I'm playing with two other major races and there are two minor races that I've encountered. However, when I look at who the two other major races are at war with, I get two that I have not met/received notice of: The Pirates (no pirate notices, no pirate ships; The Belua (not on the minor races screen--no planets as far as I can tell). -Robert

I wouldn't put too much faith in honey as an antibiotic--the reason you are warned not to give it to infants is that it actually harbors live bacteria that would be killed by washing, cooking, etc., that other foods go through and which can be fatal to children under one year of age, but which is harmless to adults. It is actually the bacteria that produces botulin, the toxin that causes botulism, but it is the toxin that makes you sick, not the bacteria itself. Oh, and of course, you g

I forget the order, but I got both the recession and the opposite in one game, nearly one right after the other. Look out when that economic boom ends--you better react quick to adjust spending and taxes or face some suddenly huge deficits. -Robert
The 95% thing is not new--it just used to stop at 100%. Wasn't there a thread from Brad requesting last minute new feature suggestions? I can't seem to find it now, but there (and previously) I've suggested that the trade screen minimap highlight sectors instead of drawing lines with either a simple number or different intensities of highlight to indicate the number of routes passing through a sector. -Robert
I haven't seen the first bug, but there are two problems with the new behavior--1) sometimes the colony ship ends up on top of the star instead of next to it; and 2) there is no way to cancel a launch--I used to hit "next" or "done" as a way of cancelling a colony ship launch I decided not to go ahead with. Now you can't back out. -Robert

I have actually seen the AIs react to both pirates and the space shark. Undo would be great--perhaps a way to jump back to the start of the turn? -Robert
As I posted elsewhere, I couldn't get a minor civ to trade a planet for love or money, but they would trade *both* of their planets for a song. I have to admit, I went ahead and did it, but I never benefitted from my ill-gotten gains: a version upgrade made that game unfinishable. -Robert

Chill, Smiley, he meant the first ("original") message ("post") of this thread (the top of the page): "SE can be found at www.stardock.com/temp/smartexception_galciv.exe" To answer some of your questions: 1) There are pop-ups that occur when one is built, but no lookup. 2) Y'now, I've never actually double-clicked on one--I'll have to try that. Of course, all ship/starbase popups have formatting problems, especially with the description text at the top. Context-sensiti

Whoops, remove "tend to vote" after "to vote" for that second sentence. Re-reading some of the above discussion suggests to me that if you lose a couple of senatorial elections and are subsequently voted personally out of office, an AI would take over, representing another party's leader and you have to watch the AI destroy all your hard work (or prove you wrong by fixing all your problems) until you are voted back into office and can take over the game again. Of course, what if you are
Note that in the history of U.S. politics, presidents rarely control both houses of congress. People who belong to the party opposite the president's are often more motivated to vote tend to vote the for congress members in the opposite party to counter the president's power. Recent events would seem to contradict this trend, but keep in mind how close the count is still in both houses. I think the game captures the penalties pretty well--after all, the world doesn't end when a
Wow! On my relatively slow machine (P3-550) I'm sailing along on gigantic and I didn't even notice that Norton started a disk scan in the background, which previously has brought the game to a halt. Two playability issues: maybe post 1.0, but the biggest annoyance for me is being shown something happening and then being whipped on to the next thing without being able to respond. Some of these are bugs, like defecting planets popping up when you are about to choose the next technology (s
I've heard people complain that minor civs trade away all their planets too easily. I've found a bug that may go towards explaining that. I started talking to a minor civ with two planets to see if I could trade for one of them. When got to everything I could trade, the text stayed yellow. If I switched which planet I was asking for, still yellow. But if I asked for both planets, everything went green and the trade went through! Hopefully, this will help you pinpoint the problem. <b

I can't remember if I started this in 4 or 4A, but I've definitely loaded it a couple of times in 4A without problems. It loads, I dismiss the "story so far..." dialog, I get an election dialog, win. On this load and my first try, I get a "We built..." dialog with a blank first entry, and a constructor build in the second entry. When I hit okay, it CTDs. One other time, it CTD'd when I hit okay after the election. Stardock SmartException Logging Information -------------------------

I think an unexpected hitpoint bonus is happening somewhere well before you get to Tri-Strontium. I have noticed this in multiple recent games myself and haven't pinpointed exactly what is causing it. I have been assuming all is well and I just haven't been paying attention. :) -Robert
Besides the previously mentioned confusion over whether the Economic "Trade Center" is installed or not, the new resource mining modules seem to "pre-install" ultra-mining making it impossible to add and don't show up when you double-click a starbase, though a non-installed cultural update does show up. I have no idea how this is actually effecting things like trade and resource mining bonuses. I assume that if something shows up as already installed when it was not that you are not get
To ammend my comments slightly--I will play the biggest galaxy you give me in spite of performance. Maybe its an inadequacy thing, I dunno: my feet are plenty big. -Robert
I am running GalCiv on a P3 550. Performance has much improved, but turns, especially later in the game, do take "uncomfortably" long. Generally, what I'd like to do that I can't do now is hit the turn button and Alt-Tab away to other things. Windows seems to start to respond by putting up a reduced-size task bar, but the resolution doesn't switch back up to my normal desktop resolution nor is the display cleared until the turn processing is over. This might just mean that I ne
Africa and Madagascar, oriented correctly, are visible in the freighter animation. -Robert
As far as modules go, when you already have "Basic" and "Advanced Trading Post" and you are updating that starbase with a constructor, a third choice shows up "Trade Center" (I think) which shows as already installed (so you can't choose it), but which of course doesn't show up on the starbase's status screen. I wonder if this could this be one of those "old file" problems--I've never done a clean re-install, though I have the updated .exe. -Robert
