It maxes about 600+ in the center of my territory to 60+ in the furthest sectors that are still blue. -Robert

Jack, thanks for the tips. I thought I had pretty much mastered the economy thing and in fact had no problems with it until after I started again from the saved game. As far as adjusting spending goes, if I I'm in a good groove and see the treasury growing too fast, I try reducing taxes, click the "economy" tab to see the actual effect, then try raising spending to see if I can get away with it. As far as resources go, my priority list is something like 1. Morale, 2. M
Whoops, almost forgot: my morale now ranges from 0-16. -Robert
My treasury when it started to drop was in the mid-hundreds (I try to adjust spending up regularly to avoid letting the treasury get too big). I did have an event that dropped me into negative territory but I had come back out of that. I did exit the program at one point and later started from the saved game and noticed that my treasury was losing money instead of gaining. After it fell into negative, it went back and forth as I adjusted spending down, taxes up, but it finally fell to t
I've been on the other side of the stuck in a corner situation, but I don't think it's a bug as much as just what happens sometime. -Robert
Since I started mining my first morale resource, found two more and got them all up the hypermining level, my morale has been steadily eroding, picking up speed on its way down. My economy was going great but has been dragged down by the dropping morale. Have I possibly been doing something else wrong or is there a bug somewhere? This certainly didn't happen in a couple of previous 3E games. -Robert
The point of XML is that you don't have to hand parse it--XML parsing tools and built-in XML serialization features mean that you can quickly read object state data in and out without writing your own field-at-time input/output code. In .Net, you can serialize objects to XML practically without writing any code at all! And if you think about it, a text database is exactly what you want. And XML is not really going to be any slower than any other method of reading and writing info to and from the
That smiley should have been LOL . -Robert
I see that you can select a ship without cancelling its autopilot from the ship list, so why not just make that the default? That is, when you select a ship, the autopitlot just doesn't get cancelled. Maybe it stops, but if you don't change the destination, it will continue on eventually. The ship list idea is nice--what I think eSnaffu might be getting at is something like a colored square around a ship's destination sector (or something finer-grained like a little circle) on the minim
The unreachable resource bug is still in this one. To simulate it, fake up a map with lots of resources locally. Only build constructors and use them to build on these resources. After the militarily superior races attack you and destroy your starbases, try to rebuild on those resources. At least one or two are almost guaranteed to be unreachable. -Robert
Hmmm, and after the Tor surrendered, a minor race took their name (probably a scorpion-looked like a shrimp on a plate against a star :) ). The minor races tab reported all minor races dead even though those shrimp guys were everywhere. The stuck view after turn bug is still around (when you attempt to change what portion of the map you are viewing it snaps back after you let go of the mouse). Also, after being given some ships by one race after having war declared on me by another, the
I've been wondering how the results for the other parties are determined. -Robert
There seems to be confusion among the AIs and minor races--I was being attacked by the Arcaens, but a minor race helping me kept calling them pirates (before any pirate notices appeared). Later under the minor races tab I could see the Alterian's logo. Clicking on it crashed to desktop. -Robert
I'd really like a way to select a ship without resetting its autopilot. Perhaps via right-click? -Robert
This still happens in 3D. -Robert
By the way, the Bradians are the only minor race left in a game I'm playing but the Minor Races tab pops up the "all the minor races are dead" dialog. -Robert
Do they have any special meaning or properties or are they just for visual interest? -Robert
Well, you can start a war, but what if you could step in and force a peace (and risk getting all shot up by both sides if your attempt fails, by the way), or negotiate peace between two parties (a common feature request) and increase your "goodness", too. By the way, is there a way to see the actual morality number now that the stats page just shows "Neutral", etc.? -Robert
Well, I know a little bit about stuff like pseudo vs. "real" random number generators and their various applications, but I've never run across that particular distinction before, so I guess, yes, it would surprise me! Is that out of computer science or math or ...? However, the bunching I've been seeing couldn't be attributable to the occasional repeated number (you meant consecutively or, in relation to this problem, nearly consecutively, right?) unless the generator is patho
I've been thinking that it would be nice if there were things you could to make yourself actively more evil or actively more good. I know your morality affects what can be researched, but perhaps there can be marked research paths that affect your morality (leaving aside the whole "science is neither good or evil" argument). That is, instead of just being reactively good or evil, I'd like to be pro-actively good or evil. In particular, it seems like there are actions that make you more
Midnight--interesting (perhaps unconscious) correlation there--"right" = "evil" (or do I you backwards?) LOL -Robert
Like the others mentioned, these were all bunched *really* close together--not more than a couple of turns between seeing an event once and seeing it again one or two more times. From my own programming experience, I would guess something is awry with the random number generator or something is not getting reset. -Robert
Well, the Game Manager updated and then there was an update for GalCiv (then the Game Manager updated again later). I haven't seen any additional GalCiv updates since then. I updated only a few hours before that post, if I remember correctly. I am definitely getting more crashes since 3B went up. Should I uninstall it and try a clean download? Thanks, -Robert
I abandoned that game and started another. Things are behaving more reasonably this time. -Robert
Well, it says Imperial, but in spite of an election approving the change and putting me back in charge (nice feature), the senate seats display didn't change from where it was the last election and then another election happened, putting my party further out of control. Elections should cease after switching back to Imperial, shouldn't they? And you know this, but ship movement is *really* hosed--I was sending a defender to a planet under attack and it decided to drop in on a different planet on
