[quote]Elemental shouldn't be capable of bluescreening the game, and it's certainly not capable of causing your system to take an hour to reboot or continue to experience difficulties. What you're describing is a hardware problem and probably impending failure.[/quote] I admit I know little about hardware, and not much more about software [although I think I know more than the average computer user]. However, I have only had blue-screen crashes since in

Blue-screen crashes have scared the heck out of me. After the last one, it took me well over an hour to reboot, and I'm still experiencing difficulties. So, I'm all for fixing the stability issues, because I can't play with the game in the state it is.
It appears that things have gone from bad to worse--even though nothing has changed, neither with Elemental nor with the configuration of my laptop. However, since I posted the above, the game has refused to run at all on the laptop. The start screen appears. and I get to the main menu, but I can't load a save. I have, as recommended in anther thread, waited several minutes before pressing "Load," but, while this worked on my desktop, it fails to work on the laptop.&nb
Worse news--perhaps. I discovered that updating my graphics driver screwed up many other programs--including Nero. As I do a great deal of video editing on my computer, I need to be able to use Nero. So, I've had to rollback the graphics driver. Of course, since I continued to experience repeated blue-screen crashes even after updating the driver, I haven't lost anything. But, I sincerely hope that Stardock will eliminate whatever problem is caus
The sound-card driver appears to be up to date.
Since I have expereienced repeated blue-screen crashes on my desktop, I am trying to run Elemental on my laptop. The laptop's capabilities are less, but here' the specs: HP Compaq Presario CQ60 Notebook Windows 7 Home Premium [64-bit] Intel Celeron CPU 900 2.2 GHz 2 GB RAM This seems to be sufficient as best as I can tell, and I have fewer crashes--and, so far, no blue-screen crashes. However, the game runs excruci
Updated the graphics card driver and took another chance. Three or four minutes in, another blue-screen crash.
Third blue-screen crash, once again followed by difficulty rebooting. I don't know enough about computers to know whether this may damage mine, so I think I'll have to wait for the next update before I play anymore.
I've read in another post here that, if you wait two or three minutes before pressing "Load," it doesn't freeze. It's worked for me.

That one worked fine for me, altho I've definitely had my share of crashes in other circumstances.
I submitted the files which Elemental creates--altho the second blue screen crash didn't result in one. Are those the files you mean?
I just got the game, and, in addition to frequent ctd's, I've had two blue screen crashes. Anyone esle? After the second one, it took me twenty minutes and numerous tries just to get my computer to reboot. I'm worried about continuing to play.
I agree that, no matter how competent the AI can be made to perform, it's still not as satisfying an opponent as a human being. It's because GalCiv is such a great game that I want to play it versus a human opponent. I understand that focusing on single-player made resources available which allowed the game to become what it is. But, now that it's done, I'd love it if an expansion could be made which would implement multiplayer. One other thing--when people say "multiplayer," it ty
Hey Folks, My life has been rather hectic lately, and I don't often have access to the internet. One of the first things I do when I can is check for updates to GC2, so it's current at the moment. I've been experiencing crashes far too often, sometimes, as in the one below, identified as serious events by my computer. Here's the most recent example: [SmartException] LastEx=GALCIV2.EXE File=C:\Program Files\Stardock\SmartException\GALCIV2.EXE_1147314213.CRA
Like I said aboved, I agree with Stardock's priority of making a great single-player game first. But, I don't understand why people seem to equate multi-player with live play over the internet or a LAN. Sure, GC is not ideal for this type of play. But PBEM is perfect for turn-based games. Within limits, you take your turn at your convenience, spend as much or as little time thinking about it as you desire, then send it off. Okay, it may take a while to finish a game, but who says a game has
Might as well chime in here. I mostly play games solitaire, so I appreciate Stardock's commitment to producing an enjoyable, single-player player game with a solid AI. Poor AI has ruined many games for me. Therefore, I agree with Stardock's priorities regarding GC2. However, I do play some games PBEM--particularly Space Empires IV. Unquestionably, as much as I love SEIV, the AI leaves a lot to be desired, and I might well have tired of it quickly if it weren't for the m
It occurred to me, belatedy, that I should include my system specs: Dell XPS Laptop running WIN XP Home edition, Service Pack 2 3.4 GHz processor 1 GB RAM ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 Anything else you'd like to know, let me know. BTW, at the moment, I can scroll up/down, but not left/right

I had this problem occasionally with GC1, but it seems to be worse with GC2 beta 3: I select a ship, right click on a destination, but the ship heads off to some unknown destination of its own. Right now, I've got a colony ship which simply refuses to head toward the planet I want to colonize. Each turn I left click on the ship, right click on the planet, only to watch it continue to move in the opposite direction. When this happened to me in GC1, I was able to correct it on the turn after i
Just got back from Louisiana--my national guard unit was activated for hurricane relief--and couldn't wait to download beta three, but I haven't had much time to play yet. However, I too have experienced inability to scroll [IIRC, it was also in the earlier versions], but it doesn't seem to be consistent for me, i.e., right now, I can only scroll down, but at other times I might get two or three out of four directions. So far, I've been able to get where I wanted to go by clicking on the mini-
Lucky Jack, I think I tried the "Enter" key, but I don't remember for sure now. At any rate, I'll have to remember this and make sure I try it if it happens again.
Cari, I did everything I could think of, clicking on the "Find" button, your suggestion above, going to the planet management screen, etc. B y the way, I should have mentioned that it wasn't a typical "hang," in that the game remained responsive in a way--I could scroll around the map, click on ships [altho they would not accept new orders], go to planet mangement, etc., but the "Turn" button just wouldn't come back.
Thanks for the info regarding the invasion screen. I wish pressing the spacebar had occurred to me. As for the other time it hung, I didn't know anything got recorded in the debug.err file unless Smart Exception was activiated. I'll send it as soon as I finish this post.
Hi, I've got the latest build and, after starting twice, I've had the game hang twice, requiring me to Ctl-Alt-Del out. Consequently, I didn't get a Smart Exception file, but I still thought you'd like to hear about it. The first hang came after pressing the "Turn" button. It disappeared, as it always does while processing the turn, but it never reappeared. I waited some time, and finally gave up and terminated the game. I've seen this mentione
