This is 1.01a.009 to 1.01a.011. The error message was a little odd: "There was an error installing Windowed version. Result: Success" Here is an excerpt from the install log: -- [Installation] --------------------------------------------------- Downloading: C:\PROGRA~1\Stardock\data\public\gc1\beta\gc1_windowed.xml Result: Success Loading: C:\PROGRA~1\Stardock\data\public\gc1\beta\gc1_windowed.xml Result: Success Loading: C:\PROGRA~1\Stardock\inst

That can be confusing because it sounds like instructions, but has nothing to do with what you have to do: When you click on one of these ships, the in-range area shows up on the mini-map even if the ship itself is not within any of those areas. You can send it to any of those in-range areas, no matter how far. This also allows a trick that allows you to explore (for sensing purposes) areas out of range if they lay between two in-range areas. -Robert ~SDC~

Yes, and perhaps one way to implement that would be different kinds of alliances. For instance, you can ally to share certain branches or sets of technologies; or you can ally militarily or for mutual protection. And a military alliance would have your partner(s) proposing to you to start a war against somebody or you proposing to them to start a war and you both have to agree. Or you can ally to share different kinds of galactic resources (so an alliance to share your morale r

It bothers me that I've never played a game where some race doesn't go after military superiority in a big way and where that race doesn't *always" choose to attack the militarily weakest races right off the bat. Unless I am just playing wrong and don't know it, I'd prefer a game where the alien's choice of what kind of end-game to pursue is not automatically a military one first and foremost. Certainly they should keep track of what's going on and try to keep up, but that doesn't neces

I am seeing multiple entries in the military list on the planet screen. It seems to show the list, then it flickers and the order changes. Some things are in twice, but not contiguous, others are listed twice together (e.g., "Star Fighter, Star Fighter"). -Robert

Cari-thank you for inquiring. I was certainly at war with various races and that is probably part of what I was seeing, it's just something I'd never noticed before. Not seeing the ships of minor races was probably what I was noticing. I wasn't aware of that restriction. I imagine it is stop us buying up all their colony ships? -Robert

Well, that wasn't totally wasted was it? That one planet got an increased class (I haven't come across that event, so I may misunderstand). However, I've seen things like a cease-fire vote when no one seems to be at war (though I don't always know what minor civs are up to). I've wondered whether that is really happening. That seems like a pointless thing for the UP to vote on if it doesn't apply. -Robert

I'd abandoned the game because it was going nowhere, but I was able to restore it from the autosave and still couldn't build. I sent another constructor to it and it just fails to make that last move over the resource, then it eventually falls out of autopilot. I saved it with a name and just reloaded it to make sure I still couldn't build. An odd thing happened: After I selected that game to reload, it CTD'd. So I loaded SmartException and tried again and it loaded fine. Anyway, it is

No, the domestic affairs screen where I start off adjusting taxation and spending and such and then move on to governor, etc. I was just idly clicking on each tab before I started the game and when I got to stats--bam. I could repeat this as often as I wanted starting a new game, so I've stayed away from that tab since then. I don't know if I can crash it now that I am into a game, but I can try it if you want. I seem to have all the multimedia files and they all play. I've only downloa
