I have not looked for a week, but the last time I checked, I was number nine on the Metavesre ladder. I have played the game for well over 500 hours. The details of the scoring system in GC III are still a (near complete) mystery to all players as evidenced by your post and the posts of many others. Stardock has never done much to clear up the mystery. I can offer clues, but still have no idea about the details. I was somewhere in the top twenty in GC I. &nbs

Two days ago, I won a diplomatic victory as the Snathi. Since the Snathi are not well liked by everyone, I thought this was a notable achievement. Steam did not think so, nor did Metaverse. My reward was only four points!!?? I have no credit on Steam for winning as the Snathi, even though Metaverse confirms the win. I can't send a saved file. I always play using only one save and am now ten hours into a new game which over-wrote the Snathi file. The
The low archer initiative has always bothered me, too. If the English archers at Agincourt had "Sorcerer King" initiative, they would never have fired off a shot before the French knights would have overrun them all. And if the Ranger hero is such a great leader, why can't he give orders to his archers when he has the commander ability? He should be able to tell the archers to use the six hex, area effect of fire shot to do some real damage, instead of a
This strategy guide is so informative. I was a bit skeptical at first, so I began on genius level. No problem. Game won on turn 62. I stepped up a level, again won around turn 65. At Godlike, I won on turn 72, and would have won earlier but the Drengins held out for a long time as the final race to "feel the force." ;-) For all these wins, I never scored more than 2 Metaverse points on any level. I always played on huge universes, using all major ra
I have a related metarealm question. I was #9 on the list in early November, 2015, with a score around 1,100,000. I didn't play again until v1.4 was released. After playing on an easy level with a low score last week, I found that I was now #29, with a total score in the 370,000s. I have continued to play, mostly on average or tough levels, (I can no longer win on insane) adding about 93,000 points, but am receiving almost no points on the metarealm leaderboard and
The "Bottle the SK in with Outposts Strategy" worked really well in v1.1 and v1.2 In v1.3 it works pretty well on normal, and sort of OK on hard, but I still cannot find a way to do this on insane. By the time I can send out maybe ten pioneers to make outposts and pop out an archer or two, and two or three paladins or similar strong units, the SK is on a roll. On insane, I have had not even a glimmer of success on larger maps, and can barely hold my on on the smaller
Thank you for the reply. I'll give that strategy a go the next time that I play and let you know how it goes in v1.3. Buffed Varda and buffed Xii were my "go-to" heroes for most of my games over the past six weeks but v1.3 took a lot of wind out of those two sails.
Insane level is truly insane after v1.3 hit the streets. Of the top 20 players on Metarealm, only one has posted a score on the insane level using version 1.3. I am number four on Metarealm, but doubt that I will make any further progress. No matter what I do (I have started five games on insane in the past two weeks and am totally destroyed before I am even at the mid-game) I cannot figure out how to win on this level anymore. Whether I choose t
I just finished the recently added 2nd campaign game...the insane sized map of the Milky Way galaxy. It is a very, very well done map and quite a challenge. You must play as the humans and all victory conditions are open. I usually play on gifted or genius level, but I had no idea what to expect from a campaign game, so I backed off to normal, especially since the only choice of race is the humans and I haven't played with them since my first two be
GalCivI's Metaverse was pretty good. It wasn't too difficult to figure out the scoring system. The scoring for any one game was capped at a certain level. No matter how fast you won a game, no matter how hard it was, the cap was (I think) 4000 points. Anyway, I made it to about #16 or 17 on the list of top total scores. GalCivII's Metaverse was much harder to figure out. You could also create opponents that would more-or-le
After a fortnight away from Fallen Enchantress, I came back. Before, there were just too many crashes. I always wanted to play through the ultra-large Anthrys map, but could never make it to even the one-third mark without the game crashing before a single turn was completed. Often, the game crashed as soon as it was loaded. This happened in v.13, v.14, and v.15b. My computer was top-of-the-line in 2012, so I just couldn't figure out why I could not c
In reference to reply #41 above, v1.4 was using 1,400MB of memory prior to each crash, Skyrim cruises along at 600-700Mb.
I have many similar crashes, often in v1.3, more in v1.4. The game plays well for a while, but by turn 200, it will crash about once every 5-6 turns, usually at the end of a turn, by turn 300, the crashes come every 2-3 turns, and sometimes in mid-turn, often after completion of a battle, but when other units are still available to move. By turn 450, the game crashes so often that I can't complete even a single turn. Another surprising thing that happens is when I go
X-COM...How could I forget that one. Original, brilliant, and opened a whole new genre of computer games.
After the long post above, I realized that I forgot to mention Morrowind and Oblivion. Both state-of-the art (and then some) at the time, and still able to hold interest years later. I just went back to Oblivion to complete the Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles add-ons. What a lot of fun, even thought the game is 4-5 years old. Sneak, bash, cast spells, ...you choose the way to progress.....and it never crashes...... The Diablo series kept my attent
The best memories ever are from the Apple IIGS days. Sid's Pirates, SSG's Reach for the Stars, and Electronic Arts' Bard's Tale. These games were so original, and so engrossing, and all done with extremely efficient programming to fit into a 512K disc. By the late 1980's and early 1990's, Civ I & II were out, soon followed by Master of Orion and Masters of Magic. Several hundred hours could be spent on each game of the series. <
Gypsy Davey...I'll try to answer a few questions, but I play very differently than you, so I can't answer everything. The elementium helps you build some VERY strong units later in the game. Just keep it on hand for now. You will find them helpful in making custom units. Lost libraries often show up in pairs, I have no idea why, but I do take advantage of them as soon as I can. I play Elemental on a Gateway PC, but play most of my games on a MacBookPro
...finally able to complete a game with no frozen tactical battles. I like the new information bars, showing who you are at war with, and I like the warning when enemies are on your turf. I miss not knowing when a city has completed a building. Several times, my cities did no construction when I would have liked them to, simply because I did not cycle through my cities every turn in order to find out they were idle. Loading from saves is much faster, and when using t
After six games, none of which went past 80 turns, here are a few observations about v 1.2 First, Janusk has never appeared. I played on the top two levels in v 1.1, but starting out without a compadre (Janusk), in this version, makes the game VERY tough. The AIs seem to be FAR stronger. I had to back down to the hard level, just to survive to turn 50. The bears, archers, and wolves spawn so often, that I cannot keep pace. My best score in v 1.1 was 148, so I
Dragonshrike, Greetings from the ex-pat in Japan. I applaud your continued climb. I know that soon you will be number seven. I may return to GalCIiv I, but not for a while. I tried a few other casual strategy games, then went to GalCiv II. It is the same, yet very different. I have played 4X games for well over 20 years, and much prefer the diplomatic approach. I don't really like to fight. I was in the Navy for ten years, part of it during Vietnam, and was held captive

It just crossed my mind that you might be buying the social improvements, as soon as you have enough money. I did this in my first game or two, before I figured out that I just needed to wait a few turns, and they will be completed without your having to buy them. The same goes for ships. There are times, when you are playing at higher levels, and have more experience, when it makes sense to buy ships and improvements in one turn, spending lots of cash to do so. But not now. J
I just fired up a quick game to refresh my memory. Here is a good way to get the economy going. Choose the Populists, +20 diplo, and +20 morale, for abilities add +30 morale, and +60 diplo. Now your people will be happy and will stand higher taxes, and other will be much more ready to trade and less willing to fight you. Start on simple, small system, tight cluster, and rare for planets. Not many good worlds here, which is fine. You don't want to be bothered with lots of colony ships, and
In the forum search box, type economy. There are about 20 posts there, many with long and detailed replies about good ways to get started, good things to build, and good ways to set your sliders. There are dedicated lists of the order in which people feel it is best to build enhancements and what to research. It took me a long, long time to really get the "feel" of this game, but once I did, I was hooked. It is so rich and so deep. There are SOOO many ways to do things and so many
I have been away from the game for a while. What I 'll offer up is pretty basic. First, play on one of the two easiest levels till you feel comfortable. Do not buy any ships, unless it is a colony ship for quite some time. Your little scout is all you need. Go for soil and habitat improvement, then bank, work towards the ability to trade, and send out two cargo ships as soon as you can. Once you start trading, the cash comes in much better. Search the site here for lots of economic hint
