I don't understand why anyone would want an unarmed ship to be able to damage one with weapons. I guess I never thought about it much in GC 1, but it seemed to me that pretty much any ship with weapons could take out a construction ship or a colony ship, and, to me, that's the way it ought to be. The idea of some sort of blowback from the deflection of an explosion by the armour isn't very realistic. In the vacuum of space, the force of any explosion would dissipa

Hi Folks, I assume you want the debug.err files generated while we're testing the beta, but I don't know how you'd like us to go about sending them. Do you want us to send them as email attachments, and, if so, to what address. Obviously, my primary reason for purchasing the beta was so that I could get an early look at the game--which, by the way, is quite intriguing so far--but I'd also like to be helpful in the development process, and, since I have n

I had some sor t of problem with GalCiv which I wanted to get resolved quickly, because I was about to deploy to Afghanistan and I wanted to bring a [working] copy of the game with me on my laptop. CariElf responded to my request and enabled me to get the game running before I left, which I greatly appreciated, as I did her comments about my imminent departure. So, I've been a CariElf fan since then. Glad I found this topic!

Found the GalCiv2 site, so my questions are answered. Also downloaded the latest, latest update and the crash on startup is resolved, plus, so far, no in-game crashes either. I like it so far.

Me again. Tried to play after downloading the latest update, and I can't get past the first setup screen. I immediately receive a "buffer overrun" error message. Guess I'll have to wait for the next update.

I only recently discovered MoM, and once I get past the setup and actually start to play the game crashes. But, from what I've seen, I'd really like to play it. So, if Stardock are really interested in doing MoM2, I'd definitely pre-order it. I've been pleased with GC, and GC2 looks even better, so I am confident that Stardock could do a good job. It'd be really nice if it could incorporate multiplayer [pbem or hotseat especially], but, otherwise, I'd be happy with an upgrading of the origin

Hi Folks, I recently downloaded the GC2 beta, and I'm experiencing regular CTDs. I imagine that part of the purpose for the open beta is to get feedback about this sort of thing so I'd like to send the debug.err file to you, but I don't know the procedure. Could you let us know what to do? Thanks

I've promoted GalCiv on the Space Empires IV forum [and elsewhere], so I guess turnabout is fair play. Personally, I love SEIV. It and GalCiv are the only two games I'm playing regularly. Despite both of them being Space 4x games, the approaches are quite different. SEIV has much more detail in ship design, combat, weapons and countermeasures, etc. The diplomatic stuff is less developed than GalCiv, but GalCiv leads the way in that department. A big bonus for SEIV is its multiplay

Sorry about the empty post :-{ I did manage to forget one thing, which I know has been raised by others in the past: it would be nice if the mini map would remain exposed when other things, e.g., the ship list, the planet list, etc, are open.

I'd still like to be able to make starbases stand out more on the mini map, especially since I tend to play on gigantic maps. I know if you zoom in they show up nicely as a "+," but trying while zoomed in to scout a gigantic map for the locations of all your starbases can get tedious. Plus, it would be handy if, on the ship list, starbase listings would indicate: 1) the color of the resource [if any] on which they're parked, and 2) whether a combat ship is co-located with them. Also,

It's not turn based, but, even though I hate real-time games I like SUDG. It runs continuously, but, anytime something happens which requires your attention, it auto-pauses and tells you what's up. So, even tho it's continous-time, there's none of the frenetic, mouse-twitching type action of the typical real-time game. You can still take your time when you have decisions to make.

And colony ships have a variable capacity--don't know what the upper limit is, altho when you go to load one, the default seems to be half the population of the planet from which you are loading. This can be adjusted by the player.

I think it's very good, and, as Patrick noted, quite different from all the other space 4x games. Most everything in the other games is present in SUDG, but the focus is on a MUCH lower level. Personally, I think this difference alone makes it worth it. You get a completely different feel while than you get from the others. Losing one ship in most games is nothing--losing a ship in SUDG is a serious event, 'cause you'll never have more than a handful. So, you get attached to the ones you ha

I like SEIV a lot. I'm not particularly picky about eye-candy, so its less-than-impressive graphics don't bother me--besides, since they're all bmps, you don't have to be a programmer to make your own, which is a lot of fun. And, of course, it has multiplayer capability and it lets you do things like designing ships, which are also pluses, and which you can't do in GalCiv. However, GalCiv does many things that other games don't do, or don't do nearly as well. The diplomatic aspect of

I've been awfully busy, and may have to leave the country in the next few weeks [I'm in the National Guard, and many of our local units have been activated.], so I haven't been able to play much lately. However, I did download 5A [gonna get the new version tomorrow] and start a game, and I experienced a bug which I've noticed in the last few builds, but never remembered to report, nor have I noticed anyone else soing so. Often when I launch a new ship and then right click on its intended desti

This sounds really good! There's little doubt in my mind that the strength of GalCiv lies in the interaction with the AI, which, more than any other game I've played, gives the feeling of being a human. I'm looking forward to seeing how this all develops.
