in Beta 3A. With me it's been the Drengins starting wars and pulling me in. For now, just saying no has no bad consequences. -Robert

No, I am afraid I do not. If I run into it again, I will be sure to zap it over to you. (Just promise not to laugh at me for the silly names I gave all the aliens--it was fun for a while to see "We are the mighty Poopy-heads!" pop up. ;)). By the way, since I can unload SmartException, it obviously won't mess with my own use of Visual Studio. It's too bad .Net doesn't work with DirectX yet--it would save you guys a lot of this debugging grief. -Robert

Ah, but you know how the game is supposed to work! :) I am just bumbling along figuring it out. I'm not worried about it--someday you guys will have time to write strategy guides. But I know I had a pretty good start in a large galaxy before I decided to go ahead and download the multimedia stuff. I then had a bad game in a medium galaxy, a couple of worse games in a small galaxy (low morale, revolution!) and I am currently on my way to a cultural win in a large galaxy! By the

Actually, there doesn't seem to be a penalty if you tell your ally to f*** off--I mean, click "no". They just drop back to "Friendly." So, since there's no penalty, I guess it's not so bad to have people watching your back, except that nobody wants to ally with the puny and weak. :) (I guess--maybe really "good" races do.) By the way, it would be nice if there was a way to protect the minor races. Maybe if you're good enough you'd be obligated to, or maybe you could explicitly "announc

Just two: New: Sometimes after movement I cannot select another portion of the galaxy to view. It goes there, but it snaps right back. Pretty rare. Old: The inaccessible lower right hand corner bug is still there. I have seen it quite early in games this time. That is, targeting the space down and to the right from a star system is the same as targeting the system itself, even if an anomaly is sitting there, which means that it is inaccessible. Something I seem to have

In the diplomacy screen, when you talk to a race, you can doubleclick something to offer and doubleclick what you want. If the text describing the trade is green, you'll get it (though you want to play around with combinations to get the best deal), if the text is yellow, the other race doesn't consider your proposal a fair trade. It is the same with peace treaties, alliances, etc. To un-offer something, doubleclick it in the box (one at the bottom of each side of the screen) to remove
